WHO WE AREWe are a leading local charity
at the heart of South Kilburn.
We support South Kilburn
residents, groups,
organisations and businesses
by providing much-needed
space, opportunities and
support.
WHAT WE DOOur approach is simple. We
listen to the community, and
then either deliver projects
and services that meet
people’s needs, or work with
other local organisations who
are best placed to provide
that support.
Our priorities have focused
on three key areas of
delivery:
Enterprise - supporting
residents to set up and grow
new businesses
Training and Employment -
helping residents to get jobs
Community - helping
residents’ well-being;
providing information and
advice; and running a diverse
range of local events.

IMPACT REPORT 2016-2017
WHY WE DO ITOur vision is to establish a
long-term physical legacy
for the people of South
Kilburn by creating a
Community and
Enterprise Hub which
will provide people with
space, opportunities,
and support.
When I am asked what we do at the South Kilburn Trust, I could say it’s one of
our services – perhaps our employment advice, our business start-up support,
or our work with elderly people. Or I could say it’s our work to turn The Granville
into a Community and Enterprise Hub, providing local community groups and
businesses with long-term space and support. But ultimately what we do is help
people. This is our very first impact report, with details of how we’ve helped
people, and I’m really pleased to share this with you. I hope it gives you a clear sense
of what we do and some of the difference we’ve made. I thank the Trust staff, the
volunteers, local organisations and businesses, and the residents for all joining
together to help make a difference in South Kilburn.

ENTERPRISE
Our Enterprise
programme focuses on
supporting local people
to test their business ideas
and to help them start and
grow their business. We run
South Kilburn Studios which
provides much-needed
space. We run an annual
Enterprise Awards
celebrating local
entrepreneurs. And we
ensure more local people
benefit by encouraging
businesses to ‘give back’ by
sharing their skills and
expertise with the wider
community. Meanwhile, our
string of successful business

campaigns such as Love
Business Month and the
Networking and Pitching
events have gone from
strength to strength and
provided local people with
access to a broad range of
business resources and
support, including access to
our two Enterprise Advisors.
In partnership with Brent
Council, we secured funding
from the Mayor of London
towards the refurbishment
of The Granville Centre. This
will ensure that the Studios
continues as an excellent
community resource when it
moves into its new location.
PEOPLE WERE PROVIDED WITH BUSINESS ADVICE AND COACHING
As an entrepreneur, it’s so valuable to get support and advice from people who know
what they are talking about. The South Kilburn Trust, through their advisors and
programmes, have done exactly that. Their support has played an instrumental part in
steering me in the right direction and growing my business. Without the studio space
they provided I would not have been able to realise the growth and expansion I’ve
had since I started. The £1000 award from the pitching event helped me to fund a
trip to my suppliers and place my first order. As a small start-up it is nothing short of
life-changing to find an organisation like the Trust that gives real, valuable support in
the many ways it has done for me.

At first I was anxious to talk
to someone about my difficulties
finding a job. But since meeting
Verena from the Employment
team, the support I have
received from her has given
me a lot of confidence. My
CV looks much better, I am
getting more replies, I’m getting
interviews and now I’m in a
work placement.
EMPLOYMENT
Our Employment Support
service is focused on
empowering local people
to find work. We help them on
their journey, providing access
to training and work
experience, and providing
opportunities to improve skills,
employability, and confidence.
We have helped people find
jobs in sectors ranging from
accounting to hospitality, and
helped people gain access
to courses such as Digital
Skills, First Aid and improving
spoken English.

With self-belief and the right help,
things can be done! This is what
South Kilburn Trust did for me. At
a time when I was not finding a job,
the Trust helped me to build my
confidence and self-belief. With
their hard work and dedication,
looking at and editing my CV,
searching for jobs and arranging
interviews on my behalf, I found
a job. I always felt that they cared
about me, you see and feel it. I
wouldn’t have been able to do it
without them.

COMMUNITY
Our community-focused
work seeks to make
positive connections
with local people. Residents
told us they’d like more
well-being activities, more
fun events and access to
information and advice. As a
direct response we support
the local Elders’ Lunch Club,
we launched a Dementia
Carers’ Support Group and
installed an Outdoor Gym in
the local park with free
taster sessions. We also run
a weekly walking group and
provide access to
community space. Other
community engagement
activity included our
Summer Festival, which was
a great success, a
bi-monthly What’s on Guide,
and a summer youth
programme.
B A R R Y L E E , 6 0 I’ve been attending the physio sessions given by Maree, organised by the South Kilburn
Walking Group, which has helped me improve both my balance and posture, and
reduced my back strain. I’ve also been walking on Saturdays with this group and because
of this my mental health has improved and my feelings of isolation have reduced. I have
become fond of this group, often having a chat and coffee after our walks. This is so
important to me because I have no family or many people that I can interact with socially.
I feel included and it has inspired me to write more poetry.

With support from
Brent Council and the
Mayor of London we
are creating a new and
enhanced Community and
Enterprise Hub at The
Granville. This enhanced
space, opening in Spring
2018, will be the cornerstone
of the South Kilburn
community. There will be
space for the community to
use for a wide range of
events and activities, act as
an incubator for local
entrepreneurs, and be a base
for community organisations
and local businesses. The
project will initially run for five
years, with our bigger vision
to make the Hub permanent,
as a lasting legacy for
South Kilburn.
The new space will also be
the home of a new café for
people to meet, to socialise
and as a new office for the
South Kilburn Trust. The
Granville Community Kitchen
and Otherwise Club will
continue to provide their
valuable services from there.
We will be working closely
with our immediate
neighbours Barnardo’s
Children’s Centre and
Granville Plus Nursery
School. The Enterprise space
– keeping the name South
Kilburn Studios – will provide
open-plan studios and
workspaces for local
organisations and businesses.
The success of The
Granville will be the main
focus of the South Kilburn
Trust, ensuring this new and
enhanced hub is providing
people with a wide range of
space, opportunities and
support both now and in the
long-term.
We would not be able to work with the community in the way we do without the support of local
residents and organisations who have provided us with much-needed support. This support has
ranged from volunteering, to lending us valuable time and expertise, straight through to
generously granting us vital funding and sponsorship. And finally, a big ‘thank you’ to our staff
team for their unwavering dedication and to everyone for being a part of and supporting us in
South Kilburn. To find out more about our work, our Trustees and staff, and how we are funded
