In 2011, Lookout Tavern Owner Phil Black said, “Let’s go for a bike ride” and came up with a crazy idea for a fundraiser to support Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports. Just nine years later, this “bike ride” supports about 30% of Vermont Adaptive’s operating budget—providing MORE outings and use of expensive adaptive equipment to as many athletes as possible from all walks of life, regardless of disability and of ability to pay.

You raised nearly $300,000 at the 9th Annual Vermont Adaptive Charity Ride presented by Long Trail Brewing. And since that inau-gural ride in June 2011, you have raised more than $1 million for this organization. Vermont Adaptive could not provide the programs we do without the support and effort from every rider, sponsor, donor, vendor, volunteer, and party-goer to this event.

Long Trail Brewing, President Dan Fulham and his incredible team have stepped to the plate for eight of these nine years as the pre-senting sponsor, providing support and an outstanding venue. We give a deep thanks to members of the Long Trail extended family as well, who work with the Long Trail leadership team and support this event each year.

Since 1987, Vermont Adaptive has provided adaptive sports out-ings statewide in Vermont to people with disabilities.

We are the largest non-profit in the state to do so, and we serve all ages and all (dis)abilities including those with physical, cognitive, emotional behavioral, and developmental disabilities. We are a national leader in the Adaptive Sports Industry and have more than 400 highly trained volunteer instructors, who donate more than 24,000 hours to our clients and statewide programs annually. The proceeds from this ride, including your sponsorship and fundraising dollars, help to provide year-round programming for more than 3,000 outings so those with disabili-ties can enjoy the outdoor activities and sports that many of us take for granted.

So thank you for being a part of our village and community. We’ll continue to set the bar even higher, with our mountain bike pro-gram, environmental education and holistic wellness programs and more. There are no boundaries in what we do. Simply endless possibilities.

Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports launched the inaugural cycling event as a fundraiser for its programs and operations in 2011.The event was the brainchild of Phil Black, a Vermont Adaptive board member and the owner of the Lookout Tavern in Killington.

From 75 riders on a cold, rainy day on June 25 to this past year’s ride with more than 600 cyclists including 40+ adaptive riders and guides, this fundraiser has become one of the flagship events for Vermont Adaptive Ski and Sports.

For eight of the nine years, Long Trail Brewing in Bridgewater Corners, has served as the presenting sponsor. In addition to providing the venue for the aprés-ride event, Long Trail Brewery is an incredible sponsor for the entire event and its team plays a critical role in the overall organization and execution of the event. Killington Resort is a black diamond sponsor and also contributes heavily to the success of this annual fundraiser. The Lookout Tavern and many local businesses in the Killington region come together to provide a fun and worthy event—pedaling and party-ing for a cause. The goal is to enjoy the beauty of Vermont through cycling all while raising funds for Vermont Adaptive, Vermont’s largest nonprofit organization committed to providing daily sports and recreational programs to people with disabilities on a year-round basis.

Whether cycling on the 100-mile, 60-mile or 40-mile loops, or simply journeying near the Brewery on the 20-mile loop or the family-friendly 5K or mountain biking, there is something for everyone to enjoy during the Vermont Adaptive Charity Ride.

All courses start and finish (except Mountain Biking) at Long Trail Brewery, located on Route 4. The festivities continue for all after the ride at the brewery, with a huge BBQ, live music and family entertainment, refreshments, a vendor village, silent auction, face painting and kids games, and more. For 2019, the mountain bike component was held on Sunday at Killington Resort.

Inspired by the 273-mile hiking trail that traverses through the Green Mountains, Long Trail Brewing Company has been a caretaker of Vermont craft since 1989.

Like the Ottauquechee River that flows alongside our brewery, we’ve been twisting and turning with the evolving craft beer landscape for more than 25 years, remaining true to our roots with Vermont classics like Long Trail Ale and innovative, hop-drenched offerings like Limbo IPA and Trail Hopper.
