Picture Placer:Browse your pics and load into the picture placer. Only load 20 at a time. Click on pics and click on green boxes to place them.
When you place a picture on your page, InDesign automatically creates a linked copy of that pic in the page folder that you created.
If you have placed a picture and you want to delete it, you must delete it from the picture placer to make sure the link and the new picture file that was created in the page folder are deleted!
Picture Placing Reminders:
TOOLS PALETTE
Character Tab: Make adjustments to the text (individual letters), like font, font type and size.
Adjust height of letters. Adjust kerning (spacing between each letter)
Paragraph Tab: Make adjustments to position text, like flush, right, center, justified.
Create an initial (drop) cap.
Characters (fonts)

DO NOT use TRUE TYPE FONTS

Pay attention to detail and take the time to do this correctly or your pages will get sent back from the printer for using unprintable fonts
Tip for Placing Text in a Box
When you see this come up with your cursor, it means that you have ran out of space in your text box, but you have more text left in the story to place. If you simply drag that icon to the next column and click, it will drop that text in the next column (continuing the story)
When you see this icon appear at the lower right of your text box, it means that you have more text to your story that your text box had room to hold. You will need to click on that icon … then follow the instructions to the right …
TOOLS PALETTE CON’T
Stroke Tab: A stroke is the outline you place around a letter, graphic or photo. Weight = size of that outline.
If you have a line drawn on your page, you can adjust the type of line and size and color of the line too.
Swatches Tab: Allows you to adjust the color to your stroke or a text box.

DROPDOWN MENU (TOP OF PAGE):• A look at what you
will use frequently
Type Drop Down Menu: To indent a new paragraph, go to INSERT WHITE SPACE > EM SPACE
Do this twice to indent for a new paragraph
Dropdown Menu
Object Drop Down Menu: Go here to access the EFFECTS MENU so that you can add an effect to text, photo, graphic, box, etc.
Effects include gradient, inner glow, outer glow, bevel and emboss, and drop shadow, to name a few. Within each effect menu, there are countless modifications you can make to your effect (size, color, etc.), just like in Photoshop.
You can really manipulate the way things look by using the Effects Menu
You can also right click the mouse to find the Effects Menu
Dropdown Menu Con’t.
Object Drop Down Menu: When you layout a box on the page (that is not an invisible text box), you will need to adjust the borders of the box so that the text and photos don’t lay right against the edges of your box.
This is accomplished by going to TEXT FRAME OPTIONS. This allows you to move the text and photos contained within your box off the borders.
HINT 1: Link All 4 Box Positions
HINT 2: Click on preview to see your changes as you make them on the page
Go to InsetSpacing
EXAMPLE
This is what it looks like when you adjust the text frame options to add some space between the border and your content. See the space between the edge of the box and the photos and text? It’s even all around. It looks good. That’s what you want!
Tool Submenu
Kind of a repeat of what’s in the palettes EXAMPLE
Text Tool Sub Menu: Allows you to make text adjustments to font, style, size, spacing, paragraph (just like the “character” and “paragraph” side menus (to the right hand side of the page)
