Key words: Speaking ability, creative story game
Speaking is reputed to be the most important in learning a second or
foreign language. To improve speaking ability, teacher needs to use a media or
technique in teaching English. Creative story game is a kind of game that can be
used to develop speaking ability while learning English. Creative story game can
increase the students imagination and creativity to speak English through a story
that they produced by themselves.
The objectives of this research are; (i) to find out the implementation of
creative story game in teaching speaking of the second semester in Muria Kudus
University in academic year 2013/2014. (ii) to find out whether creative story
game can improve the speaking ability of the second semester students of Muria
Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014.
The research is done at the second semester students of Muria Kudus
University in academic year 2013/2014. The classroom action research is used to
design this research and followed by two cycles. Each cycle is conducted through
four steps; they are: planning, action, observation and reflection. In this research,
the researcher chooses Intermediate Speaking C2 that consists of 21 students to
conduct the research.
The result of this research are; (i) in implementation creative story game,
the students look enthusiastic and get fun in playing the creative story game
because they can speak freely, they can deliver their own idea in their own story.
(ii) The students’ speaking score improves from cycle I until cycle II. In cycle I,
the average score is 52.94 and in cycle II improves become 77.11.
Based on the result of the research above, the conclusion is creative story
game can improve the speaking ability of Intermediate Speaking C2 students of
Muria Kudus University in academic year 2013/2014, and the researcher suggests
that the teacher should use interesting technique in teaching speaking. The teacher
is suggested to use creative story game as a technique to improve students
speaking ability since it offers more advantages in improving students’ speaking
ability.

Berbicara dianggap sebagai hal terpenting dalam proses pembelajaran.
Untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara, guru harus menggunakan media atau
tekhnik pengajaran. Creative story game adalah permainan yang dapat digunakan
untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara. Creative story game dapat
meningkatkan imajinasi siswa dan kreativitas mereka untuk berbicara melalui
sebuah cerita yang dapat mereka ciptakan sendiri.
Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah (i) untuk mengetahui implementasi dari
creative story game dalam pengajaran speaking pada murid semester II
Universitas Muria Kudus menggunakan creative story game pada tahun ajaran
2013/2014. (ii) untuk mengetahui apakah creative story game dapat meningkatkan
kemampuan berbicara pada murid semester II Universitas Muria Kudus tahun
ajaran 2013/2014.
Penelitian ini dilakukan murid semester II Universitas Muria Kudus tahun
ajaran 2013/2014. Desain yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah Penelitian
Tindakan Kelas yang diikuti dengan dua siklus. Setiap siklus terdiri dari empat
tahapan, yaitu perencanaan, pelaksanaan, pengamatan dan refleksi. Dalam
penelitian ini, peneliti memilih kelas Intermediate Speaking C2 yang terdiri dari
21 murid untuk diteliti.
Hasil dari penelitian ini adalah: (i) dalam penerapan creative story game,
siswa terlihat lebih antusias dan senang dalam memainkan creative story game
karena mereka dapat berbicara dengan bebas, siswa dapat menyampaikan ide
mereka sendiri melalui cerita mereka. (ii) nilai speaking para murid meningkat
dari siklus I sampai siklus II. Pada siklus I, nilai rata-rata murid adalah 55.79 dan
pada siklus II meningkat menjadi 79.56.
Berdasarkan hasil diatas, dapat disimpulkan bahwa creative story game
dapat meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa Intermediate Speaking C2
Universitas Muria Kudus tahun ajaran 2013/2014, dan peneliti menyarankan
bahwa guru seharusnya menggunakan tekhnik yang menarik dalam mengajar
speaking. Guru disarankan menggunakan creative story game untuk
meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara siswa karena memiliki banyak manfaat
dalam peningkatan kemampuan berbicara siswa.
