ProposalIn This Unit of coursework, I have been told to produce a Film or a Fashion Magazine, which will be aimed for specific audience, which would also be
sold in shops. I am going to be creating a Film Magazine, as I got to choose between film or fashion magazine. My magazine is going to be aimed at
male and female aged 15-25. My Film Magazine is aimed at this audience, as the film I will be promoting is going to be an action movie. I chose this
genre as I watch action movies myself and thought this genre would be interesting and different from everyone else.
The target audience for my magazine, is mainly any gender aged 13-25. As girls and boys are interested in current popular movies (Action, Horror,
Romantic, Comedy). They would be the perfect target audience, as they are up to date with films, and sometimes on regular basis they watch movies.
This age range is the perfect target audience, the most popular activity they do when they are out with friends is to watch a movie, also they socialise on
popular social websites (twitter/facebook) they can immediately find out the latest movie and whether or not its worth watching it.
My magazine will feature a specific genre which is action. The social class for my target audience is social category ABC1 . My readers are in the category
conformists and mainstreamers in the psychographics theory.
I will be researching different magazinesthat are quiet similar to mine. Ive researched many magazines, including Total Film, Empire and Premiere.
These magazines are film based, which some certain features will help me with my own creation of a film magazine. I need to consider about the colour,
titles, price and how the selllines will attract my target audience to read the magazine.
My Magazine will have one main images featured on the front page, which will feature one of my film I thought will be the main sell line. The Masthead
will be on the top, in big bold font, so it can get the audiences attention, with a variety ofselllines on each side of the front cover. My magazine will be a
monthly magazine as other film magazines are issued monthly. The Price of my magazine, will not be too high, and not too low, it will be an average
price.
The target audience I have chosen for my magazine is male and female aged , who are interested in action movie, full of explosions and violent scenes.
Male and female aged 15-25. As both of the gender are interested in popular movies. This is the perfect target audience. On regular basis, they watch
upcoming movies, which means they will visit the cinemas regularly and buy DVDs. Ive chosen this age range, as my target audience as the statistics
show that teenagers and people in their early 20s are the people that mostly go to cinemas.
The social class for my target audience will be aimed at mainly at class ABC1. The target audience will mainly be students or employed. My magazine
wont have too much text for the reader to read which means that the reader will read and understand the issue of the magazin e, as few readers can get
put off with a lot of language in one page.
My Magazine is aimed at audience that into the mainstreamers/ conformists psychographic category because it will feature interviews and reviews ofrecent and popular movie that people will enjoy reading.
My target audience will read my magazine for information on about different action movies and the latest news in the film industry. They would also read
it for ecapism, while reading the magazine they will gain a personal identity and personal relationships between different readers and the makers of the
magazine. They will build a relationship through their common interest.
My magazine will have to appeal to the target audience due to the genre of the magazines. The idea of having a different genre to everyone else is good,
as my work will be unique and individual. I thought of doing a Film Magazine as I'm into films and not fashion, but fashion magazine was another choice I
couldve done for my magazine. The idea of having different genres of movies featuring in my magazine is good as it will appeal not only my target
audience but other audiences who maybe be interested in what is that certain type of movie or would be interested into finding out more.
With not only movies articles and reviews in the magazine, but lists of top movies are also recommended for the target audience, so they dont miss out
on watching the movies which are a trending blockbuster hit.

KEY CONCEPTS RESEARCHCodes and ConventionsFilm magazines are mainly a monthly issues, mainly dedicated to one specific genre or maybe targeted at certain target audience. With each issue with
having special features of one specific movie which was recently released in cinemas or is going to be release. In each mont hly issue, there will every
features that will build to make an magazine. The Conventions for a magazine are; Masthead (the main title of the magazine), sell lines which would
make the reader want to know what the magazine has in store for the reader, the price and date the date will be monthly (mainly the month, as its a
monthly issue) and the price for how the magazine will be. The Barcode, A Main Image which will draw the attention of the reader, by them looking at
who is on the front cover. The main image will be part of the exclusive or special feature of each issue. There will also be interviews and articles on
different topics and interviews of celebrities. The front cover is the main part of a magazine, as it draws the target audiences attentions, and this makes
them buy the magazine and read what in the magazine, due to the sell lines being eye catchy. Film Magazine usually has an image from the film that is
featured in the magazine. The image is mainly big and stands out of the page, its often a well known actor/actress. The contents page is where the
reader can find out what is featured in the magazine, as well as articles. The adverts which are in the magazine are mostly related to the genre of what the
magazine is. If its a film magazine, then there will be advertisements on films which have been recently released on DVD/Bluray/Triple Play.
