Our Vision

Our vision is one of a society which values us all.

Our Mission

We support and encourage adults with learning

disabilities to lead fulfilling lives.

Welcome

From Amanda Goulding The last few months have certainly been very busy at Pennine

Magpie. This newsletter offers the opportunity for us to share

with you some of the exciting things we have been up to and

have coming up, but of course this is only a glimpse!

We have recently had the pleasure of attending some fantastic

awards nights, such as the Community Spirit Awards where we

were shortlisted for Charity of the Year. We also attended the

Halifax Neighborhood Awards and returned with a posh new

trophy for our contribution to work and training! These awards

are all about celebrating the work done to improve the lives of

people within our community, which we take great pride in

doing at Pennine Magpie.

I would also like to take this opportunity to say a huge well done

to our members of staff, Dawn and Jorden, who have recently

completed their PTLLS Level 3 Award in Education and Training.

This is an amazing achievement which means they are now

fully-qualified to teach adults at a nationally accredited

standard.

With so much happening, the future is looking bright with lots to

look forward to! As I’m sure you’re aware, we aim to provide the

very best facilities for our students, and so we will be

introducing a new personal care bathroom which will allow us to

deliver personal care to the highest standards.

We are also excited to announce that we are currently working

on refreshing our brand. A lot has changed since Pennine

Magpie first opened its doors over 20 years ago and so it is

important that our brand evolves to reflect who we are and

what we do. We are only at the beginning of this process, but

we can’t wait to share our new look with you later in the year.

On your marks, get set, bake!

The Pennine Magpie Bake Off took place on

Friday, 28th February, where there were

over 20 different bakes made by students,

staff, parents and carers.

The bake off was held to raise money for

Community Foundation for Calderdale for

the flood appeal.

The sweet treats were then judged by a

panel made up of Amanda Goulding,

Pennine Magpie CEO, Andrew Hutchinson,

Pennine Magpie Trustee, Bernadette

Mazurke, Business Relationship Manager,

and a parent.

Steve Duncan, CEO of the Community

Foundation for Calderdale, said:

"Pennine Magpie do such incredible and

important work and the Foundation is

pleased that we can support their work, so

for them to be able to make time to help us

raise money for the floods is brilliant.

It's heart warming to see so many groups

fundraising and making a difference helping

us to raise £1 million to help flood victims."

Once the bakes were judged and winners

announced, all bakes were sold to raise a

fantastic £115 for the flood appeal.”

We were blown away by the amount of

cakes and how much talent was in the room.

We would like to say a huge thank you to

everyone involved in helping us raise some

serious ’dough’ to help those affected by the

floods.

Cook

Eat!

Grow

The Big Soup Share was a chance to celebrate the work we do in our garden by harvesting

our own crops, whizzing them up into a delicious soup and sharing it out with others.

We grew a variety of vegetables and enjoyed learning about where our food comes from.

We then visited Lee Mount Care Home to share our homemade soup. The Big Soup Share

was a great opportunity for students to engage with their local community, as well as

leaning lots of new gardening and cooking skills. Enjoying this delicious meal with one

another was a great way of bringing different generations in our community together.

After harvesting our crops, it was time to get cooking! As well as having fun making it,

we learnt lots of key cooking skills and experimented with what ingredients work well

together. We decided to make a mixed vegetable soup and a pumpkin soup.

A Spotlight on Sing and Sign

This new session has proved hugely popular! Some songs

they have learnt so far include, ‘Oliver - Food Glorious

Food’ and ‘The Greatest Showman - A Million Dreams.’

Sing and Sign currently takes place on Wednesday

mornings and is ran by Jen, who is on a student placement

with us. Songs are learnt using Makaton which supports

the development of essential communication skills. It also

offers the opportunity for team building, community

engagement and makes music more accessible to those

who can’t hear it.

.

Love is in the air

This Valentines day, we set up our very own

craft stall with gifts for sale to treat that special

someone. Everything was handmade by our

talented students and the money raised will

help expand on our arts and crafts facilities.

Our branding gets a makeover

We are excited to announce that we are currently

working on refreshing our brand. A lot has changed since

Pennine Magpie first opened its doors over 20 years ago and

so it is important that our brand evolves to reflect who we

are today and what we do. We can’t wait to share our new

look with you later in the year!

Magpie Mission takes off Mission accomplished! Well done to everyone who

passed our Magpie Mission. Their goal was to figure

out how to travel there and back from a destination,

learning key research skills and how to travel safely.

The next mission has now started and is all about

money and working with numbers.

Lord Lieutenant pays a visit

Thank you to everyone who joined us at our Open

Day and helped make it happen. We had a fantastic

day and met lots of great people, which included

Deputy Lord-Lieutenant, Virginia Lloyd, who loved

seeing our service in action and hearing about all the

great things we get up to at Pennine Magpie.

Christmas Jumper Day

On Friday, 13th December, it was time to bring out the most

eye-catching, festive jumpers we could find! We even jazzed

up ordinary sweaters by adding sequins and sparkle to

create a festive masterpiece. We also played lots of fun

games and sung our hearts out with some Christmas

karaoke. Christmas Jumper Day is always good fun but it's

even better when it is helping to change the lives of children.

We raised £43.85 for Save the Children, a charity which

helps transform the futures of children all over the world.

We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone involved

and supported this great cause.

Join our team of Trustees…
