The four main genres of exhibitions were “Information,” “Environment,” “Healthcare/Welfare,” and “Machine/Metal.” In addition, we also undertook a new initiative this year by hosting the National Food Industry Fair. Companies and organizations from all over Japan sold and gave samples of a wide variety of wonderful products made with local specialties—seasonings, tea, alcoholic beverages, sweets, and more. In addition, we had theme zones again this year in order to shine a spotlight on small and medium-sized enterprises who are rolling out projects that are generating buzz on the business scene. The special program zones had three themes: inter-enterprise collaborations, development of overseas marketing channels, and business succession. In keeping with these themes, leading SMEs in these respective fields exhibited in the three zones. In addition, "Special Business Meeting Sessions" and “Business atching in Tokyo" were organized to offer delegates opportunities to develop new business partners and create new possibilities for their businesses. One of the appealing elements of the International Industry Exhibition is that as well as offering a place for exhibitors to encounter visitors, it also offers abundantopportunities for new encounters with other exhibitors.

Interviews with ExhibitorsQuestionnaire Result of Business ConditionsTOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2018 Implementation Report TOKYO INTERNATIONAL INDUSTRY EXHIBITION 2018 Implementation Report

Q1. Did you have a business negotiation during or after the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition 2018? (Quantity of response : 580)

Q3. [If you had business negotiation] Results of business negotiations during and after the exhibition

Q4. Could you share your opinion on “good point,” “bad point,” and “requests” with respect to this exhibition?

Good Points・ The booths were spacious and the environment allowed SMEs to

advertise what they do.・ We were able to interact with companies from different industries, and

had opportunities not only to talk business, but to discover potential business partners, which was great.

・ It is great that the exhibitors and the content of the exhibition change every year. It doesn’t get boring. I think the exhibition got some boost from the concurrent events.

・ I got to meet more new people and exchange more business cards than I had expected.

・ We exhibited in a theme zone, so we were able to talk to the exact kind of clients we wanted to.

・ Compared to other similar events, this one had more tools for increasing opportunities for business matching available, like the matching meetings, one-minute presentation videos, company presentations, shared catalog stands, and the slogans posted at each booth.

Bad points・ This exhibition was for the manufacturing industry as a whole, and

because our business category is rather specialized even in the industry, there were not many visitors from companies that clicked with us.

・ We exchanged business cards with many people, but few led to business meetings. I’m afraid our products did not match with customer needs.

Requests・ We don’t just want to exhibit products. We want making simple sales

transactions to be allowed at the event. There were some people who wanted to buy our products.

・ It might be better if we had more booth space.・ It would be easier to attract visitors if commercial and industrial

associations, chambers of commerce, and industrial associations were placed in the same corner.

After the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition2018, we visited and interviewed officials of three exhibitors, asking them about such matters as benefits of participation in Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, results of their participation, effective use of the event and messages to other exhibitors.

Our company developed heated fabric five years ago, and we have been using it to develop products in a variety of fields, including clothing, outdoor gear, and mats for use in health care. This was our fifth time exhibiting at the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, and we exhibited our new product, a vest made with our heated fabric, in order to get some feedback on it. You don't know what people will think about your products unless you actually exhibit them. When we first started exhibiting our products, some visitors expressed negative opinions. But we continued to make improvements based on their opinions, which led to the development of new products. In addition, unlike other exhibitions and fairs, companies exhibiting at the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition are mostly based in or around Tokyo. That's great for us, because we can cooperate easily with other exhibitors if something comes up. There are many opportunities to interact with exhibitors and visitors as business partners.

- Message to other exhibitors -If you exhibit your products in major shows such as the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, you will find a lot of opportunities for you to develop your sales network. If you exhibit your products again the next year, you can improve on the points you got negative feedback on the previous year, and you may receive very positive comments. This will be great encouragement for your developers. Although you must be prepared to accept negative opinions as well as positive ones, I strongly recommend that you exhibit year after year.

