Bell Textron, Inc. celebrated Veteran's Day by hosting a PaYS signing ceremony and becoming the newest member of the Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program for the U.S. Army and the Dallas Recruiting Battalion. With this signing, they have been formally granted partnership status and are excited to announce guaranteed face-to-face interviews for Army PaYS Soldiers. The signing ceremony was accommodated at Bell Textron Headquarters in Fort Worth, TX, and hosted a large number of attendees, including Bell-Textron employees, Army officials, PaYSMarketer Davin Bentley, and special guests. Special guest speakers at the ceremony, were MG Frank M. Muth, Commander of the United States Army Recruiting Command (USAREC), Mitch Snyder, CEO of Bell Textron, Inc., and Mr. Don Elder, original member of the Tuskegee Airmen.

MG Muth spoke first and expressed his appreciation for the addition of Bell Textron, Inc. to the PaYS program. MG Muth shared with the audience, "as a former pilot in a (U.S. Army) Cavalry Squadron, this PaYS Ceremony is perhaps the dearest to my heart. To the Bell employees in attendance - your work and history have saved Soldiers' lives through safety and precision and you continue to create aviation technology of tomorrow, today.“

Bell is one of Textron's five globally-recognized businesses. Bell's global workforce serves customers (commercial and military) flying Bell aircrafts in more than 120 countries. Bell is globally recognized for its world-class customer service, innovation, and superior quality. CEO of Bell Textron, Mitch Snyder stated, "There's no doubt military training instills leadership, loyalty, and commitment. Bell values and respects these qualities and has been fortunate to employ former servicemen and women for over 80 years, benefitting from their skills and experiences. Taking care of the Troops both while they are serving and when they return to civilian life will always be at the forefront of our company's mission."

There is never a dull moment for a PaYS marketer, and the U.S. Army 1st Recruiting Brigade has kept Antonio Johnson (PaYS Marketer) very engaged. Antonio Johnson has kept a very tight schedule between attending and preparing signing ceremonies, making new connections, preparing speeches for annual trainings, and more.

Albert Einstein Healthcare Network becomes partner #869 and the first healthcare network in the Delaware Valley to join Army PaYS. On November 12, 2019, a ceremony was held to announce the partnership at the hospital's headquarters in Philadelphia, PA.

BG Michael Place, the U.S. Army's Deputy Command Surgeon General, officiated the ceremony which was attended by the Mid-Atlantic Army Recruiting Battalion Commander, LTC Brendan Toolan, Ken Wong, Philadelphia Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, leaders from the 1st Medical Recruiting Battalion and a host of physicians, staff and invited guests of the hospital. Ken Levitan, Executive Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer, Albert Einstein Health Network, signed the ceremonial memorandum of agreement along with BG Place.

During his remarks, BG Place recalled being assigned to U.S. Army Accessions Command during the inception of PaYSin 2000 and said, "It is a tremendous privilege to sign one of these memorandums of agreement." Mr. Levitan spoke of the origin of Veterans Day during his remarks and asked that all of Einstein's Veteran employees stand and be recognized.

Additionally, attendees at the ceremony had the distinct pleasure of listening to special keynote speaker, Mr. Don Elder, one of the original Tuskegee Airmen. Don Elder enlisted in the U.S. Army when he was 17, and racism and segregation in Armed Forces was a way of life. Tuskegee Airmen are the African American Soldiers assigned to the Army Air Corps program. The Air Corps Officials built the facility separately to solely train African Americans to fly and maintain combat aircrafts during World War II. After Mr. Elder's service, he went back to his hometown of Columbus, OH. In 2007, approximately 300 Tuskegee Airmen (including Mr. Elder) were awarded the United States Congressional Gold Metal by President George W. Bush at the United States Capitol, Washington, D.C.

Veteran's Day is a day to honor those who have served our nation and thank them for their service. The PaYS team is extremely excited to welcome Bell Textron, Inc. to the Army family and is more than confident that they will add value to the U.S. Army and the Dallas Recruiting Battalion!

Albert Einstein Healthcare Network, a private, not-for-profit organization with several major hospitals, throughout the Philadelphia region, will offer employment opportunities to transitioning PaYS Soldiers. These career fields include security, medical, food service and maintenance.