Audience
Many people read magazine mainly in their free time. There are different magazine aimed at different audiences. Some are aimed at only one gender,
whereas some magazines are aimed at both genders. Film Magazines are mostly read by male audience, only few females would read film magazines,
however due to the genre of the magazine or what type of film is featured in the magazine, effects on which gender reads the most. For example, If it was
a action movie about superhero(e.g X-Men) on the front cover then male audience would read it, as there eye must have seen the front cover and mayhave decided to read it, whereas if there was a well known actor or romantic movie on the front cover with girly colours th en female audience would be
drawn attention to the magazine due to the movie featured inside it or the people who are mentioned in the magazine. Men would read film, music, sport
and fitness magazine, on the other hand women would read gossip, fitness and fashion magazine and younger audiences, such as teenage and younger
girls would be interested in reading in latest gossip about pop music and TV shows, and teenage and younger boys would be i nterested in comic, cartoon,
car magazines. People read magazines to get advice and tips, or to just find out information in what is happening around the world in the music, fashion,
and film industry. The readers read it for entertainment like music, radio and TV shows.
Representation
Each magazine represents itself, using its Style, Colour Scheme and Images etc. This is mainly called the mode of address. Each magazines
mode of address varies according to the target audience. Magazines are often aimed at male or women readers. The representation of thegender is the key thing when selling magazines. There are a variety of different magazines aimed at different gender at different ages. There
are Film, Fashion, Music, Comic, etc types of magazine. Film Magazines are mainly aimed at both genders, but mostly aimed at people who are
really into films, and want to read articles and reviews of a specific film. A Fashion magazine is generally aimed at young women and teenage
girls. The front cover is mainly girly and bright, to attract the teenage girls due to the colour scheme. You are expected to see models
stereotypical tall, skinny, perfect hair and make up. Female readers buy fashion magazine to get tips on what to wear when going out etc

The Masthead
The Masthead is a main title of the
magazine in this magazine the
masthead is Total Film. Its in a big
simple white font, which immediatelygets the audiences attention.
The Main Sell Line
The Main Sell Line, is the main title of
the issue, it is usually bigger and
brighter than masthead of the issue. In
this magazine, the main sell line is The
Hunger Games which is not bigger than
the masthead, but is the same colour,
so it stands out from everything and
from the background. White connotatesPureness, Innocent, and Truth. The film
itself has honesty, and innocence,
which is maybe why they have the main
sell line in white.
Other Images
There are many other images in this
issue, which means the front cover is
not fully dedicated to the film The
Hunger Games. The plugs have images
from other movie, like The Avengers
& The Dark Knight Rises and
Prometheus. They are written
underneath the image so that the
reader can be informed what movie it
is. There are other images, which tells
us that in the issue, there information
about other movies and gossip in themovie industry. The background is a
image of a fire, which connotates
danger, action. It also builds a tensed
atmosphere.
Sell Lines
Sells Line are the extra writing on the
front cover of a magazine, they
usually tell the reader whats inside
the magazine they can read, instead
of the main sell line. The sells lines
are frequently in capital letters, so it
can grab the reader attention. In this
magazine the sell lines arecompletely different to the main sell
line The Hunger Games. The Sell
lines have a red banner with
something written on it for example
EXCLUSIVE! Or THE WHOLE STORY!
this shows that the sell lines are very
important as well as the main sell
line.
