NAME OF PROJECT

Introduce & Introduction Confidential Enquire of Maternal deaths (CEMD) at National level. Introduction of near-miss case review at the facility level (NMCR), ITP 4

DIRECT OUTCOME OF PROJECT• Organization and work of the National Committee of CEMD and regional coordinators of CEMD

•Piloting introduction in 6 hospitals of NMCR

•Publication of the first national report and publication in European magazine of SRHR

SPIN-OFF EFFECTS• A national Task Force on audit of maternal mortality and critical cases in obstetric practice has been set up. All team members (midwives and obstetricians) are members of the task force

•National level publicaton of clinical protocols by major obstetric complications (Post partum hemmorhage, preeklampsia/eklampsia, induction of labour and so on)

•One member of the team is now National co-ordinator of NMCR and a member of National committee of CEMD. He is also an Internatio-nal adviser of WHO in the project ”beyond the numbers”

• The audit has led to reduction of maternal mortality of hemorrhages and eclampsia in Almaty, Astana cities and South- Kazakhstanregion

•The city Health Department has appointed me the Secretary of confidential maternal mortality audit in Almaty city

• I have held training on audit of critical cases in maternity hospitals of Almaty city

• I participated in the reporting of the Commis-sion on confidential audit of maternal mortality in all the pilot territories

•Development of algorithms to provide emer-gency care during post-partum hemorrhages, severe preeclampsia and eclampsia

•My experience of work has demonstrated to all the health workers of Almaty city that a mid-wife may participate in decision-making regar-ding serious issues and not only at the level of the health facility she/he works but at the country level as well

NEXT STEPS• Broadcast the first report of Maternal Mortality Confidential Audit

•Spread and implement the new NMCR pilots to 2 new regions

•Continue the work of Maternal Mortality Confidential Audit and NMCR
