COMPANY PROFILE

Indian oil was formed as joint venture between Oil Company and government of India.

but later become fully owned government under taking it continues to be canalizing agency for crude oil and major petroleum products on behalf of oil industry in India.

The Company was incorporated on 30th June, 1959 under the name and style Of the Indian Oil Company, Ltd.

With a view to coordinating the activities of the Indian Refineries, Ltd., and Indian Oil Company, Ltd., the two were merged on 1st September, 1964, to form a new Corporation, the Indian Oil Corporation Ltd.

1) CONTRACTOR: a person who undertakes to produce a given result for the establishment.

2) CONTRACT LABOUR(s): are Persons, who are hired, supervised and remunerated by contractor.

3) CATEGORY OF LABOUR:  Un skilled

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY

1. The research study is based on the primary data collected from various labours working in Barauni Refinery under different contractors.

2. Secondary data was collected through visiting various web sites, yearly published HR manual books and Factory act book by S.P Jain.

3. Some part of the research study is based on theory (like overview of contract labour laws) was collected from official website and Admin Dept.

4. I designed a structured questionnaire to collect primary data from the field.

OBJECTIVE OF THE STUDY

1. The main objective of the study is to go in details and analyze the implementation of labour laws in IOCL Barauni Refinery.

2. To find out whether labours are aware of all acts or not .i.e. minimum wages act.

3. To find out the level of satisfaction among workers with respect to each contract labour act.

4. To find out whether the contract labours do need any change in provided facilities.

DATA ANALYSIS AND FINDING1. How would you rate the awareness of all acts among Contract labours in Barauni

Refinery?

Conclusion:Since 30% of workers are very satisfied about awareness of labour laws and majority of

workers are satisfied with this topic. Hence it can be concluded that there is good state of Implementation process of Contract Labour Laws at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Barauni; that results Contract labours have a good state of awareness about Contract Labour Laws.

Conclusion:

Here 70% of workers have replied that they are satisfied with the implementation procedure of IOCL, Barauni, whereas 24% of them are very satisfied, Since majority of workers are satisfied with implementation of contract labour laws at Barauni Refinery. Hence we can conclude that IOCL, Barauni provides good job satisfaction.

3. How would you rate the Working Environment at Barauni Refinery?

Conclusion:The working environment at Barauni Refinery is very good as 8% replied very satisfactory and 80% replied satisfactory Since majority of workers are satisfied with working condition at Barauni Refinery. Hence we can conclude that the working condition at Indian Oil Corporation Limited, Barauni is good.

4. What is your satisfaction with Management Policies and Code of Conduct of IOCL, Barauni?

Conclusion:Since majority of workers (60%) are satisfied with the management policies and code of conduct at IOCL, Barauni. Hence it can be concluded that the management policy and code of conduct at Barauni Refinery is good & Prosperous.

5. Have your payment been paid in the presence of authorized representative of Principle employer/ EIC?

Conclusion:Since majority of workers (80%) replied that they get their payment in the presence of authorized representative of principle employer/ Engineer in Charge (EIC).Hence we can say that there is proper implementation of The Contract Labour Act, 1970 in Barauni Refinery.

Conclusion:About 86% of workers accepted that they have their wage slip/Book on which minimum salary of workers are mentioned, Since majority of workers are accepted Hence it can be concluded that there is thorough implementation of Minimum Wages Act, 1948 in Barauni Refinery

Conclusion:About 76% of workers thought that deduction in their wages for PF & ESI are constructive for them. Since majority of workers thought that deduction in their wages for PF & ESI are constructive for them. Hence it can be concluded that there is thorough implementation of The Employee’s Provident Fund Act, 1952/ Employee’s State Insurance Corporation Act, 1948in Barauni Refinery

8. Do you satisfied from Bonus payment morals of Barauni refinery?

Conclusion:About 98% of workers are satisfied with Bonus payment morals of Barauni refinery. In laws Bonus has to be paid on yearly basis but in IOCL bonus given in monthly basis to contract labour. That why a majority of workers are satisfied with Bonus payment morals of Barauni refinery. Hence it can be concluded that there is thorough implementation of The Payment of Bonus Act, 1965in Barauni Refinery.

9. Do you satisfied from welfare facilities provided at Barauni refinery are sufficient?

Conclusion:About 56% of workers reacted “Yes” at Welfare facilities provided at Barauni Refinery which is an increase from last survey percentile (45%), Since Majority of workers are in the favor of welfare facilities provided at Barauni Refinery. Hence we can say that there is proper implementation of Factory Act,1948.

Conclusion:Almost all workers reacted that Industrial relation have positive impact on their quality of life. Hence it can be concluded that there is good state of Industrial relation at Barauni Refinery.

11. Have you ever thought of leaving your job?

Conclusion:About 70 % replied that they had never thought of leaving IOC Ltd., Barauni. Since majority of workers have never thought of leaving IOC Ltd., Barauni. Hence it can be concluded that workers are satisfied with their job at IOC Ltd., Barauni & Barauni Refinery provides good job satisfaction.

12. Do u think working in IOCL improve your Personal growth?

Conclusion:About 52% of workers are satisfied with their Personal growth after joining Barauni Refinery. Since majority of workers are satisfied with their personal growth after joining Barauni Refinery. Hence it can be concluded that there is a good scope of personal growth at Barauni Refinery

LIMITATIONS

Since workers were not well educated so the questionnaire was personally administrated to them and which was time consuming.

Due to time constraint and busy schedule workers could not be located easily.

Some respondents are resistant to fill the questionnaire.

CONCLUSION

Barauni refinery insures that the labour laws are following in better and spirit to the maximum possible extent.

  Working conditions in the Barauni refinery for contract workers are quite

good because they get a clean and better environment to work in.

Welfare facilities like canteen, rest rooms, first aid, etc. are available to all the contract workers working in Barauni refinery.

The implementation and compliance of labour laws is ensured by the coordinated efforts of CONTRACTOR, EIC’S, PE’S, and HR DEPT.

SUGGESTION

IOCL should have to improve worker’s knowledge concerned to labour laws.

Labours are not highly skilled that’s why Barauni Refinery must have to give more priority to labours training & their personal growth.

All the work regarding labour laws must be computerize and linked with each other.

Reduce paper work because it will help in time saving.