Barcodes
Barcodes are mostly placed in the
front of the magazine or the back. In
this magazine, the barcode is on the
front. Barcodes are shown in every
issue so the reader can purchase it.
Date/Issue/PriceOn Magazines the price, issue number and
the date are on the front cover of the
magazine, near the barcode, or underneath
the masthead. In this magazine the issue
and date is written underneath the
masthead, it's small but its in a place where
it can be visible for the reader to see. The
Price is not written on the magazine, as the
magazine has been around for a long time,so people will know how much the price is
also, the target audience doesnt really pay
attention to the price, they only care about
the magazine and what's on it.
Main Image
The main image is on the front cover of the magazine. Every
magazine has a image which suits with the main sell like. On
this magazine, the main sell line is The Hunger Games and the
main image, is of a girl, but instantly we know the girl is from
hunger games, as she is the main image alongside the main sell
line. The image on the front cover, is a mid-shot. Her facial
expressions are dull but they show nervousness tensed. She
looks very focused. She is directly looking at the camera, whichmeans the image is looking at the reader, which makes the
reader want to buy the magazine.
Competitions
There are not any competitions in this front cover, but however
there are sell lines, which makes the reader want to know the
latest movie. THE 10 BIGGEST BLOCKBUSTERS YOU NEED TO SEE
is an example, which makes the reader want to read on about it,
and see which movies they need to see as they may have missed
out on it. This involves the audience.

CONTENTS PAGE ANALYSISDate and Issue Number
The date and the issue number of the
magazine is shown on the front cover
and also on the contents page. The
Issue Number is in a big font as it
would get the readers attentions.
Regulars
There is always a regular section in the contents page.
This is where all the regular features in the magazine.
This makes it easier for the readers that often read the
magazine and may be interested in one specific articlefrom the list.
Features
The Features section has
all the articles the reader
may want to read. This
again navigate the reader
on what they want to
read. With the features
list on the side, there are
images to support the
list, and there is extra
text written at the
bottom for the reader to
get a sneak peak on what
they would read about. The images support the
list, to navigate the
reader much more easier,
and makes the page look
more vibrant instead of
tons of text on a double
contents page making it
look dull, and putting off
the reader to read the
magazine. Subheadings
Subheadings are used to
highlight the key
features in the magazine
as well as telling the
reader which part of themagazine is which.
Text/Colour Scheme
In this page, the text is small, mainly a size
11 and maybe a sans font, mainly being
black and white, grey and blue, they are
all simple colours, as they need to make
the images stand out more to get the
readers attention. The titles and
subheadings are in bold to get the readers
attention as well.
Cover Feature
The Cover Feature is the main feature in
the contents page, it usually stands out
of the page, and its usually a picture,
which is big and get the readers
attention on their first look.
Article PreviewThe Article Preview is
the images on this page,
it usually has a image
and a caption to support
it with the page number,
this is an article feature.
Its a sneak peak for the
reader, which makes
them continue to read
on. The Preview is also
there so that the reader
has the choice to read it
whether or not, by
reading the article
preview on this page.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS

6/12
Main Image
The Main image is big and
outstanding it could be the only
image on the page. The Main Image
is a shot of the main characters in
the movie which is in cinemas.
Which I can tell from the title of the
page. The Image is the centre of theattention on this page. Without the
Image the reader wouldnt know
what they are reading about, and it
would put of the reader to read.
DOUBLE PAGE SPREAD ANALYSIS
21 Jump Street
The subheading is 21 Jump Street as the whole double page spread is based on a
recent released action comedy movie. They have a whole double page spread as they
want readers of the magazine to read the interview/review and if theyve enjoyed
reading it, then there is a possibilities of the reader to maybe go and watch the movie.
Its another way of Promoting upcoming movies. There is mainly a article about the film
or an interview of the an actor/actress or a director or someone who has been part of
the movie.
Pull Quote
There is always a
quote taken from
the article, aquote which
means something
or will make the
reader shocked or
excited. They are
usually big and
bold with quote
marks.
