Dear Walnut Hills Families,

Can you believe it is already the end of September? I adore fall and all it

brings. I love the enthusiasm and excitement around learning! Thank you

all again for your support to ensure all students are on-time to school and

ready to learn. It has been a fantastic start to the school year.

We have three exciting upcoming events at Walnut Hills. I hope to see you

all!

On Friday, October 4th, is Multicultural Night and LAUNCH Night.

Kindergarten through fifth grade students will be launching their cultural

identity projects from 6-6:30pm in their classrooms. After LAUNCH, we will

have different booths that will have authentic food, traditions, apparall,

artifacts, information, and dress which represent many different cultures at

Walnut Hills. We are adding an all school art project in the innovation

space and games as well as songs and dance in the cafeteria. Can’t wait

to see you all there.

On Friday, October 11th, we will have our first RISE assembly. This is a

special assembly to recognize Respect, Intergrity, Safety, and Excellence

(RISE) behaviors of our students. Teachers will be contatcing parents of

children who have been nominated for a RISE award and inviting these

families to the assembly. Remember, not all children will recognized at this

first assembly. However, we have two more RISE assemblies to ensure all

children are recognized for RISE positive behaviors. The theme for the

first assembly is a “GLOW & GROW.”

AND on October 24 from 3:00pm-4:00pm we are celebrating our 50th

Birthday! Please join us for the celebration. I look forward to seeing you all

at this very special occasion.

Recently many of your children received their CMAS (Colorado

Measurements of Academic Success assessment scores in the areas

English Language Arts, Math, and Science. CMAS is the state summative

assessment that measured reading, writing, math, and science based on

the Colorado Academic Standards. Third through fifth grade students took

the CMAS assessments in ELA and Math. Fifth grade students took the

Science CMAS assessment. Assessments were taken in April of last year.

Please find the 2019-2020 Walnut Hills’ Status results listed below. The

number in each column represents the percentage of students per grade

level that met and/or exceeded in the areas of English language arts and

math. The number in parenthesis represents the percentage point increase

or decrease compared to the 2018/2019 PARCC results for each grade level

and content area.

As there are celebrations, there is still more work to do. We will work to

efficiently and effectively demonstrate incremental growth across content

areas every year. We are committed to moving forward and upward every

year, by providing your children with high caliber instruction, which will lead

each student down a path of success.

On behalf of the entire Walnut Hills’ staff, we are truly looking forward to a

rewarding and successful school year. I know that we will accomplish a great

deal and I appreciate in advance everything you do as parents to support our

schools and our children as we work together to achieve excellence for all.

The increased enrollment, the increased academic growth and achievement,

and the evolution of Innovation at Walnut Hills is amazing! Thank you all for

being a part of hard work and dedication to ensure EVERY CHILD, EVERY

DAY succeeds.