CPL Williams, an Army Veteran and Army Spouse, shared her Army story about joining the Army with her twin sister; even though they declined the "Buddy Program", which would have allowed them to attend basic training and their first assignment together. As CPL Williams looked into audience she spoke directly to the five Future Soldiers and told them, "Don't give up! Everyone wearing the uniform started their career exactly where you are...we made it and are making it!"

Sheriff Berry signed the ceremonial agreement along with the Baltimore Army Recruiting Battalion Commander, LTC Nathan Allard. After the plaque and certificate presentation, LTC Allard administered the Oath of Enlistment to the Future Soldiers of the Waldorf Army Recruiting Station. Charles County Commissioner Thomassina Coates expressed her admiration for Veterans and said, "The Future Soldiers taking the Oath was amazing.“

The next day, Antonio traveled to Portsmouth, VA to give an Army PaYS presentation during Richmond Army Recruiting Battalion's Annual Training Conference. Approximately 275 Soldiers were in attendance at the conference to include the battalion leadership and staff as well as the Civilian Aide to the Secretary of the Army, Mike Flanagan.

Antonio gave a PaYS program update to the battalion where he discussed PaYS accessions, the partner selection increase and the implementation of the Virginia Army National Guard as a pilot program. He then introduced Army PaYS POCs, Cameron Miller, Leadership Director, MassMutual Commonwealth and Alan Miller, Employee Experience Specialist, Norfolk Southern Corporation. Cameron started with a motivational video from MassMutal and then engaged the Soldiers in a practical exercise. Alan discussed Norfolk Southern's operation across the United States as well as their corporate headquarters relocating to Atlanta, GA next summer. Both of them emphasized the value that Veterans add to their organizations and how proud they were to be partnered with the Army PaYS program.

Immediately following the presentation, Soldiers lined up to speak with Antonio about potential partnerships in their areas and to ask PaYSrelated questions. LTC Andrew Burgess, Commander, Richmond Army Recruiting Battalion, thanked Antonio, Cameron and Alan for a great presentation and invited them to come back and speak to the battalion at future events.

The Army PaYS team is dedicated to providing the PaYS Partners, Soldiers, and the U.S. Army with the highest level of professionalism and quality. Our goal at Army PaYS is to help transitioning service members find their next career and to connect them with military-friendly employers. Being a PaYS marketer will keep you on your toes, but it is a rewarding career.

Later that week, Charles County Sheriff's Office (CCSO) recently joined over 100 other law enforcement agencies in the Army PaYS partnership. CCSO conducted a signing ceremony at their headquarters in La Plata, MD, where their Honor Guard presented the Colors and the National Anthem was sung by a Corrections Officer from the organization. Less than a week before Veterans Day, Dalton Utilities joined the United States Army's Partnership for Youth Success (PaYS) program, pledging to grant job interviews to Soldiers.

The memorandum of agreement was signed November 5th at Dalton Utilities by LTC Fredrick Parker, Battalion Commander of the Army's Atlanta Recruiting Battalion, and Tom Bundros, Chief Executive Officer of Dalton Utilities. In addition, Garrett Brown, who graduated earlier this year from Northwest Whitfield High School, and Tab Seritt, senior at Sonoraville High School, took their oath of enlistment during the ceremony, with both citing benefits like PaYS as reasons for joining the Army.

"There's a family tradition in the Army, but it's the benefits, as well," said Seritt, who has been a member of his school's Junior Reserve Officers' Training Corps (JROTC) since his sophomore year. "It's a good career path," seconded Brown. "I'll have a job when I come back." LTC Parker is looking forward to the maturation of Brown and Seritt as they receive Army training, he said. The most proud day he had as a company commander was graduation day for recruits because "they chose to serve our country," he said.

PaYS is one of the most important, yet least known, programs for Army members. It also helps attract recruits, said Shaun Glaze, a Sergeant in the Army who recruits out of the Dalton Army Recruiting Station. PaYS is "definitely a good talking point when we (discuss) life after the Army," he said. "This sets them up for when they get out," as PaYS has a wide variety of partners ranging from the Chattanooga Police Department and City of Warner Robbins to Shaw Industries and now, Dalton Utilities, Glaze said. "It's important to use all the benefits we offer to your advantage," he added.