Masahide Matsumoto, Technological Development CTO, Sanki Consys Co., Ltd.

Space246 is a group of multiple companies that specialize in a variety of fields, such as design and development, parts processing, wiring processing, assembly, inspections, and repairs. We are professional manufacturers. Our member companies undertake each process and work together to provide products as a one-stop service. This enables us to flexibly meet customer requirements that other companies cannot, and we are playing on this strength. This is our fifth time exhibiting at the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition. Unlike other exhibitors, five companies in our group shared one booth. We wanted to showcase the fact that we develop and provide products as a one-stop service, so rather than having each company display their own specialty technology or products, we displayed ultra-fine bubble technology, which we developed as a joint project. As a result, we were able to exchange business cards and have business meetings with more businesses than ever. We had some more meetings with one of those businesses, and successfully turned the discussions into a project that may lead to mass production in the future.

- Message to other exhibitors -This joint exhibition enabled us to explain each of our specialty fields and show clients that we can combine our strengths to achieve things that cannot be done by a single company. Thanks to this, we were able to have successful business meetings. It is indeed very important to prioritize your main clients, but in order to grow in the future, it is also important to keep acquiring new ones. The exhibition fee for the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition is reasonable. Why not expand your business opportunities by doing a joint exhibition with your group companies or partner companies?

Our company develops products such as door plates, name plates, and original relief sculptures using our unique engraving technique. We especially excel at developing sign plates made of luminous materials and engraved grooves. We are a regular exhibitor at the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition, and we think the exhibition is a valuable opportunity to hear various opinions from buyers, end-users, researchers, and other visitors, gather information on trends in the industry, and find new customers. We used the organizer’s matching program, through which we got to hear responses and feedback on points that we ourselves had not noticed. We were able to rediscover the appeal of our products through a business meeting with a fishery-related consulting agency who saw our one-minute presentation video and became interested in us. In addition, we had a business meeting with a house renovation company in the special business meeting sessions, and found a new business opportunity for our products.

- Message to other exhibitors -The organizers have made a matching program and many types of support available. You can acquire new customers by making use of these helpful programs and encountering more opportunities to get in touch with other companies, such as business meetings. Not only that, you get to hear opinions of visitors and companies in the same business field as you at the Tokyo International Industry Exhibition. I recommend you that you use the exhibition as an opportunity to gather information and do marketing research, as well.

Questionnaire Result by Visitors

A questionnaire was conducted on visitors in the course of the exhibition. The visitors consisted of business operators in various sectors, including mainly manufacturing, but also the public sector, service sector, buyers (trading company/wholesale), and the information and communication sector, to just name a few. Approx. 50% of the companies had less than 100 employees, reflecting the strong need for this exhibition among small- and medium-sized enterprises. Also, nearly half of the visitors hold positions with decision-making authority such as "manager/director" and "executive", which shows the high level of expectation people have for this exhibition. The majority of the visitors came to the exhibition for the purpose of "collecting information on technology and products". Approx. 90 % of the visitors responded to the questionnaire that they had accomplished their objective, which demonstrates that the exhibition was highly successful and satisfactory.

Q11. What i s your overa l l sa t i s fac t ion w i th the TokyoInternational Industry Exhibition 2018?

Good points・ The exhibition was compact and divided by theme and field, and had a variety

of events such as special exhibitions. I felt it was easy to look around.・ The stage events were good.・ I got to experience and learn many things.・ There were not only industrial products but also food and local specialty

products. They were all fun. I thought it was great.・ It was great to have consulting booths that offer business support, such as

help with establishing a company, business succession, and securing human resources.

・ I could feel the strength of SMEs.・ I learned how project management is done in other industries.

Requests・ It would be better to narrow down the exhibition’s themes, and divide it into

multiple different exhibitions.・The exhibition could be shorter.・It is better to have more displays of machines.
