Three Countries. Two Languages. One Summit: this is the slogan of the international INCONTRI meeting for co-productions, organised by Business Location Südtirol − Alto Adige (BLS). It summarises in one phrase the idea upon which the initiative is based: A bilingual province situated at the transit point between northern and southern Europe, South Tyrol seems almost predestined to proactively support creative and financial cooperation across geographical and linguistic boundaries and to promote transnational cooperation within the film industry. BLS has bound itself to the task of promoting cooperation between the German-language and Italian-language film industries. The promotion of co-productions between these markets is thus a focal point for our film-funding programme as well.Experience from the programme’s first year of operations shows, however, that co-productions between the German-language and Italian-language film markets are, so far, anything but commonplace. It thus seems all the more important to bring together prominent film and TV producers, film backers, and broadcasting representatives from Italy, Austria and Germany again this year, especially after the success of INCONTRI’s premiere last year. In the end, continuity and mutual trust form the best foundation for successful cooperation. Through INCONTRI, we hope to do our part towards this end. Set within the framework of the Bolzano Film Fes-tival, this intimate event will offer you an opportunity to gather information about current production and financial conditions, exchange practical experiences, and develop new possibilities for cooperation. In addition, we offer case studies of cur-rent film and television co-productions, pitches of films and television programmes and one-to-one meetings—all in a relaxed atmosphere. As part of the pitch component, INCONTRI # 2 will also provide the setting for the unveiling of the best film ideas to emerge from our RACCONTI programme in support of screenwriters. More than 150 writers submitted film ideas for South Tyrol, hoping to participate in the RACCONTI event. We ultimately selected ten projects, and experienced film professionals are now guiding the writers through a six-month process of developing a treatment. Having the opportunity to pitch their projects to you, the producers and broadcasting representatives participating in INCONTRI, will certainly be the zenith of this process for the writers. If one of these projects does interest you, applying for pre-production support from BLS is a viable option: script development is eligible for funding too.

The best proof of the success of INCONTRI # 2 would be if one of the RACCONTI projects would be turned into an exciting film project or if, as a result, a co-produc-tion would be initiated in one way or another that BLS would be able to support financially in the development or in the production phase. With this in mind, we wish you an interesting, informative and productive stay in South Tyrol!

Ulrich StofnerDirector of BLS

Christiana WertzHead of BLS Film Fund & Commission

Welcome

1110

Just a little more than one year ago, South Tyrol celebrated its debut as a film loca-tion, launched its film funding programme, and held its first INCONTRI meeting—a resounding success. Much has changed since then: through the film fund and the activities of BLS, South Tyrol has raised its profile and increased its degree of at-tractiveness as a film location, all in a very short time period of time. Today, South Tyrol is beginning to truly establish itself as a film location.

To what extent is confirmed by our second meeting for co-productions, to which we are pleased to welcome many distinguished participants from the film industry once again. The name of the event underlines its purpose: the Italian word INCON-TRI translates to “encounters” or “meetings”. This meeting serves as a gather-ing point for producers, broadcast representatives, and film backers from three countries. It provides a relaxed atmosphere, away from the hustle and bustle of the Bolzano Film Festival, in which participants can digest the wide array of informa-tion being offered them and interact with each other without disruption.

This event is just one puzzle piece in a series of initiatives that we’ve put together over the course of the last year, in order take South Tyrol’s long film tradition to the next level in a professional way and to make the province even more attractive as a film location for you, as producers. In addition to the founding of South Tyrol’s film funding programme, other initiatives—including the RACCONTI programme in support of writers, in which screenwriters develop film material about South Tyrol under the supervision of experts, the PLACES location tour, designed to help par-ticipants become more familiar with the most interesting of our many nooks and crannies, and our MOV(I)E IT! training programme—should help meet the needs of film professionals in South Tyrol.

We hope that you will take this truly unique film location into consideration more and more as you plan future productions. With this in mind, we wish you a very inspiring stay in South Tyrol.

