Our beloved, Mary Hazel McLaughlin Virgil, the daughter of the late Jake & Belle McLaughlin, was born on December 30, 1946 in Hoke County, NC. She was educated in the Hoke County School System and a graduate of Upchurch High School. Mary continued her education at Sandhills Community College with a degree in Early Childhood Education. Mary was a hardworking individual and willing to help anyone that she could. She was employed at Burlington Industries for over 30 plus years and was employed with Taylor Town Headstart where she was an educator. She found her passion working with the youth and instilling some life learning experiences into them. Mary loved her family especially her grandchildren that she instilled in them to have Faith, to Believe, and to Pray. Mary sang and praised the Lord even up to the moments before her death. Her favorite song was “War” by Charles Jenkins. Mary was a faithful member of Mt. Calvary Church, she worked whole heartedly as Youth President, Nurse, Usher on the Usher Board and other various capacities. Mary was formerly married to Levone Virgil and to this union two children was born: Michelle Virgil Allen and Patrick Levone Virgil. Mary departed her earthly home on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at First Health Hospital in Pinehurst, NC. She had two sisters who preceded her in death, Hattie Bell McLaughlin and Dorothy Monroe; and two grandchildren who preceded her in death, Montrez Virgil and Shakayla Virgil. She leaves to cherish her memories, one daughter: Michelle Virgil Allen (Raphael) of Sanford, N.C. and one son: Patrick Levone Virgil of Raeford, NC ; nine grandchildren: Keondra Virgil, Breonna Virgil, Latoya Allen, Raphael Allen II, Patronne Virgil, Kaliah Singletary, Jha’Nhariah Virgil, Javion Virgil, Ja’Nylah Virgil; two great grandchildren: BreAri Virgil and Jacier Virgil; four sisters: Hazel Jones (Richard), Carolyn Easterling (Carnell), Clara Graham, Sheffie Turner (Eric); four Brothers: Billy McLaughlin (Lynette), Terry McLaughlin (Regina), Yancey McLaughlin and Milton McLaughlin (Angela); a special aunt, Marian Russell; also, a very dependable and special sister-in-law, Shirley McLaughlin, that she could always count on; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, extended family and friends that she loved dearly.
