Color Principles

What is a color principle? 3

1. What is a color principle?

1.1 General

Render principles for photorealistic displays of surfaces are defined in the color principles. Color principles are controlled via the Element Manager.

1.2 Data system

Color principles are in the Element Manager below the node base data.

Following information can be stored in the properties:

Mapping

Function Explanation

Rotation The value defines the angle for projecting the color principle on the surface.

Scale By applying the scale, the color principle can be increased or reduced. With the Standard value = 0 the color principle can be exactly scaled to the size of the part. If a value ≠ 0 is entered, the mapping is calculated as follows: Part dimension : scaling = number of tiles Example: Part width = 1500mm Part height = 1000mm Scale = 500 Width => 1500:500 = 3 (the color principle is projected 3 times in the width) Height => 100:500 = 2 See also the section about preview.

Material

The listed values originate from the selected material and cannot be modified here!

Function Explanation

Material The pulldown list contains all available materials. For every material a *.DWG with the same name can be stored in the <IVIS>\ MATDWG directory. (see picture below)

All materials with a DWG in the <Library>\IVIS\ MATDWG directory are listed.

Intensity Describes the intensity of the material in total. Value = 1 => intensity of 100%

Calculation

Function Explanation

Cost Defines the costs of the color principle per square meter.

Mark up Factor Multiplier for calculating the costs. Value = 1.1 => Surcharge of 10%

Preview So-called Seamless Pattern (seamless tiles) should always be used for the previews. This means that if it is defined by scaling that the color principle from several tiles are put together to one picture, then the seams should not be seen.

2. Where can color principles be stored in imos? Color principles can be stored in the basic data such as materials, surfaces and profiles as well as stretchable purchased parts.

3. Creating a new color principle with gloss

3.1 Create new material and color principle

In the following a new color principle with gloss should be created. An already existing imos material is used as a template for this. First create a new material in the Element Manager. In this example the material PB19_MEL_ZEB is used as the template for this material and saved under the new name PB19_MEL_ZEB_HG (HG for high gloss). Afterwards change to the color principles and create a new principle with the name i_wood_Zebrano_HG on the template of the principle i_wood_Zebrano there.

No MATDWG with high gloss exists in the list of materials (1) yet and therefore the color principle must be saved like this first before a new MATDWG is created.

3.2 Create new MATDWG

3.2.1 General The MATDWG is an empty DWG that only contains a single material. By assigning this MATDWG to the color principle, it is imported in the current order with the next application of this color principle

3.2.2 Procedure The following steps are purely AutoCAD® Functions. Therefore apply AutoCAD® Menu for opening the template drawing and call the function open there.

Open i_ZEBRAN.DWG from the MatDWG directory.

Check if you are in the correct drawing in the AutoCAD® window header!

Page 11: imos colour principles - · PDF fileimos color principles ... Green This parameter is only evaluated within imos CAD and can only be displayed via the Element Manager but not edited

Color Principles

3.2.3 Materials Browser & Editor In the upper part of the Material-Browser the materials of the current drawing are listed. In the lower part is the standard Autodesk-library with previously created materials of AutoCAD®. These materials can be dragged on surfaces in imos per Drag & Drop.

2

Color Principles

Creating a new color principle with gloss 13

For editing a material, just select this on the equivalent display in the upper part by double clicking, in this case it is i_Zebran (2).

Thereby, the Material Editor opens (see left).

The configuration of the Material-Editor changes depending on the selected material. First rename the material. In order to do this, click in the text field and enter the desired name, in this case i_Zebran_HG.

Modifications made in the dialog are automatically saved!

For assigning a new texture to the material, you must click on the text entry below the picture (circled red). Thereby, the desired file can be selected from the <Library>\IVIS directory.

For avoiding overwriting, copy the existing material and save it under a new name (in this case i_Zebran_HG).

If you click the preview for the texture with a double click, then the Texture-Editor opens. The texture settings control different aspects of textures for materials e.g. position, scaling, size and repeat.