The project was born from the idea to transform the original comic written by Giancarlo Berardi and edited by the greatest italian comic editor, Sergio Bonelli, in a tv series. Julia is together a fascinating woman, a professional criminology teacher, and a precious partner to the Police department. She is nice (Berardi took inspiration from Audrey Hepburn to design her), she teaches at the University, and her particular sensitivity makes her able to identify with the mind of the criminal, so to understand and foresee his acts, and help the investigators to solve the cases. She has male collegues who are secretely in love with her; students who loves her love for the criminology, but she is definively single. Her sister, her female cat, Toni, and the black great motherly woman who takes care of her house are her family.

Echo Film GmbH was founded by the four associates karl Baumgartner, Philip Moravetz, Andreas Pichler&Georg Tschurtschenhalter in January 2012 in Bozen. It is their goal to become the leading film- and service production company in South Tyrol and to establish the company on the regional, national and international market within the next five years. Echo Film GmbH will develop and produce material from South Tyrol&operate as a Co-producer for international projects, too. The company is working with young directors but also with well established authors. Echo Film GmbH can thereby draw on the contacts&expertise of the four associates who have partly been working within the environment of the international film market for decades now. At the moment there are two in-house productions in development. In summer 2012 a first Co-production will be realised with Echo Film being a minority partner.Furthermore, Echo Film GmbH will offer a wide range of services for film projects in South Tyrol.

The enormous social, economic and cultural upheaval of the past several years and the virtual disap-pearance of manual labour have made the classical male image superfluous. At the same time, women are continuing to make inroads into male territory, stepping up the pressure on men both at work and at home.Today’s men have to be sensitive, understanding and loving partners, help raise children and run the household, yet should be successful, confident and sexy at the same time.In this creative documentary, two men embark upon a journey through the ultimate male terrain – the Alps – in search of answers to the question of what men should be like today.Along the way, they talk to other men about men, fathers and sons.

For quite some time we have been contemplating which film should be the first project for our newly-founded company Echo Film. We have selected “Of Men and Fathers” because several factors ensure that it will be a successful production.

First of all, the topic more or less directly affects us. Andreas Pichler & Martin Prinz are two well-respected authors who not only have first-hand knowledge of the topic, but also guarantee the kind of filmic realization, which can be financed and distributed internationally. In an age of shrinking televi-sion budgets for documentaries, this is hardly a given. The thematic connection to South Tyrol is also important to us. A considerable amount of the film will be shot there and will reveal a great deal about the reality of our life in the year 2012. It is also essential for us to realize this project as an international co-production to immediately position our company in the international marketplace.

In the gothic and decadent atmosphere of an elegant palazzo on the banks of Lake Como, Marina di Malombra becomes convinced that she is possessed by the spirit of her ancestor Cecilia. Marina, a young orphan, is entrusted to her Uncle, the Count Cesare d’Ormengo, and upon arriving at his house she asks for a room with a view of the lake. She is given the room that belonged to Cecilia, the first wife of her uncle’s father, who was kept prisoner there by him until her death. Upon finding a letter written by Cecilia hidden in the room, Marina begins to believe that not only has she reincarnated Cecilia’s soul, but that she must enact revenge for Cecilia’s tragic death and begins to nurse a growing hatred for her uncle. When Corrado Silla, a young writer, is invited to the palazzo, she believes his advances towards her are an effort to appropriate her inheritance, and she pushes him away coldly. But Corrado, en-thralled by Marina, doesn’t give up easily. A morbid and sentimental passion links him to the young tor-mented girl. When finally he discovers the full truth and tries to detach himself from her, Marina, whose fragile mind is now lost in the depths of her twisted insanity, pulls him inexorably towards a tragic end.

