imc plan to establish sustainable farming in ecuador
DESCRIPTION
We were presented with the challenge of increasing poverty and poor nutrition in Ecuador. In addition to this, Ecuador\’s rural communities are beginning to rely too heavily on imports from other countries as a means of economic security and a source of food. With its current conditions, Ecuador cannot provide these fundamental needs for its rural communities so we came up with a plan to create sustainable farms with the help of Heifer International and ISV (International Student Volunteers).TRANSCRIPT
IMC Social Marketing Plan: Ecuador
Who We’ll Help
Rural communities rely on the land as a source of income
Work in conjunction with community leaders
Families are the core of the community
Women in rural areas take on a majority of the agricultural responsibilities
Why It’s Important
Influence commerce in the community as opposed to relying outside sources
Give women an opportunity to obtain income
Promotes sustainable solutions within the community (long-term results)
Our Plan:•Introduce subsidized farming,
•Create a space for community gardens.
•Introduction of livestock through Heifer International.
So, what are we going to do about it?
Obstacles We’ll Face
•Oil company is tied to success
•Do not currently have all the resources
necessary.
•Farming is inexpensive and sustainable.
•Oil resources will not last forever.
•Going back to traditional way of living.

Step 1: Divide Land Into Zones & Sectors
Step 2: Within zones and sectors, farm components-orchards, the market garden, farm ponds, etc. should be placed in relation to one another to conserve labor and energy.
Step 3: Once a location has been set-up on good soil, crops should be planted accordingly. For Ecuador in particular:
Step 4: Implement and maintain market gardens

Long Term GoalsIt all starts with one community at a time.
Focusing on three main things:
Livestock and material goods
Providing employment
Nutritious goods to sell or trade
With the livestock becoming benefits of milk, wool, draft power, eggs and offspring to pass on to another farmer.
Evaluate progress, then the cycle will repeat as the farm continues to set more goals
With help from Heifer International, every family/farmland must promise to “Passing on the Gift”
= sustainable approach.
In Conclusion
With our country being so reliant on our oil reserves, we believe that our solution will take away the dependency of oil.
Our solution will create a more sustainable direction for Ecuador.
With Ecuador being rich in farmland, we believe that our solution is the best way to eliminate community hunger, poverty and unemployment.