PaYS is "a win-win for all parties involved," said Dewey L. Moss, a Veteran and past commander of American Legion Post 112 in Dalton. Recruits are serving their country while preparing for their future, and the skills they learn in the military can translate directly into the workforce, he said. The Army provides motivated, committed and highly-skilled individuals, and those qualitiesare all in demand by employers, Parker said.

Dalton Utilities already employees 25 Veterans - more than 8% of its workforce - and it only makes sense for the company to join PaYS, since "some of our strongest hires have been military Veterans," Bundros said. "We always want to support the U.S. military, and (these individuals) have maturity beyond their years, strong work ethics, integrity and can-do attitudes," Bundrossaid. Often, the highest hurdle for military reservists is getting released from their companies to serve their duty, Parker said. "It's a testament to Dalton Utilities the company lets (reservists) off to do their duty and return without any hiccups.“

By being part of PaYS, Dalton Utilities has a chance to employ "the best and brightest," Moss said. Those who serve in the Army emerge knowing how to work in a team setting to accomplish goals, communicate adroitly, complete missions on time and under budget, follow instructions or lead, and conduct themselves according to a code of ethics. Hiring Veterans and making Dalton a community "friendly" to Veterans is "good business," Moss said. "Let's all work to make our community more attractive to Veterans," he said.

The PaYS program ensures Soldiers are guaranteed a job interview with a PaYS partner of their choice after completing their Army Reserve training or first term of active duty service. The program provides employers with a pool of highly skilled, motivated and professional candidates from which they can fill their personnel needs.

Republic Services Becomes Latest Army PaYS Partner(continued)

Republic Services, Inc. was incorporated in 1996 and is a leader in the domestic non-hazardous solid waste industry, as measured by revenue as well as a Fortune 500 company, publicly traded on the New York Stock Exchange. They provide non-hazardous solid waste and recycling services for commercial, industrial, municipal and residential customers in 41 states. "The partnership with Republic Services is a vital step forward in providing the local job market with qualified workers, which gives back to the community," said Lt. Col. Scott Morley, Commander, Phoenix Recruiting Battalion. "We are proud to be associated with this outstanding institution, who will now have access to some of the finest young Americans this nation has to offer and keep them a part of the local community workforce," Morley said. "Republic Services can now be proud of the fact they are directly helping young men and women who are willing to sacrifice their lives to protect America's freedom."

The company can choose from a range of varied job seekers, who represent the diverse nature of the U.S. Army and society, Morley said. "The Army seeks qualified resilient and fit people of character who represent the diversity of America- this is the pool of potential employees Republic Services will now have access to," Morley continued. "These are candidates who have established a positive work ethic, have values, have entry to mid-level leadership skills, are tested free and clear of drugs and have honorably served or are serving their country."

Morley said the standards for military service are higher than ever, making the job candidates among a select group of individuals. "Most people are not aware, but the standards for military service are high. More than 70 percent of today's youth do not qualify for military service," he added. "Many are also unaware of the many educational opportunities available in the Army, including the Montgomery GI Bill, Post 9/11 GI Bill and Army College Fund, not to mention monetary enlistment incentives up to $40,000."

"We value our PaYS partners and are proud to be able to supply Republic Services with qualified and talented young Soldiers, who will undoubtedly be a major asset. We look forward to a long and profitable partnership," Morley concluded.

Also speaking was Donald Slager, Chief Operating Officer, Republic Services, who said his company has a long standing commitment to the military, with over 2700 Veterans currently working for the business. "We've built our success on five values that we call the five R's: Respect, Responsibility, Reliability, Resourcefulness, and a Relentless drive to achieve our goals and serve our customers," Slager said. "We know these values align well with those transitioning from or are actively engaged in military service." Veterans and service members bring a wealth of knowledge, discipline, ethics and accountability through theirroles at Republic Service, something the PaYS program will only help increase, Slager said.

"We're intensifying our efforts to hire Veterans and service members and through targeted strategies like PaYS, we're working to grow the number of Veterans working with us," he continued. "We strive to be the best at everything we do and that means having the best people."

