Dear Parents and Players
Welcome to the 2016 year at WDJFC. Many of you will find me repe ve in that I talk about WDJFC being a community club focussing on developmental football. Pu ng that in basic terms, it is that we bring together children and parents from various schools and backgrounds to share in the enjoyment of our children learning football and the broader skills of sharing, friendship and decision making. It is your par cipa on that makes our club func on so well as we work together for the chil-dren’s development. It is also the sponsorship of the broader community in allow-ing us to provide you all with the facili es to enjoy the game.
I had the pleasure of a ending our opening of the Auskick season on the weekend. To see the smiles and hear the laughter of the kids enjoying themselves is a posi ve reminder as to why we all help out. Grabbing a coffee and talking to a number of parents also wasn’t a bad way to spend a Saturday morning. Then on Sunday I watched two games of our older year groups and I was extremely impressed with some of the skills on display. I encourage you all to come down to Luke na Reserve and support your teams. There is a lot to be gained with the younger children watching the older boys play their games.
I hope you all enjoy the season as you watch your kids develop their skills. This is about the kids and their enjoyment so try and remember that as you yell at them to remember their mouthguard as you are running out of the house to make a game on me.
Good luck for the season ahead.

Preston Bridge Game —
Sunday 15 May, 3.15pm
Y12 Wembley Downs Cats
vs Y12 Marist Black The annual Preston Bridge Game is held each year between
a Wembley Downs Cats and Marist team in honour of
Preston Bridge who played football at both clubs.
Preston was a fabulous kid who attended Churchlands Sen‐
ior High School. Preston’s life was cut
tragically short when he consumed a
synthetic drug purchased on the inter‐
net after the school ball.
Since Preston’s passing Rod Bridge
and his family have been working tire‐
lessly to raise awareness of the harm
drugs cause in our community.
So come on down and
support this great
game!
Modified Coach of the year—David Woolfe
David Woolfe has been involved in Junior Football coaching since 2012, star ng with the Super 8s, through Y4s, 5s, 6s and now 7s.
David’s philosophy has been very consistent “ having fun whilst developing the boys skills”. He carefully plans every training session to ensure that the skills of the game are taught whilst crea ng a fun environment for the boys . This follows through to game day where all boys are rotated through all posi ons at various mes to ensure they are en-joying themselves whilst ge ng exposure to all parts of the game. David always preaches good sportsmanship to all play-ers, coaches and parents.
Congratula ons David and good luck for the coming season!

The 100 Club raises funds for the benefit of the Club and has donated the TV and BBQ so far. This year the intent is to build a cabinet to house the AV equipment and trophies. The 100 Club also locates jumpers worn by past Cats players that have gone on to play AFL football, so that we can proudly display them in the Clubrooms.
The cost of membership is $100. To join, either click on the link below or copy and paste it into your browser https://wembleydownsjfc.tidyclub.com/public/memberships/new
OR turn up with your $100 on Friday 13th May. Join in—it’s a great experience!

Watch your mouth! Please be aware that the WAFC is targeting swearing in Junior Football. As per the AFL Laws of the Game, if a player swears within a game and is overheard by an umpire, then a free kick will be paid against the player as a means of positively addressing the game day environment.

Are you a good spectator? The objective of the WDJFC and Claremont District is to provide an opportunity for children of all ages and abilities to play football in a fun and safe environment. All players, parents, coaches, officials and spectators are ex-pected to adhere to a Code of Conduct to actively promote a positive game envi-ronment and not accept poor behaviours that are detrimental to the game.
The district maintains an E point (game environment) system that awards or de-ducts premiership points to junior teams based upon the manner in which that team conducts itself during the match / season. The umpires will include this on the team sheets.
So please don’t use bad language or argue with anyone at games. Treat umpires, officials and the opposition with respect at all times and acknowledge good play from both teams.
Feel free to contact our President, Rob Prince if you have any complaints in the first instance on [email protected] .
