SPECIALIST SUPPORT

WRAPAROUND PROVISION

We want every young person to succeed, knowing and feeling that they matter. We provide the very best care, guidance and support to ensure that they feel safe and can grow as successful learners and caring citizens. Positive relationships are very important to us at Rivington and Blackrod High School and we do all that we can to foster an environment in which they can grow and flourish.

Rivington and Blackrod High School has a unique provision called the ‘Inclusion HUB’. The purpose of the HUB is to offer all students, including those identified with special educational needs, a range of alternative and complimentary interventions. These interventions will support students who have an identified NEED and therefore require support to overcome a barrier to learning. All students entering the HUB can expect that we will:

• Conduct careful assessment which will support each student, monitor closely their progress and share and agree with them the desired outcomes.

• Plan personalised interventions which support multiple needs and raise attainment. • Provide specific and focused interventions which are supported with in-class specialist

support or outreach work through each key stage.• Work with outside agencies to provide any additional support that the student needs. • Apply for new Statements (EHC plans) as appropriate.

SPECIALIST SUPPORT

WRAPAROUND PROVISION

We have a dedicated and specialist team of teaching assistants who are based across the two school sites, who will know your child very well. If your child has a statement of special needs, they will have a key worker who, as well as providing in-class support, will advise teachers, create resources and offer mentoring so that your child’s needs are met by all of the adults who work alongside them.

We work closely with various specialist support services such as, Ladywood Outreach Service, speech and language therapists, behaviour for learning mentors, literacy specialist teachers, experienced counsellors and teenage health professionals, whom we can call upon to offer support for your child.

Alongside traditional in-class support, we offer a wraparound package to meet the changing needs of our students as they progress through the school.

Our Nurture provision provides a warm and caring environment where children develop their skills to talk, listen and care for one another.

In addition to the Inclusion HUB provision, the School is further supported by three SOLAR teams who provide bespoke learning to identified students. The teams will follow a specific and personalised timetable of activities each day following a full or part timetable. We have a high staff/student ratio, smaller classes and consistent, specialist staff working in a quiet nurturing learning environment which is multi-sensory and supported by keyworkers. We have a breakfast club, where young people can plan their day and set their own targets for the day ahead, and a lunchtime club where they can just relax, meet old and new friends and enjoy social time together. By creating a ‘Rivington family’, our students feel safe and supported.

The most successful children have a great team behind them, so we want to work in partnership with you. To do this we will stay in contact with you through the use of reports and parents’ evenings and we will let you know if we are providing extra support to help your child succeed.

We already know your child well, as we work closely with primary schools to make sure that they will have the best possible start - but you are the expert and we value your input.
