26TH Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 29, 2019

Greetings!

Last Wednesday, a group of parishioners and I kicked off our celebration of 40 Days for Life with a rosary proces-sion to an abortion clinic near our church on Arden Ave-nue. As we were walking and praying, I realized that it takes a great deal of courage nowadays to profess and de-fend publicly our Catholic morals and beliefs, especially the value of human life in all its stages. It’s not easy to do this in a society that puts a higher value on personal choice.

Some people would argue and fight with us as we defend the lives of unborn babies, but we must nor fear and be dis-couraged. We must remain steadfast in what we believe is morally right.

We must “walk the talk” and “walk the walk.” In other words, we cannot remain timid or shy about our belief in the sanctity of human life. Praying in front of an abortion clinic, for example, is a concrete way to walk the talk.

Of course, we can pray during Mass or in private for the end of abortion in our society. But I discovered one’s con-viction on the right to life of unborn babies grows deeper as one participates in pro-life projects and events.

I invite you then not only to pray for the end of abortion but also to learn and decry its evils. Going to a movie screening and discussion of the movie, “Unplanned,” in our parish auditorium on October 11 is one way to defend the sanctity of the life of the unborn bravely.

This Sunday’s Gospel on the Parable of the Rich Man and Lazarus reminds us not to ignore the poor in our society. The poor are not only the homeless people that we see by freeway exits or on city streets. The poor are the unborn children who cannot defend their lives. Your loving pastor,

Fr. Rodel “Odey” Balagtas

40 Days for Life Fall Campaign September 25 to November 3, 2019

40 Days for Life is a biblically based ministry commit-ted to ending abortion in our local communities and throughout the world through prayer and fasting, commu-nity outreach and peaceful prayer vigil in front of an abor-tion facility. Be a warrior for the unborn, their mothers and fathers and all who are hurt by abortion by coming to the sidewalk to pray during this campaign!

UPCOMING EVENTS

Every Friday evening at 6:00 PM, join our Deacons at the FPA, who will lead us in an hour of prayer and praise at 372 W Arden Ave.

On Sunday, October 6, at 2:30 PM the annual Life Chain held at Devonshire and Sepulveda Blvds. Stand together with other Christians in a prayerful, peaceful, legal protest.

On Friday, October 11, at 7:00 PM in the school audito-rium, we will have a movie screening and discussion of the movie, “Unplanned”. On Sunday, October 13, Midpoint Rally following the 12 noon Mass in the school auditorium. Speaker will be former Planned Parenthood manager Sue Thayer. Having been a Center Manager for nearly 18 years, Sue believed she was helping women. But that all changed when she was informed she would soon be trained to do webcam abortions at her small rural Iowa center. Sue led Storm Lake’s first ever 40 Days For Life campaign at the very clinic she supervised for so many years. Shortly after com-pleting the prayer vigil, Planned Parenthood closed its doors forever. Sue is now the director of outreach for 40 Days for Life. She shares her miraculous conversion with honesty, transparency, and humor. To RSVP and for more information, contact Valerie Remy-Milora at 323-821-6577 or [email protected]. To sign up to pray, contact Marysol Velasco at [email protected].
