Drawing inspiration from the salons of 19th-century Europe, Principal Cello is a must-buy for cello teachers and players! It’s fantastic for discovering new repertoire because it includes many pieces that are not available in modern editions.
Works by Janáček and Grieg sit alongside a hidden gem from William Henry Squire, as well as cello arrangements of popular recital pieces like Borowski’s Adoration.
The diffi culty level ranges from Grade 6 to 8, and some pieces will be set on the B and C lists of the new Cello Syllabus, so it’s really useful for exams as well as general performance.

Piano Practice Partner is a fun way for students to practise their exam pieces hands separately.
Students can play one hand at a time while the app plays the other, which makes playing exam repertoire more enjoyable and rewarding.
Described by BBC Music Magazine as ‘brilliantly easy to navigate and inviting to use’, this app is available for iPhone, iPad, iPod touch and AndroidTM devices. It’s free to download and then requires in-app purchases.

This July ABRSM will publish a selection of Violin Exam Pieces to support the Violin Syllabus 2016–2019, which takes effect from January 2016.
These books are a convenient way for teachers and students to access a selection of syllabus repertoire.
These new books in the Time Pieces series chart six centuries of viola repertoire, taking players on a journey through different styles and periods of music.
Students will be able to use the books to take Grades 1 to 5 of the new Viola Syllabus, with additional repertoire to explore at the higher grades.
We recommend that teachers and students use these books in conjunction with the syllabus to ensure their choices are valid in exams.
Joining the Dots helps build confi dence and improve performance during the sight-reading element of ABRSM exams. The series engages students with creative, varied exercises and has now been extended to include Grades 6, 7 and 8.

The requirements for Bowed Strings scales, arpeggios and sight-reading were updated in 2012, and we will not be changing them when the new syllabuses are released in 2015.
The covers for Scales and Arpeggios and Specimen Sight-Reading Tests for Violin, Viola, Cello and Double Bass will be updated throughout 2015. The content will stay the same, so the current books will all still be valid.
