WHAT IS A SPORT?

Sport is defined as an activity involving physical exertion and skill in which an individual or team competes against another or others for entertainment.

TYPES OF SPORTSThe major types of sports are:- 1.Outdoor Sports. 2. Indoor Sports.

3. Physical Development Sports.

4. Mental Development Sports.

Physical activity stimulates growth and leads to improved physical and emotional

health. Today, research shows that the importance of physical activity in children

is stronger than ever. For example, medical researchers have observed that

highly active people are less likely to suffer from high blood pressure, diabetes, cancer of the colon, obesity, and coronary

heart disease later in life.

WHY ARE SPORTS IMPORTANT?

Playing sports can make you stronger and healthier, contributing to lower obesity rates, according to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.

development both psychologically and socially.

Sports are an important part of the lives of most children in the United States. Just over 21 million youth between the ages of 6 to 17

play team sports on a regular basis, with another 5 million engaging on an occasional

basis, according to the Sports & Fitness Industry Association annual survey of

households. Kids are most active before the teenage years, though participation is

declining. Children ages 6 to 12 who played sports regularly fell from 44.5 percent of that

population in 2008 to 40 percent in 2013.

BENEFITS IN ADULTS AND OLD AGE PEOPLE

•Many adults aged 65 and over spend on average 10 hours or more each day sitting or lying down, making them the most sedentary age group.•They're paying a high price for their inactivity, with higher rates of falls, obesity, heart disease and early death compared with the general population.

•As you get older, it becomes even more important to you remain active if you want to stay healthy and maintain your independence.

•If you don't stay active, all the things you’ve always enjoyed doing and taken for granted may start to become that little bit harder.
