My mom used to say, “you can’t have dessert until you eat your vegetables.” There always seemed to be a

‘this’ before I could get ‘that’. Things haven’t changed much really. I find I still have to finish ‘this’ before I get ‘that’. The latest and most frustrating is my kitchen. About a month ago we decided to remodel. This didn’t seem, at the time, to be such a big deal. Although if I had listened to Terry I would have seen a clearer picture of just how long remodeling a kitchen can take. We decided to do what we could ourselves because it can get expensive in a hurry. So, with high hopes and blind naivete we dove in. First, you empty all the cupboards. That makes your home look like a hoarder lives here. Next, all the drawers and doors come out and get sanded and painted. Then it all has to go back together. All the while Whooeee sits in the garage gathering dust and suffering from a cripple clutch. I want to do ‘that’, but I can’t ’til I finish ‘this’.

March 2014 Healey Meeting Minutes

The March 12th meeting was held at the Philadelphia Sandwich Co. 3904 Convoy St. San Diego 27 Members and guests were in attendance: Drove Healeys*, other British~.

Meeting was called to order at 7.25 p.m. by president Terry Cowan. General Discussions: Terry talked about the upcoming Monterey Historic races. This looks to be a

week long event and any members visiting the races were invited to drop by “Terry’s Digs” and say, ‘hi’. Obviously there will be more to say after the event. Bob Humphreys mentioned a new tour possibility which would show us some different scenery.

VIce President/ Membership: As the February mailed newsletters were held up by a postage rate problem of some kind, Lynne opted to delay publishing the 2014 club roster to give any late joiners a chance to be included..

Secretary: Dick Schmidt: No comments for the meeting minutes, Treasurer: Mike Dolphin indicated that the bank balance is holding even.Newsletter: Sam mentioned last month that Moss Motors has issued a challenge involving taking

pictures of your car by street or other signs to prove your location. Sam has started this and while he didn’t let us in on all of his progress he joked about having trouble with cities having names beginning with ‘Q’ and ‘X’.

Activities: We are getting into the season where San Diego, and Calif. In general, presents a lot of opportunities for the car buff. For our monthly drive, the flowers and sculptured animals at Borago became our choice. Bob mentioned the history of Dennis Avery buying property and having the animals made which now amounts to some 130 or so. This will happen on Sat .March 15th. Meeting place is the Ramona Valley Grill (old Sizzler) at 9.30 a.m. to leave at 10.00. For information, the event routing is Ramona to Ranchita to Borago, home by way of Banner Grade.

Saturday, 15 March Desert Drive. The weather was beautiful, warm but not hot. Neil Tabachki, Terry and a friend from the Bay Area, Sue and I in three Healeys left Ramona at 10:30. We stopped at Dudley’s.

The place was packed with folks from the z Car Club, Jaguar Club and a few motorcycles. Even ran into Sue and Craig Turner out for a ride in their Jag with the Club. We had a great drive through Ranchita and

down Montezuma grade overlooking the Borrego Valley followed by a nice lunch at the Red Ocotillo and then out to Galleta Meadows to view Sky Art, metal sculptures by artist Ricardo Brecedas.

After pictures, headed back home by way of 78, Banner Grade and Julian. Neil and Terry left us in Julian as Sue and I headed for Ramona. The five of us had a very nice day.

CHW 2014 UpdatePreparations for CHW 2014 in Morro Bay from May 28th to June 1st are going well. David Nock of British Car Specialists has agreed to do a "Safety Check" Tech Session on Friday afternoon, following the drive to Paso Robles. While there in Paso Robles, by the way, participants will have the option to tour the Military Aircraft/Historic Car museum.

Bruce Erfer, AHASC charter member, former president and coordinator of many early CHWs is also planning to attend...all the way from Maui. Many of you may know Bruce, as he owned British Wire Wheel in Santa Cruz. He has written an entertaining and informative article for the April issue of Healey Motor News about the early days of owning Healeys and the formation of our club in 1974. For those from the AHCSD who register for CHW, I will send you this issue of the newsletter.

You may know that Morro Bay is a bird preserve, and thus has a lot of birds of many varieties flying around. To avoid them from fouling our parked Healeys, all attendees will receive a protective car cover, thanks to Moss Motors.

So far, we have 31 cars registered, with over 50 people attending, including some recent restorations (cars, not people!). We are hoping for over 60 cars total, which should be reachable considering we are two months away from the event. We sent 200 flyers out to Healey owners in California to encourage a great turnout. We hope you can make it, and we look forward to seeing you in Morro Bay.

To get a registration form and stay in touch with the latest CHW news, please visit our website at www.austin -heayel.org.

Car of the Year Award In an effort to recognize Club members who participate with their Healeys, the Austin Healey Club of San Diego awards Car of the Year (COTY) points for various activities. Opportunities to collect CotY points include any car-related events (shows, drives, rallies, etc.) sponsored by an official organization (other car clubs, auto museum, city chambers of commerce, charities) where you participate with your Healey. These events may or may not be listed in the newsletter. The participant is responsible for providing proof of participation (entrance fee receipt, photo, corroboration from other club members etc.) to the CotY recorder, Rick Snover (619-980-4194 or [email protected]), within 30 days after the event. AHCSD events will have a sign-in sheet that will be forwarded to the recorder. For multi-Healey families, be sure to indicate which car(s) you drove. CotY points currently approved by the Board are: AHCSD Meetings & Tech Sessions 4 pts; AHCSD driving Events, Parties etc. 6 pts; California Healey Week 16 pts; Healey Rendezvous 16 pts; Austin Healey Conclave 16 pts; S.D. British Car Day & Rolling B.C.D. 10 pts; Other non-AHCSD one day events 2 pts; Other non-AHCSD multi-day events 4pts. The Board on a case-by-case basis may award points for other events.