Asian Ex is a story about exploitation, the underworld, pedophilia, inequality and ambition.Wang is a young Vietnamese boy who’s trying to free yu, a young Vietnamese girl, from her Western pimps. Audrey is a fascinating French art dealer who is traveling Europe trying to meet a rich customer’s needs. Gunther Maas and Christian Berger are managers of a German multinational company which has just decided to cut costs of the security services of their chemical plant in India. Claudio is an Italian bus driver who ends up having a young German punk girl in his house. The punk girl carries something dangerous that she was supposed to deliver to an eccentric drug dealer, Ago. Wang’s behaviour will inadvertently influence all these people located in different parts of the planet. Each character will suddenly feel out of place, having to deal with unknown situations. For the first time in their life usual winners will find themselves playing a wrong hand, and usual losers will have the chance of their life. They all want their life to have a meaning. They want to count. They want their choices to make the difference. This time somebody is about to answer the destiny’s call with a desperate, heroic, unaware, but mean-ingful action.

Asian Ex is a very ambitious film involving countries in both Europe and Asia. Very different sets, cul-tures and habits: many contrasting characters which create rhythm and harmony. I read the script as if it were an adventure novel. Now, I’m convinced that this plot has all the potenti-alities to be a good film. At the same time it must be the choral expressions of different productions: a Germany, France, Italy, and Vietnam cooperation. Actually, this film is a natural co-production, each country can intervene from the executive point of view in realizing it and in financing it. They will spend their quota on the territory and the above the line and post-production costs will be divided based on the participation percentages. The active participation of the co-producers already at the development stage, will allow to make it an even more International film and it will lead to build a production architecture that could be suitable even at the script writing stage.

A child observes the adult world with his own clear and visionary voice. His father driving fast, singing jingles of Carousel, but since his wife became ill, he often stops the car and suddenly “makes the face of death.” The mother was a hippie, but since she lost her hair, she wears wigs that make her look like an astronaut. Left alone, now an adolescent, the protagonist sinks into alcohol and drugs until he sets fire to the house. He starts his downfall into the abyss, where drugs and uncontrollable sexual desire mod-eled the mechanism of expectation and consumption that fills our lives.

A film inspired by the novel of Aldo Nove – visionary and immaginative. It’s “Shame” meets “Catcher in the Rye”.

When you killed my father, running over him with your car, I was only nine years old. My life stopped on that road in the middle of the woods and the pain has since then changed into rage. Now I’m 19 years old and behind me I already have a career as an aggressive swimmer. My mother has a new perfect family, but I never wanted to be a part of it. She thought it was right to move on, for me that would have only meant to forget. I’d do anything just to get away from home, even to live 100km away, working in an artificial plants and flowers factory. When I show up at the job interview at your factory you immedi-ately recognize my name. From the day of the accident you have been struggling to keep anything un-expected away from your life. you have quit drinking and you no longer drive. Now when you have me in front of you, you can choose to not hire me. But you do. you decide to fill up my empty spaces as no one has ever done before. Thanks to you I start swimming again. Slowly I take my life back and it becomes enough to play mini-tennis in the parking lot of an autogrill to feel happiness. To keep us together is no longer only the past. Now that I’m in love with you though, you have to do the only thing that you can’t really avoid anymore: you have to tell me the truth.

Three car crashes. Three days. Three interwoven stories. The car mechanic karl and his strange friend Rizzo find a stack of money in an accident damaged car. driven by a guilty conscience, they soon find themselves responsible for a murder. yet all they want is to return the money.A car crash leads to dagmar’s hopeless plan of staging a robbery on the petrol station where she works. Her dumb friend Robert is to help her. But dagmar forgets to reckon with chance.Frank owns a betting shop and tends to solve problems with violence. When his wife cheats on him with his biggest rival, he thinks nothing of taking his gun and tracking them down. A wondrous accident makes him rethink his actions and he throws the gun away, not knowing that this would trigger another tragedy. In the end, there is a moment of hope, a view into the distance, and we are left with the feeling that it takes only a moment to change life for good and that sometimes it just may be better to close one’s eyes. “Blind” is a tragic-comic thriller about wrong decisions, chance and the search for happiness.

