Turn-Key Design

What separates IMS from the competition is the ability to incorporate advanced technologies into a one-truck transportable and easy-to-operate design. IMS dredges are carefully engineered with close attention paid to ballast, weight, space, maneuverability, safety and durability. Each Versi-Dredge comes standard with the patented STARWHEEL® Drive self-propulsion system which does not require any additional equipment like anchors, cables or a dredge tender boat.

The Versi-Dredge models are the easiest dredges to operate on the market. Two joy-stick controls integrate into an ergonomic operator’s chair to control all dredge functions and reduce operator stress that is associated with hydraulic lever controls. Operator cabs are climate controlled and include both digital and analog displays as well as a digital depth gauge. All IMS dredges are delivered with 300 feet (91m) of roll flat discharge hose and floats to provide the customer with the initial flexible discharge length needed for most projects.

IMS Patented Propulsion Technology

The IMS patented STARWHEEL Drive self-propulsion system originated as a customer-drive concept which has resulted in making dredging easier. By eliminating the entire cable rigging system, operators no longer need to block off entire channels or shutdown a marina to set up cables for each boat slip. The dredge can immediately maneuver itself into position without the use of a dredge tender boat or anchor crew. Not only has the STARWHEEL Drive system simplified the dredging process, operators have reported production increases of up to 40 percent.

The STARWHEEL Drive self-propulsion system consists of two independently driven paddle wheels that the operator can lower and raise independently of each other. Both paddle wheels are variable speed allowing the dredge to turn around in place inside the confines of a narrow waterway. On the surface, the STARWHEEL paddles act as paddle wheels allowing the dredge to proceed into its cut in light materials like sludge and soft mud. On the bottom of a waterway, the STARWHEEL paddles act as a positive traction drive system using the edges of the paddles to grab the bottom and use positive force to propel the dredge forward in sand, mud and heavier materials. The STARWHEEL system provides heavy torque that can be felt in the operator’s chair, so the operator knows when he is in the cut and moving forward into the material. The STARWHEEL paddles can be lowered and operated down to the maximum digging depth of the dredge. The new patented TractionMasterTM technology allows for higher speed paddling on the surface that automatically switches to high torque mode when operating on the bottom of the water body for optimal traction control.

SolidsMaster® Cutterhead

The IMS SolidsMaster cutterhead, which comes standard on every Versi-Dredge, is a unique design that uses carbide tipped teeth to aggressively cut through the material and direct the flow straight to the pump. This system provides more cutting force and can draw in more solids than conventional spiral augers with wider cutter bars that can restrict slurry flow to the pump when fully submerged. that significantly reduces turbidity, unlike conventional cutterheads which allow the particles to flow unrestricted into the water column. The SolidsMaster is powered by two high-torque direct drive motors that give the Versi-Dredge the extra edge over the competition. Since the Versi-Dredge system is commonly used in applications where large metallic and organic debris may be present, it is safe-guarded with a pressure relief valve that will automatically shut down the cutterhead to prevent damage to the dredge. The SolidsMaster cutterhead shroud also comes standard with the patented Pump Defender self-cleaning debris guard that allows the operator to restrict the size of debris that can enter the pump volute and cleans the debris from the pump inlet after every revolution of the cutterhead. The SolidsMaster system has proven to be the most clog-resistant auger cutterhead on the market. It reduces downtime especially when dredging in heavy debris that often clog other dredge systems.

WeedMaster® Cutterhead

The optional IMS patented WeedMaster cutterhead is a proprietary design that uses aggressive cutter knives to sheer and mulch heavy vegetation prior to sending it to the dredge pump. The WeedMaster cutterhead can be used in standard pipeline mode or can be used with the IMS Broadcaster attachment which sidecasts the material to the shore in an arc that can reach up to 100 feet (30m). This unique cutterhead converts the Versi-Dredge into an aquatic weed harvester. The cutterhead bolts on in place of the standard cutterhead using simple hand tools (a modified impeller may be required depending on the thickness of the vegetation). The WeedMaster makes the Versi-Dredge a multi-task machine and allows the dredge to remove a weed cover prior to dredging. The WeedMaster also saves the end user money since it is often 70 to 90 percent less expensive than purchasing an additional conveyor type harvester which cannot reach the cutting depth of the WeedMaster.

Broadcaster Attachment

The optional IMS Broadcaster attachment allows the dredge to quickly discharge the dredged material on the shore. This can be highly beneficial when dredging an emergency boat channel, wetlands creation or vegetation removal in rural canals. The Broadcaster fits directly at the end of the dredge ladder replacing the discharge line. The Broadcaster narrows the discharge diameter of the ladder creating a high-pressure cannon that can shoot silt, sand and vegetation up to 100 feet (30m) away depending upon the percentage of solids.

GPS System

The optional IMS Dredging GPS system allows the operator to keep track of the dredge’s position with sub-meter accuracy. This is ideal for large lakes and rivers where keeping track of the cuts can be tricky. Additional software can be added to keep track of where material has been removed, a feature which is beneficial for contract dredging. The IMS Dredging GPS system includes a laptop display mounted in the cab, dual GPS receiver and antennas, submersible pressure transducer for auger depth measurement, installation at the factory, and on-site training and calibration.

Standard Patented Pump Defender® Debris Screen

The patented Pump Defender, advanced version of a horizontal auger cutterhead debris screen, was designed to allow uninterrupted flow to the slurry pump while the cutterhead cleans it after every revolution. The Versi-Dredge SolidsMaster Cutterhead rotates one time per second, so every second the Pump Defender is cleaned to ensure maximum flow and minimum downtime.

The Pump Defender has successfully operated in heavily polluted waterways in SE Asia and reduced downtime by up to 90 percent. Additionally, the Pump Defender works well in heavy sea grass that can clog traditional debris guards and pumps. Dredge operators see the value in the Pump Defender as they do not have to shut down 8-9 times a day to clean off their debris screen. This improves operating efficiency, reduces diesel and labor costs, and allows the operation to stay ahead of schedule. A US customer was so impressed with the Pump Defender technology that they returned their leased dredge to IMS’s competitor and purchased a dredge with the Pump Defender.

Depth Master Dredges

The DM-60 Depth Master is IMS’s solution to make deep reservoir and protected port maintenance dredging affordable. No longer will reservoir and port operators need to hire large commercial dredging outfits to do expensive deep ladder dredge maintenance with oversized dredges built for offshore maintenance. The system creates an even bottom profile down to 60 ft. (18.3m) depth. This system ships in two pieces by road or break-bulk carrier greatly reducing mobilization and demobilization costs. The DM-60 comes standard with a 4-point anchor system, dual marine prop drive system with bow thruster for self-propulsion in lighter materials, and an IMS Dredging GPS system for accurate tracking against a pre-dredging survey. The DM-60 is available in diesel and electric power models.

Booster Pump Stations

IMS offers both diesel and electric skid-mounted booster stations in 8 in. x 1 0 in. (203mm x 254mm) and 10 in. x 12 in. (254mm x 305mm) configurations. Each booster pump is designed to fit into a standard ocean container for easy transport. Standard partial automation allows the booster to throttle up or down based on the slurry flow from the dredge. Additionally, IMS booster pumps can be configured to work with multiple inline booster stations to pump material several miles / kilometers.