Text
The text is written in columns,
which makes the page muchmore neater, and easier to read.
The font is roughly about size 10-
12, and in a simple font.
Interview/Articles
In the double page spread, there
is mainly a article or interview
for the movie which is supportedwith a big image of a movie.
There is no interview featured in
this because, if there was then
there would be questions in bold
which would stand out of the
page. The answers would
normally be in a simple colour
with a normal, simple font and
colour.
Colour Scheme
The colour scheme in this page, is blue, white, black, and yellow. Its quite simple. The
colours have this reflection on moods and emotions, blue connotates blue calmness
and loyalty, whereas black connotates power, elegance and death. Black is a mysterious
colour it can also be a symbol of grief.

An Exclusive Interview with the Queen of action movies, Jessica Jinadasa, back in the film industry with another SMASH HIT MOVIE coming out in a
cinema near you in August.
How did you feel to be offered a main lead role by Michael Bay?
How can I describe it? I was speechless that Michael Bay came in person to offer me to play the lead role. I read through the script and the plot of the
movie. I thought to myself this movie is going to be a HIT. Filming the movie would be an Amazing experience for me. This time I was playing a double role,
which was a real challenge. Its a movie full of girl power. I got into my character easily, this fierce devil but also an in nocent, nice, and kind angel. When I
heard I was going to work with Chris Hemsworth, I thought I was dreaming. He impressed many viewers and myself in his hit action movie Thor. I
consider myself lucky. Dreams do come true, just need to have some patience.
Did you get on well with your co-stars Sophie McElroy and Chris Hemsworth?
I got on with Sophie very wellas Ive known her for more than 7 years. Weve been in the same school together, we have very close that I know her lifeand she knows my life upside down, inside out. She is so talented and a great friend. Chris Hemsworth is such a sweet guy, really down to earth when you
get to know him. He is such a prankstar! We are always are having a laugh while filming. Ill never forget those great, funny moments.
How did it feel to win a Oscar for Best Actress for your previous movie Fire Away?
It felt amazing, its my 4th Oscars Award. I was Speechless I was proud of myself. It was amazing, being an Oscar Winner made me feel like there is hope
for everyone. I dreamed and worked hard to reach the stage I am currently at.
Without the support from my family, friends and my wonderful fans, I wouldnt have been here in the first place.
I am honoured already to be nominated alongside, Jennifer Lawrence, Kristen Stewart, and Kate Winslet, but I never knew that I would beat them and win
the Award. The character I played in Fire Away, was similar to the real life me so I could easily link myself to the character.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?Hmmm... I see myself getting older, I want be to be forever young! I want to take a break from Hollywood and start being involved in the music industry
hopefully. I think I will be a busy woman, as I've got another movie contract with J.J Abrams. Im going to be shooting the next sequel for Race. How
Exciting!!
If you were involved in the Music Industry, who would you collaborate with?
I love to MAKE music instead of being part of the performing side, I would rather make music for big artists like Rihanna, Chris Brown, Adele and Jessie J.
They are all talented and wonderful artists. I love music in general, it helps me to concentrate in everything. Ive always l oved listening to music at a young
age... did you know I can play the guitar?
How does it feel to be the Queen of the action movies?
Well, in real life Im kind of violent. When I was in high school, I always got into fights, Being in my 5th action movie, di d actually make me feel like the
Queen of Action Movies.I also gained a lot of confidence after doing all those scenes of falling down, running through fire, jumping out of my car, etc.. Itwas painful (at times) but so fun, as I am that kind of girl that would just go for it and dont care I didnt have anyone be ing my stunt double. I did all the
main stunts and to be honest, it was crazy, I never
experienced anything like that. I always wanted to do something dangerous. I always take risks which
I dont regret at all.
Who inspired you in getting you into the Film industry?
I grew up watching my all time favourite actress Emma Watson in Harry Potter. She was amazing in each and every movie. My mum helped me a lot in this
journey of mine. She is the one who encouraged me.
Thank you Jessica for being with us and spending some of your time in answering our questions.