Synopsis Notes

Producer’s note

“Blind” is a tragic-comic episodic film located in the backcountry of Carinthia, a bilingual areaand the southernmost province of Austria. Ever since the collapse of the Austro-Hungarian Empire at the begin-ning of the 20th century, there has been a conflict between German and Slovenian speaking people, which has been fuelled and taken advantage of by politicians. “Blind” tells three stories about wrong decisions and the search for happiness with chance playing a major role in the form of car crashes. With a great love for his characters, Woschitz describes a microcosmwith local idiosyncrasies but in which human relations happen on a universal level, possible in any other European country. Nevertheless, it is this special location – the local language, landscape and people – which gives the film its special flavour. The characters in “Blind” are very human, sometime brutal, but always lovable andcover a range of different types, which broadens the opportunity for identification.

Our aim is to enable and produce the fi lms we long to see in the cinema. We visualize innovative, high-quality fi lms that are provoking and stimulating, fi lms that are edgy, challenging and moving. Films that refl ect and question the themes and patterns of our cultural back-grounds and look across our boundaries at the world outside – fi lms for an audience in the art-house-niche and beyond. We believe in the strength of david’s means against Goliath’s power. For this, we are prepared to go a long way, to leave the straight and narrow-minded and venture out into the realms of new ideas.

Pony, a young law student, wants to climb the social ladder. Her goals seem to be within reach when she meets powerful politician Harald Morzin, a man of the world who is not averse to casual romances. The determined 18-year old starts working as a nanny for Mozin and his wife, a successful lawyer, and a game of cat and mouse between the married politician and the girl ensues. Pony is immediately put under pressure by Harald’s possessive passion. And when Harald’s wife discovers the game being played behind her back, she plots to take revenge on Pony. But Pony manages to turn the tables on her. With unfailing instinct and cold determination, she uses the vanities and weaknesses of her new circle to her advantage and turns the social hierarchy on its head. Pony won the CARL MAyER AWARd for best screenplay in 2008.

Writer’s note Identity is a vague, mysterious, and controversial concept. What does it mean to have an identity? What determines the identity of a person? And, is there only one identity? These are the issues to which I try to answer, the ones that drive me to imagine this story. Sometimes a painful trauma plunges you into a sort of jam, in an absence of life that after a while takes the shape of an inescapable fate. Through this game of appearances, in which identities seem determined by law, Regina and Walter will discover, one through the fears of the other, yet with diff erent results, that it’s not really impossible to come back to life.

not a little girl anymore, nor yet a woman, forty-eight year old regina is known to everyone as Fräulein (Miss). What seems like a choice of lifestyle conceals instead an ancient pain. Provoked by the feminist gossip of her two best girl-friends, her status of spinster seems to waver with the arrival of a mysterious stranger. A fi lm about the power of change that upsets even the most indisput-able assurances.

Synopsis Regina is forty-eight years old and she’s just what you would call a Fräulein: with-out a husband or children, and with an apparently strong character, sometimes bit-ter and sarcastic, grumpy and hard-headed, she’ll do anything to hide her feminine side. Not only does she undertake the heaviest jobs of the restructuring of her hotel, a three-fl oor building on the shore of Lake Costalovara, on the plateau in Renon, Italy: she has also designated a chicken as her companion and pet, and the last time she paraded in front of the mirrors of a fashion boutique was several years ago, when – soon after her teenage years – she bought a bridal gown for a wedding that never took place. She has kept it inside her wardrobe ever since, shrouded in cellophane, behind the dark pile suits she normally wears, the symbol of failed happiness.

Gone wild from years of loneliness, what makes Regina most uneasy are: men un-der the age of ninety, the song “Fräulein”, a cover from the Sixties by Chris Howland that seems to speak to her alone, and the social events that need more than a plain pile suit.