Pennington County Sheriff's Office Gives Back

Story By: Stephanie McCoy, Human Resources Manager PCSO & Gabby BonillaPhotos by: Stephanie McCoy

The Pennington County Sheriff's Office (PCSO) became a PaYS partner in the Spring of 2019, and has a high standard of commitment to their community and personnel hired. Pennington County Sheriff's Office serves over 100,000 citizens and is spread out over 2,776 square miles. PSCO also serves a high number of visitors and tourists in the area, as Pennington County is home to Mount Rushmore National Monument and Ellsworth Airforce Base. The Sheriff's Office is divided into four divisions: Addiction Treatment Services, Western South Dakota Juvenile Services Center, Law Enforcement and the Pennington County Jail.

Although the Pennington County Sheriff's Office became a PaYS partner in 2019, they have created programs and events to help their community. In 2012, the Sheriff's Office created the Jail Inmate Garden. This garden is located in Box Elder, directly outside the gate to Ellsworth Airforce Base. In 2019, minimum security inmates yielded 20,973 pounds of fruits and vegetables. They're involved in the whole process from soil preparation to planting, crop rotation, and drip irrigation and harvesting. The best part is that the food grown helps feed their fellow inmates and nonprofit organizations in the community.

The Inmate Garden has helped the Sheriff's Office continue to build a great relationship with the community and those who serve at the Ellsworth Airforce Base. Every October, PCSO host their free popular community pumpkin give-away. 1,130 pumpkins were given away along with tons of produce. Local and Military community members took bags and wheel-barrows of garden produce home to their families.

The PCSO has a high standard of commitment to the local and military community, and they have great success at connecting everyone together. The Sheriff's Office, also prides itself in hiring a workforce that is professional. As an Army PaYS partner, they are able to grow their workforce with PaYS Soldiers, who live by the Army Values and understand the importance of serving their nation. At Army PaYS we want to thank Pennington County Sheriff's Office for being a partner and recognize their efforts in their community.

Army PaYS is awarding the Battalion of The Month to the U.S. Army Los Angeles Recruiting Battalion! Also known as the "Rough Riders"; the Los Angeles Recruiting Battalion covers all of Los Angeles and Ventura County and has over 250 Soldiers in 29 Recruiting Stations. The battalion works hard at telling the Army story to the local youth and also connecting with community members, civic leaders, business owners, entertainers and anyone that's willing to help the Army. As part of connecting with their local community, the Los Angeles Recruiting Battalion has a vibrant Centers Of Influence (COI) Program and are fully engaged with the Army PaYS program.

Imagine having a Medal of Honor recipient speak at your school, fortunately for some students that was possible. The 5th Brigade Oklahoma City Army Recruiting Battalion and Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) officially kicked-off the Medal of Honor Tour. Selected high schools in Oklahoma City, OK had the opportunity to listen to Medal of Honor recipient Master Sergeant (MSG) Matthew Williams.

MSG Matthew Williams enlisted into the U.S. Army under the 18X Special Forces enlistment program in September 2005. On October 30, 2019, he was presented the Medal of Honor from President Donald Trump for his heroic acts during 2008 Operation Commando Wrath in Afghanistan. April 6, 2008, then-SGT Williams served as a weapons sergeant. While he and his assault element were hiking up a mountain toward their objective, they were engaged by intense enemy fire. MSG Matthew Williams exemplified leadership while under fire, the ability to stay focused, and exposed himself to danger to save his commandos and other wounded Soldiers.

MSG Williams talked to students in a variety of high schools in Oklahoma City about his experiences and the opportunities that the U.S. Army has provided him. He continued to share the process of his transition moving from Basic Combat Training to the SpecialForces Qualification Course. He spoke on the qualities that it takes to become a successful Green Beret and stated it's "for those who are highly motivated, team player, humble to work hard, and willing to make sacrifices to get the job done". MSG Williamsexpressed how the U.S. Army provides a large array of career choices, education, and training to become successful. Last, he expressed with the students, "I encourage anyone to reach outside their comfort zone and try to excel at any career field".

