Open House Celebration!by Pam Crank

Ominous cloud cover and intermit-tent raindrops didn’t dampen the

spirits of the board, staff, and friends that gathered for our ribbon cutting ceremony. Phil Scott, from Mayor Theaker’s office, spoke briefly before the ceremony. Representative Mark Romanchuk, Ontario Mayor Randy Hutchinson, members of the Chamber of Commerce, and a representative from Patrick Tiberi’s office were in attendance.

A letter honoring Richland Pregnancy Services was sent by Senator Keith Faber and Senator Larry Obhof.

An open house followed and many friends came to tour the new facility. The Boutique and Ultrasound rooms were favorite stopping points. If you were not able to make our open house and would like to tour our new facility, please call and we will schedule a time for you to come in.

Clients who come into the lobby of the new building tend to look around and then look up toward the balcony.

When they come through the door into the second waiting area, they again take a look around. I have heard many com-ments about the beauty of the new building and its welcoming atmo-sphere. Clients seem to feel honored to have use of the fine facility.

When we talk with clients about the Mom-to-Mom program, we enjoy taking them through the door to visit the onsite Boutique. Seeing the wonder-ful items available for their babies is an encouragement to them to enroll in the program.

Thanks to the generosity of the donors who contributed to the capital campaign, the nurses and clients have been enjoying the larger medical areas in the new building! We now have two medical rooms. That is an important improvement for when we have pregnancy test clients and ultrasound clients scheduled at the same time. The larger room is used for ultra-sounds. The clients say that they are very thankful to have a restroom attached to the ultrasound room. The second room is used as a lab room for pregnancy testing, STD testing, and paperwork, so nurses no longer have to juggle doing ultra-sound exams and pregnancy tests in the same room.

The nurses now have space for a file cabinet in which to keep their educational materials, rather than having to carry note-books to and from the center when they work. My office is across the hallway from the ultrasound room, so all the medi-cal areas are conveniently located on one side of the building.

For those who are interested in furthering the medical part of the ministry, we are planning to finalize ultrasound train-ing for the two nurses who began the process in 2013 at the time the other nurses did the recertification. There is a cost involved for the sonographer who does the training.

We also have a need for some more registered nurses to volunteer. If any nurses have questions about serving at RPS, please call me at 419-522-8863 ext.204.

A Welcoming Environment

“I felt a deep calling when this position was presented to me and I am so grateful the Lord has placed me in this ministry. I have already seen God at work in this place and I am excited to see what He has in store for us. The commitment of RPS as a group of believers to serving the Lord by serving our clients is visible in every moment of the day and that is a joy to be part of,” says our new Office Manager, Jessica (Jessi) Owens.

Having lived in Alaska for several years, Jessi returned to her hometown and continued her career with Edward Jones. Jessi and her husband Darrell have four children and they attend Hillside First Church of God. In her “spare” time Jessi enjoys baking and creating cakes along with sharing her talent of singing at area churches.

I have given directions to our new location 246.5 times in the past 14 weeks.

I have a script. “We are nearly on the corner of 4th Street and Home Road, where Nicholls Furniture is located.

Directly across Fourth from them is a small car lot. We are beside the car lot. We have a large white sign out front and Richland Pregnancy Services has their own building.”

OK, I made that statistic up, but here are some real facts:

•104 pregnancy tests have been performed at our new building.•This May, parenting classes had a near record number of parents in attendance with 30 moms and dads coming to the first class. We would have had to turn away some of these parents due to limitations of space in our previous training room. •A Post Abortion Bible Study has begun.•Clients have been able to utilize the bus stop, which stops hourly on the street in front of our building.

•We’ve had 7 walk-ins (compared to 2 during the same time frame in 2013).•The boutique has experienced a 47% increase in clients (as compared to 2013).•We have experienced an increase in street traffic. Some of them have resulted in appoint-ments; others were individuals that we were able to speak truth into their situation. •We will start a “Healthy Relationships” small group in June.

As awareness of our location and services increase, we expect a continued increase in clients. In order to utilize our new building to its full potential, we need more volunteers to serve as Client Advocates, Nurses, Boutique clerks, and Mentors to our Moms & Dads. Along with additional funding and donations to our boutique, that we may satisfy this growing need for our services.

Get involved. Be the one who provides help to one of the above numbers… a person in need of His “truth in love.”

Tammy Canfield is no stranger to RPS, having previously served as a volunteer Nurse Advocate in the center. Due to school obligations and her husband’s health concerns, Tammy had to take a sabbatical from her weekly commitment at RPS.

We’re happy that God has brought Tammy back to the ministry in her dual role as a board member and Nurse Practitioner. For over 30 years, Tammy has been a Registered Nurse with the majority of her nursing career being in Intensive care and patient/staff education. In 2013 Tammy completed her Master of Science Nursing Degree and currently is an acute care Nurse Practitioner with Dr. Exten’s Office.

Tammy and her husband Jim (who is currently doing well) worship at Calvary Baptist in Ashland and are the parents of two adult children Zack and Alex.
