REMEMBERING THE LIFE OF AL SIEGLE
Alvin “Al” Edwin Siegle was born July 3, 1933 to Jacob and Marie
(Gaub) Siegle in Glendive, MT. He grew up on the family farm,
graduating from Dawson County High School in 1951. After working
on the family farm for two years, Al attended Concordia College in
Moorhead, MN. There he played football, and in 1957 he graduated with
a Bachelor’s Degree in Education.
On June 4, 1957, Al was united in marriage to Faye Solberg in Finley,
ND. They moved to Grand Forks where he earned his Master’s Degree
in Education from the University of North Dakota.
In 1958, Al began his teaching career in the Bertha-Hewitt School
District. The Siegle family moved to Pelican Rapids in 1964 where he
was a teacher, football coach, and athletic director. In later years, he
became an Administrative Assistant. He retired in 1994 from education
but was still involved in the school system by substitute teaching,
broadcasting sporting events, and keeping records for track meets. He
also raised Corriente rodeo cattle for ten years.
He was named to the Minnesota Athletic Directors Hall of Fame and
Minnesota State High School Football Coaches Association Hall of
Fame. He also received the Concordia College Alumni Achievement
Award and the Pelican Rapids P.R.I.D.E. Award.
Al was actively involved in Trinity Lutheran Church and the community
of Pelican Rapids. He was proud of his home state of Montana and
passionate about spending time with family at their lake cabin, playing
cribbage, and strumming his guitar. Al will be remembered for his great
sense of humor, his love of people, and his deep faith in God. He was an
encourager, a great mentor, and friend to many.
Al Siegle, age 82, of Pelican Rapids, MN, passed away Monday, August
24, 2015 at the Pelican Valley Nursing Center in Pelican Rapids,