During MSG Matthew Williams' time speaking at Putnam City West High School (Oklahoma City, OK), he had the opportunity to meet influential members of the local and military community. In attendance was Oklahoma Senator Jim M. Inhofe and Civilian Aides to the Secretary of the United States (CASA) Jill Castilla and Kevin Offel. While visiting U.S. Army Fort Sill, MSG Williams and his wife met with Governor Kevin Stitt, Fort Sill Leadership MG Wilson Schoffner and CSM John Foley, top recruiters from the Oklahoma City Recruiting Battalion, and other various dignitaries. The Medal of Honor tour is to highlight MSG Williams for his heroic actions and to educate young citizens on the opportunities and benefits that the U.S. Army can provide. At Army PaYS, we want to thank and congratulate MSG Matthew Williams on his service.

It's So Hard to Say Good-Bye! Story by: Damon Stinger

Cindy L. Jackson joined the PaYS team November 2014 and November 7, 2019 was her last day. Cindy has moved on, but she is leaving behind her own legacy as the executive admin.

In 2014, the PaYS team was relocated from Ft. Knox, Kentucky to Alexandria, Virginia. Cindy was one of the first new hires on the team assembled in Alexandria, Virginia. Cindy was hired as the Executive Administrator and she earned the title Most Valuable PaYS (MVP) team member by her peers and team members.

The PaYS team would like to recognize Cindy and some of her accomplishments and responsibilities during her tenure as our executive administrator. When the Alexandria (VA) team first started the total number of PaYS partners participating in the program was 458, today we have 874 PaYS partners. Cindy processed 416 companies over five years for the PaYSprogram. That's not including the number of PaYS signing ceremony packets she assembled. Cindy was very proficient in her role and she took her job seriously. Cindy wasn't much of a talker, but when she did speak it was with authority. You could always find her at her desk listening to her gospel music and processing packets. Additionally, Cindy processed all travel expense reports for the team ensuring everyone's travel was processed in a timely manner.

While on the PaYS team, Cindy completed her Master's degree and started working towards her Doctoral degree. To say that Cindy will be missed is an understatement. The entire PaYS team would like to wish Cindy L. Jackson all the best in her new assignment. Thank you for the impact and legacy you left behind!

Serving up ThanksgivingStory by: Crancena Ross & Gabby BonillaPhoto by: Crancena Ross

Thanksgiving is a day to give thanks for your friends, family, and blessings in your life. Unfortunately, a large number of families throughout the United States don't eat on Thanksgiving because of low food security or insufficient funds. The Sisters of Grace, Order Of The Eastern Star (OES) Chapter 5, located in Baltimore, MD, provide community service and charity to families in need in their community. As members of the OES Chapter 5, PaYS Marketer, Crancena Ross, along with her friend, Fannette Brown-Griffin, were able to make two families at the Meade Heights Elementary School Thanksgiving better this year.

After a Veterans Day program at the Meade Heights Elementary School, Fort Meade, MD, Crancena spoke with the school's Counselor, Julian Williams, about the upcoming Thanksgiving Holiday. Crancena and Fannette wanted to provide two students' families in need with a Thanksgiving basket, including all of the groceries needed for a classic Thanksgiving dinner. Julian Williams shared this information to Ms. Tiffany Foster, Principle of Meade Heights Elementary School. As the two OES members took time out of their busy schedule to shop for Thanksgiving Dinner, the school officials coordinated together to find two families that would benefit from a special Thanksgiving surprise. On Monday, November 25th, Crancena and Fannette met with the school officials and presented two large Thanksgiving baskets. These baskets were given to the selected families at the Meade Heights Elementary School.

Serving up Thanksgiving(continued)

Crancena Ross shares the importance of helping her community and says, "being a retired member of the military, and having the opportunity to be assigned many places, gave me a chance to see how blessed I am and not take what God has blessed me with for granted. If you can bless someone then do so. We sometimes take for granted what we can do for others and forget to realize there are people that wish they had food to eat or a place to sleep." Crancena, not only served her nation, but is serving her community in a variety of ways. Instead of throwing away her leftovers or unwanted clothes, she will give it to the first homeless person she sees. She also volunteers her time at Moveable Feasts.
