1 / Type your key words in English only!
2 / Choose the appropriate « mode » for your search:
# 1 – Search EngineEnglish Only!
“Overview” Search: If you are looking for a scientific concept, simply type the key words related to your topic
“Directory” Search: If you are looking for an expert in particular or an organization, simply type their name into the search bar.
When you want to look for scientific works containing more than one key word, use the operator AND Example : polymer AND materialYou results will contain both key words
Photomobile polymer materials: photoresponsive behavior of cross-linked liquid-crystalline polymers with mesomorphic diarylethenes.
When you want to exclude a key word from your search, Use the operator NOT Example : polymer NOT materialThe results will show all scientific works containing the word polymer, except those all containing the word material.
Top tip: Look at the Tag Cloud of Key Concepts on the results page to identify unwanted key words and remove them from the search.
=> Take out the key words that are linked to your topic but not of interest to you.Ex: biomarker NOT cancer

Use Synonyms:When looking for a general research concept, try using synonyms for the key words to increase the volume of results:
Searching for an expression:When searching for an exact expression, use quotation marks “ ” Example: “photonic crystal”The solution will look for the two words photonic et crystal together in the text
If you search for a key phrase without quotation marks you will obtain results containing ANY one of the individual words but not necessarily all or together.
Top tip: Try to decompose the key phrase and use the operator AND to increase the potential volume of results…Example: “Photonic crystal fibre” => (“Photonic crystal” AND fibre)
Eg. “watertight seal”=> (watertight OR waterproof OR "water-tight" OR impermeable OR nonporous OR "leak-proof" OR impervious OR "liquid-proof") AND (film OR seal)
Eg. “oil production”=> "oil production" OR "hydrocarbon production" OR "hydrocarbon exploration" OR "petroleum production" OR "natural gas production" OR "oil exploration" OR "petroleum exploration" OR "natural gas exploration" OR "hydrocarbon exploitation" OR "oil exploitation" OR "petroleum exploitation" OR "natural gas exploitation "
Eg. “Biobased polyurethane”=> polyurethane AND (biobased OR "bio based" OR biosource OR "bio source" OR vegetale OR renewable)

# 2 - Golden Rules
Use parentheses for complex searches in order to combine several operators.Example : (watertight OR waterproof OR impermeable OR "leak-proof") AND (film OR seal)
& It is possible to combine the operators AND and ORExample :
You results will contain a combination of 2 mots (one from each group in parenthesis) = power and inverter, or power and converter, or power and rectifier, or current and inverter, or current and converter … etc.
NOTE There could be various different spellings for your key word. Search all possibilities using OR to avoid losing potential results:Example : microdissection OR "micro dissection"
It is possible to use all avaliable operators in one request:Example : polyurethane AND (biobased OR "biosource" OR vegetable OR renewable) NOT "castor oil "
• You can also use key phrases with “ ” however you CANNOT put operators in “ ” Example : “Photonic crystal fibre” OR “Photonic crystal fiber” / “Photonic crystal” AND (fibre OR fiber)
NOT “Photonic crystal fibre OR fiber”
• Avoid using acronyms in your searches!The same acronym may have several different meaning and therefore could present mixed results
You could also take out the unwanted meaning of your acronym with the operator NOTExample : (CVD OR "chemical vapor deposition" ) NOT "cardiovascular disease"
If your key phrase has an acronym, search for the full phrase and the acronym by using the operator OR.Example : ("3d printing" OR "3DP" OR "3 dimensional printing" OR "three-dimensional printing")