To mend the feeling of void that oppresses her, she spends her spare time cooking exaggerated quantities of cakes that she’s eventually forced to dump, or listening to the sentimental misadventures of her two friends, a widow with a compulsive passion for department stores, and an ex-nurse having a nervous breakdown, weak and embittered, and at war with her unfaithful husband. Convinced of the superior-ity of the female gender, the two friends would certainly acknowledge Regina’s adherence to their principles, but one day – out of the blue – a mysterious tourist of about sixty years plunges into her life. Walter Bonelli, a childish and lost man, persuades her to put him up in the hotel closed for work. Whilst all around them rage misunderstandings and vicious gossip, Regina slowly starts to feel inside a kind of adolescent love that will overturn forever both her assurances and the ones of those who used to call her Fräulein.

Filmography“the riddle” – thriller feature starring Sir derek Jacobi and Vanessa Redgrave“Johnny Was” – action drama with Vinnie Jones, Patrick Bergin, Roger daltry“legend of the Bog” – chiller satire starring Nora Jane Noone, Vinnie Jones

Writer’s note I’m drawn to ötzi the Ice Man’s story for the same reason as millions of others world-wide: he provides a window to a forgotten time, so different and yet so similar to our own. He also stands as a metaphor for the battle which every human heart must face – the struggle not to freeze in the face of life. My background gives me some experience with the balance between war and peace. I grew up during the Belfast Troubles. As a journalist I covered conflicts in Africa and South America. yet wherever I travelled I found that human kindness and ingenuity can win out over suspicion and war. I love ‘fish out of water’ survival stories: 127 hours, dances with Wolves, Apocalypto, Planet of the Apes. Having written some books and movies, I think I could now make Ice Man something truly special.

When his wife vanishes while walking in the Alps, DAve refuses to give up his search, even when the journey leads back in time to the stone age of Ötzi the ice Man. in order to win her back he must learn not just to survive in a primitive world of warriors and wilderness, but also how to love again – a journey that makes him question whether it is he or Ötzi who is the real ‘ice Man’.

Synopsis dAVE, an American geologist is on a great second honeymoon in South Tyrol with German-born wife ANNA, in an attempt to patch up a fractured relationship. They visit ötzi the famous stone-age Ice Man in a museum and hike together in stunning scenery. But when Anna discovers dave is using their trip as cover for a survey for a future mine, she snaps. After a blazing row she storms off on a mountain path. He waits. And waits. Time passes and all searches fail to find her, dave is riddled with guilt. He loses his job to keep searching the mountains alone. Eventually he spots a half-buried body on a glacier. Trying to reach it, he falls and is knocked out. He wakens to find that the body is alive – öTzI, an injured man in crude clothing. dave helps him off the mountain, looking for help, but finds he is no longer in his own time, but in ötzi’s stone age. In ötzi’s village, dave is forced to fight for his life against a rival warrior while a masked shaman watches. dave wins by striking one of his few matches and is instantly considered a fire-wizard. The Shaman lifts her mask – it is Anna. Or it looks like Anna, but this stone age beauty has no recogni-tion of him, or their past or future together. She is VASHA, ötzi’s woman, perhaps an anciant ancestor of his future love. As dave tries to reach her, he learns all aspects of stone age survival: food, fighting, shelter, sex. His friendship with ötzi is strained by his desire for Vasha. When dave brings Vasha to a sacred cave to show her wall paintings he has made of them together in a different time and place, ötzi plots to get rid of his friend and rival. When their hunting party searches for copper ore in a cave, ötzi lets dave lead the way and he is cornered by a huge cave bear. But ötzi is a true warrior and can’t go through with his plan. Soon ötzi is fighting for his life with the animal and it is dave’s turn to hesitate. With ötzi gone he might regain his love. But he too has honour and they vanquish the cave bear together.Laden with copper ore, they return to their village to find it ravaged by enemies. Vasha has been kidnapped. The surviving warriors, hopelessly outnumbered, plan a rescue. They have one advantage – dave’s 5,000 years of future know-how. He ushers in the bronze age with revolutionary weapons and tactics. After a perilous journey through the mountains, they launch a spectacular surprise attack and rescue Vasha before retreating back over the mountains, pursued by their foes. In order to stop them from catching up, dave sacrifices himself so Vasha and ötzi survive, in the hope this will let him meet Anna again in the far future. In doing so, he finds a way back to his own time – back to the love he lost long before he met ötzi. Now he knows who the real Ice Man was – himself.

