This is an instructional guide for importing a DCS 2.0 file into Adobe® Illustrator® software.

Go to the FILE MENU > NEW.

Go to the FILE MENU > PLACE.

Do not open the file in Illustrator; it must be PLACED.

Opening the file will result in an error message, asking you to Place the EPS file properly using linking.

In the Place Dialog Box, find the EPS file you want to bring in.

Be sure that the Linked option is seleced in the Place Window.

If this feature is not selected, it will result in an error message, asking you to place the EPS file properly using linking.

Please note that the imported image will be a low-res image and will look pixelated.

In Illustrator, open your Swatch Palette under the WINDOW MENU > SWATCHES.

You are now free to add any vector elements or spot colors to the graphic before output.

From the top right drop-down menu, be sure to have Large List View checked.

From that same menu, choose Select All Unused.

Then, place the unused swatches in the trash by selecting the trash button.

You should be left with Registration Color, Black (CMYK), and all the spot colors from your DCS 2.0 file.

If you are left with a few CMYK colors from the list, you may delete those as well.