The brightness can be modified via the slide control (3).

Color Principles

Creating a new color principle with gloss 16

To modify the glossiness of the material, return to the Material-Editor and make following settings in the sections generic and reflectivity.

Modify the glossiness with the support of the slide control to a value of about 30.

The glossiness defines the surface smoothness which has an effect on the reflectivity as well as the transparency. Take a low possible value for matt surfaces. A perfect reflector is shown with a value of a 100. To visualize the modifications, it is necessary to activate the reflectivity. Set respectively direct and indirect on a value of about. 20.

The amount of light reflected by the material is defined via the reflectivity when the surface of the camera is directly perpendicular opposite. 0 => no reflexion 100 => maximum reflexion

Color Principles

Creating a new color principle with gloss 17

After all adjustments have been made, leave the Material-Editor and the Material-Browser and save the modifications in the order. To do this, select the function save as from the AutoCAD® Menu.

Save the material under a new name in the directory MATDWG. Use the name i_Zebran_HG for this example. Afterwards close the order i_Zebran_HG.

3.3 Assign new material to the color principle

For assigning the new created material to the color principle, open the Element Manager again and change to the level of the color principles. Now assign the new color principle i_wood_Zebrano_HG via the pulldown menu to the new created material i_Zebrano_HG.

After saving all modifications, a new material is finally created and you can leave the Element Manager again to assign the material to imos parts.

Color Principles

Temporarily adjust materials 19

4. Temporarily adjust materials If the settings for the render material do not fit in the order, then temporary modifications can be made for the material.

In order to do this, the Material-Browser must be called in the order via the register display again. The corresponding material must be selected in the Browser above with a double click again to be able to make the equivalent settings on the material in the Material-Editor. After leaving the Material-Browser again, all parts in their display must be refreshed once and later newly rendered.

Color Principles

Automatically creating new materials 20

5. Automatically creating new materials The new setup of materials is supported with the following mechanism in imos: The materials are also listed in the current drawing besides the materials in MatDWG und imos.dwg so that the imos user can select a new created material in the color principle dialog. When saving a color principle, imos checks if the applied material is available in the MatDWG-Folder. If not, then it is either exported from the imos.dwg or the current drawing in the MatDWG-Folder. This ensures that the imos data remain complete when the user applies a new created material in a color principle. Thereby imos supports following commands:

imos Command Explanation

imosConvertToSingleMat Creates Material-DWGs in the directory MatDWG for all materials in the current drawing.

imosCreateMatDwgs

Via this command imos creates Single-DWGs for every material in a DWG. The user can take an available DWG or the current drawing as an input file and it is possible to select an output directory for the Single-DWGs. Additionally, you can define if all or only those materials applied in the color principle have to be created. In doing so, the user can check which materials can be replaced by creating them in a temporary directory and manually copying them in the MatDWG directory.

CreateMatEx Generates single material DWGs for all textures in the IVIS directory

imosCreateImosDwg Generates a IMOS.DWG from single textures

The commands must be entered via the command line.

Color Principles

Automatically creating new materials 21

5.1 Example for imosCreateMatDwgs

Objects have been assigned to AutoCAD® materials per Drag & Drop in an imos order. Thereby, they are listed in the Material-Browser.

But they cannot be selected for the color principle at this stage.

In order to do this, the imos command imosCreateMatDwgs must be entered via the command line. Afterwards the query appears: „Export from current drawing? Yes/No: <Yes>“

Page 22: imos colour principles - · PDF fileimos color principles ... Green This parameter is only evaluated within imos CAD and can only be displayed via the Element Manager but not edited

Color Principles

Automatically creating new materials 22

If <yes> is confirmed, then the folder in which the DWGs should be stored can be chosen. (see left) Afterwards you can define if existing Material-DWGs should be overwritten. And last the query appears: „Create DWGs for materials that are not used in the imos SQL database, too?” Now the corresponding DWGs are created…

… so that color principles can be used as well.
