Congratulations to everyone who has worked so very hard on preparing our

students for another amazing School Concert. With a range of acts

including The Magic Toy Box, Weather Windows, Grade 3-6 ensemble acts

and the Cast #1 performance of The Lion, The Witch & The Walk In Robe

both the matinee and the evening performance were outstanding.

On behalf of our whole community I wish to thank everyone who has

assisted in any way. See Page 3 for more.

As usual we will have many building and grounds projects being completed

during the holidays, including inspections and maintenance to ensure the

safety of students, staff and parents. If you are using the school grounds in

the next two weeks, please be aware of safety issues.

1:1 iPad Program – I have had queries from some parents in Grade 2 about

the 1:1 iPad program at Grade 3 next year. Our school’s eLearning Policy

developed in 2011 included the implementation through to Prep by 2018.

All documents are available on our school website.

I will be taking some Long Service Leave in October travelling to the US.

While in Seattle, I will be attending the New Pedagogies for Deep

Learning Lab with Professor Michael Fullan. This is an exciting

opportunity to hear first hand, leading edge practices from more than 1000

schools in 10 countries that are fostering deep learning in a digital world.

We are involved in this project. See more on Page 4.

Sandra McOrist is Acting Principal in my absence. This is a private trip and not funded by DET or Flemington PS in any way.

Wishing you all a relaxing and enjoyable Spring break.

All parents are reminded that school finishes at 1.30pm tomorrow

Friday 18th

September for the September school holidays. Please

make sure you collect your child on time.

Office News Office Hours, 8.30am – 4.00pm Monday to Friday

Uniform Price Increase

We have recently been notified by our Uniform Supplier that after many years of maintaining their prices, regrettably some items require a price adjustment due to the falling Australian dollar. The price rise will commence on Tuesday 1st September 2015 for the following items.

1. Polo shirt short sleeve now $26.00

2. Polo shirt long sleeve now $28.00

3. Rugby Knit Shorts now $22.00

4. Windcheater fleece now $32.00

5. Bomber Jacket now $43.00

Parents please note that we have had quite a few

children coming to the office requiring a change of

clothing. Unfortunately we have limited items in the

office and once we change the children we very

rarely have the items returned. Therefore we are

asking parents for donations of track pants and

leggings (mostly in small sizes).

Prep and Grade 1 students should also have a spare

change of clothing kept in their school bags, along

with a plastic bag.

OSHC Program Camp Australia manages the Before & After School Care

program. All bookings, absences and payments need to be

made through the Camp Australia website.

Do not leave messages on the school answering machine.

Assistant Principal’s Report Sandra McOrist

You may have noticed that we have had to have 3 trees removed as they were dead or dying and becoming dangerous. The first tree was cut down on Tuesday and the others will be felled next Monday. Throughout this process areas of the amphi will be out of bounds. Once this job has been completed we can then look at establishing a new garden area.

The holidays are upon us and as usual I want to remind families to use the school grounds and play equipment throughout this time. I would also like to remind everyone that if you do see or hear anything that is of a concern at the school feel free to contact the local police. Have a safe and restful break.

Concert Update Wow! What a fabulous 2015 concert yesterday.

Prep students were just so confident and sang so

well. Cast #1 of The Lion, the Witch & the Walk-

in Robe were well rehearsed and performed their

roles very well. All students displayed their talents

and poise and thoroughly enjoyed both the matinee

and evening shows.

Thanks to Phillip Smith for these early photos.

Thank you!!

Led by the Concert Team of Vern O’Hara, Lauren

Aull, Zoe Lewis, Chris Mizis, Gini Merange,

Kimberley Phair, Agata Puglia & Josh Velez,

teachers, students, aides and the admin staff have

done a magnificent job and are to be congratulated

and thanked profusely. Special thanks to all

teachers who gave up their time on Sundays for cast

rehearsals.

Without the support of a large number of parents

costumes would not have been as fabulous – special

thanks to Helen Drew, Jane Duncan, Mary

Koulbanis, Vicki Carr and Allison Bowyer, and all

others who assisted, purchased, sewed or supplied

items.

Thanks also to Karin, Ross & Davis Leopold for

sets; Craig for lighting, Alice Blake & Fiona

Hiscock for co-ordinating catering; Rose Iser for

sets and props; Lachy MacLaren for lighting, Peter

Hormann for filming; Abby Richardson for the

Concert DVDs, Phillip Smith for photography,

The HUB for catering and the BBQ and to all

parents who supplied the delicious soups, snacks,

cakes and goodies.

Curriculum News This week, Education Minister James Merlino

announced increased funding for schools as part of

the Education State Initiatives. Flemington PS was

granted equity funding of approx. $60,000 on top of

our usual funding lines.

New Pedagogies for Deep Learning Teachers at Flemington Primary have been working

to implement the New Pedagogies for Deep

Learning Framework over the last 12 months.

Led by David Meyer and supported by Sarah

Nightingale, Warwick Knight and James Thomas,

students have been learning in an innovative

Challenge Based Learning curriculum to address a

key education challenge:

How can we mobilise and foster new pedagogies

for deep learning in schools and leverage the

power of digital technologies?

Our school was selected as just one of 79 schools

in Victoria to participate in this International

research project based on the work of Professor

Michael Fullan of the University of Toronto.

1000 schools internationally are collaborating on

refining and implementing a digital rich inquiry

curriculum, better suited to the needs of our

children in the future. If you are interested in

learning more go to: http://npdl.global/ and www.education.vic.gov.au/school/teachers/support/Page

Digital News

Flemington has received a new router from DET

and Telstra technicians are managing the install and

implementation. This device will increase our

internet speed and the ability of teachers and

students to download and upload media faster and

without hiccups. This will be particularly

noticeable in the main building and the portables

where building materials hinder wireless transfer.

When we return in Term 4, the speeds should have

increased markedly.

Thanks Danh
