Stating the Obvious
• Around the world utility and electricity network operators are legally
required to design, build, operate and maintain their electrical systems in
a manner that reduces the risk of injury or death to people whether they
are at work or members of the general public. Generally the legislation
also imposes a duty on employees, including contractors, to work in a
safe manner.
• They are also generally required to manage their electrical assets using
recognised good practice techniques to ensure:
1. Good supply quality;
2. Continuity of supply.
3. Safety;
4. Effective use of capital and repair and maintenance costs;
The consequences of failure can be catastrophic
