In-Text Citations….Made Easy….

In-text citations are as important as writing the paper itself. In many classes, you can’t even hand in your paper without them! In-text citations are placed in every paragraph to show where you got your information from. Below are basic rules for how to use them.

First, you need to know how to create in-text citations. You do this by going to www.citationmachine.net, filling out the correct information, and the website will do the rest! Below is an example of where you will find you’re the citation that you will actually use in your text. (You will notice mine is COMPLETELY made up- yours won’t be!)

For this example, we are going to use two sources, the one above (Poynton) and we’ll make up another one. We will call this one (Mohring). Please see the following page for how and where to apply these citations.

Here is your in-text citation. This one is (Poynton)

Page 2: In text citations

Example 1: All information comes from the same source

Computers are amazing. They are the most important subject you can learn in school. Actually, computers are the only thing you should be learning in school. You learn so many incredible things in computer class. You are lucky because you have the best computer teacher ever (Poynton)!

Example 2: Information comes from two different sources

Over 150 percent of students love computers (Poynton). English class, however, is the second most important class. It is far more important than math, science, and social studies. Everyone loves English. Plus, you have the most amazing English teacher too (Mohring)!

Example 3: Information from two sources, multiple times

Computer class goes all the way back to the 1800s (Poynton). English class, however, began sometime in the 1600s. Ironically, this is around the same time your English teacher was born (Mohring). Computer class is still the most important class you will ever have (Poynton).
