1. Do NOT overtighten any of the Adjustment Knobs. The locking screws in the tripod are all metal on metal. Nonetheless, if you overtighten any of them, you risk stripping out the screw threads or cracking the plastic around the metal.

2. Open and Close Leg Spread Slowly and Evenly. To spread the legs of the tripod, you can do this by pulling outward on two of the legs. This will cause the center column collar to move down the center column. In order for the legs to open properly, the collar must move down slowly and evenly. For the final 1-2 inches of opening, it is best to push down directly on the collar and not continue to pull on the legs. Similarlon the legs. Similarly, when closing the leg spread, it is best for the first 1-2 inches to pull up on the collar. Once the collar has moved up the center column 1-2 inches you can then push in gently on two of the tripod legs to fully close the leg spread.

3. Open Leg Locks and Extend Legs Slowly. Gently open and close the leg locks. Do not force them. Then, pull the legs out slowly, one section at a time to extend them. If you pull out a leg section aggressively all the way to the end, it can snap the connecting pieces at the end of the leg section and cause one leg section to separate completely from the leg section above it.AdditionallAdditionally, when the legs are fully extended, sometimes in the final 1-2 inches of extension, the leg sections can “kink” slightly. If this happens, make sure the leg is straight again before closing. Never force a leg section to close if it is not closing smoothly.

4. Pan and tilt. When you are panning or tilting, make sure the pan lock knob or tilt lock handle is loose. These tripods have the ability to lock their position. These tripods have the ability to lock their position. The pan knob and tilt handle are not resistance adjustments. That is, they lock the tripod head in place only. If you are going to pan or tilt, the knob and handle need to be fully loose. If they are not, you can scratch the inner collar and cause rough movement in the future.

This tripod is made of thin aluminum for the legs and most of the rest of the tripod is plastic. This gives it a light weight design and a low cost, but it also makes it more fragile. Used properly, this tripod can give you a long life of use. Ravelli also sells a professional line of tripods which are significantly more robust, but also heavier and more expensive.tripods which are significantly more robust, but also heavier and more expensive.
