ELEVENTH SUNDAY AFTER PENTECOST
Sunday, August 16, 2020 at 11:00am
Virtual Worship
Sermon Topic: “A Call to Justice”
Sermon Text: Isaiah 56:1, 6-8
This is what the Lord says: “Maintain justice
and do what is right, for my salvation is close at hand
and my righteousness will soon be revealed.
Isaiah 56:1 NIV
Throughout history man has sought to put forth his way of life that is too often devoid of active love,
justice, mercy and forgiveness for one another. Even in your personal relationships where would you be
today if you did not allow these aforementioned active ways of God to be present? Join us this Sunday,
as we receive a clarion call from God to be about the ministry business of justice. This will be
refreshing and renewing given the fatigue and weariness that can set in upon those who are seeking to be
faithful soldiers of justice in this land that for so long has fought to allow injustice to be the normal rule
and order of the day. May God help us to go forth lifting up the case and cause for justice!
Old Testament Reading: Isaiah 56:1, 6–8( God’s house of prayer is for all people.)
Epistle Reading: Romans 11:1–2a, 13–15, 28–32 (God will have mercy on both Jew and Gentile.)
Holy Gospel: Matthew 15:21–28 (Jesus heals the daughter of a beseeching woman.)
Greetings family and friends! Have you ever taken a moment to thank God for the truth of His Word?
We live in a world and society that bombards us with all kinds of philosophies, ideologies and manmade
truths. Often times we don’t discover the truth until we are personally engaged in God’s Word. Some
people have lived for years standing on the falsehoods of the world or society until their eyes were
finally opened to the truth of God’s Words. For example, the highest court of our land, the Supreme
Court, in the Dred Scott V. Sanford case of 1857 voted that former slaves and Black people could not be
American citizens. The case Plessy V. Ferguson of 1896 the Supreme Court upheld “separate but equal”
laws that led to Jim Crow laws of the south. But thanks be to God that His Word of truth says in
Genesis 1:27 – “So God created mankind in his own image, in the image of God he created them; male
and female he created them.” TRUTH – God created all human beings in His image, he did not create a
higher or lower class of people. Let this serve as a reminder that even in 2020 if you want to know the
truth, spend time with God in His Word as John 8:32 says; “Then you will know the truth, and the truth
will set you free.” Plan to join us this Wednesday, August 19th as we resume our mid-week study of the
truth at 6:00pm.

Pastoral Health Update
I lift up my eyes to the hills. From where does my help come?
My help comes from the Lord, who made heaven and earth.
Psalm 121:1-2 ESV
On Monday, August 3, 2020 during our COVID-19 Zoom leadership meeting I shared
some of the following to inform them as I now inform you regarding my current health
challenge.
Over a period of 20 years I have dealt with a blood disorder that until recent months did
not affect my day to day ability to function at a high level, go to the gym, and keep up
with all the demands placed before me. Even though the blood disorder over the years
did not allow my blood cells to reach proper maturity my medical labs now reveal that
things have deteriorated to a place that the blood disorder has evolved into “chronic
myelodysplastic leukemia.” As “chronic myelodysplastic leukemia” it often leaves me
feeling weak with very low energy.
UPDATE: My insurance company approved a oral medical therapy called IDHIFA.
Thanks be to God! This is still with the understanding that only a bone marrow
transplant with the help of God will heal this disease. My siblings and children are being
contacted to see if one of them are a match. If none of them are a match my name will
be placed on the National Bone Marrow Registry to find a match.
With the above this is what I ask each member to do:
• Pray for Loretta and I, my family (immediate and church) as we share this
journey together.
• Join me in the assurance and confidence of the Psalmist above who looked daily
to God knowing that he was their help through it all.
Thanks for your ongoing love and support – it means an awful lot especially now as we
cross this new bridge together, knowing that on the other side there is still great work,
service and loved to be shared.
PAX,
Pastor Wiggins

Mid-week Bible Study
Resume this Wednesday, August 19, 2020
ZOOM Bible Study 6:00pm to 7:00pm In this week’s lesson, “A Mercy-Full Message,” Jesus tells the famous
parable of the Good Samaritan, who risks his own life to help a Jewish
man whose peril was ignored by his own countrymen. In telling the
parable, Jesus answers the question “Who is my neighbor?” for His
followers as He challenges us to “go, and do likewise” (Luke 10:37).
As a family, you could discuss ideas to help those in need in your
community. This week’s Bible Study Lesson is attachment to this news