Writer’s note This coming-of-age story “Crossing the Green Line” is about friendship, loyalty and betrayal. It is about the elementary confl icts in the world that make a monumental diff erence when situations become a matter of life and death. The story is based on the key concept and narration pattern of the classical West-ern, set in the South Tyrol mountains at a time of great political transitions at the beginning of the 20th century. The young heroes of this story are sent on an adven-turous journey, leading them away from the innocence of childhood, to the sensa-tions and fears of adulthood. Smuggling is the motif of the story that fascinates me most. The relevance of the story for our times lies in this kind of crossing the line that youth risk in order to be taken seriously.

An italian teenager has to choose between saving her adopted father and betray-ing her only friends.

Synopsis Gsieser Valley, South Tyrol, 1928. This story begins in Santa Maddalena, a lit-tle village near the Italian-Austrian border, where the young Italian Magdalena Montebelli (15) is living with her adopted father Franz Gasser (45) since the tragic death of her parents eight years ago. From early childhood she shares close ties of friendship with two South-Tyrolian brothers, Toni (14) and Georg Thaler (17), sons of the farm laborer and “smuggler king” Johann Thaler (39).On the day the high offi cial Alberto Tozzi (45) from the fascist regime shows up, the orderliness and the calm of Santa Maddalena are shattered. With brutality and torture-like corrupt practices, he eff ectively diminishes the fl ourishing smuggling acitivities in the valley. Soon there’s only one single smuggler left who still provides the village with produce – Johann Thaler is the only one who won’t let Tozzi scare him. He continues to cross the border as a Schwärzer to Austria – until the day he does not return home…Together with Magdalena and Toni, Georg, Johann’s high-spirited eldest son takes over the dangerous smuggling business and the job of supplying the village. They are reckless but successful, and soon Georg tries putting together a larger group in order to keep up with the growing quantities they are requested to smuggle.Meanwhile Magdalena’s foster father gets arrested. Tozzi, who thinks he knows what the youths are up to, but cannot prove it, decides to try to bargain with Magdalena. He will free her beloved father if she turns over the boys. Abruptly Magdalena is confronted with a cruel decision: by saving one, she risks ruining the others’ life. The gravity of the situation has become clear to her while the young smugglers still are not aware of the danger they are in. That all changes one day while they are doing business in kalkstein, Austria, with karl Mair (56): When a fi ght breaks out in a tavern they see him drawing a knife, threatening another farmer. Georg is sure that this is his father’s knife...

But our six young smugglers accept the terms of the challenge. Under Georg’s lead they try to defy the rules and laws of the mountains, eager to add another legend to the stories about great smugglers: in order to take revenge on Mair, they steal 50 cattle and plan to drive them over the green border, to their home town of San-ta Maddalena. While Tozzi is already awaiting them at the border, Magdalena has to make a decision – will she warn her friends in time? How will they react to her betrayal? And will Tozzi fulfi ll his mission and bring the teen smugglers to justice?

Writer’s note South Tyrol in the 1960s. A confl ict that raised the question of the use of terrorism and torture respectively as political acts. A struggle, in which growing extremism of the insurgents and the clampdown by the state, lead into an uncontrollable spiral of violence. Themes and concerns which are more than ever relevant in today’s world aff airs. A story that explores the dark human aspects in such conditions, on both sides. Focusing on universally engaging dilemmas about identity and dissect-ing the natural unit of family, in the face of uncompromising political activism. Thus, creating a strong appeal for an international audience.Italian, Austrian, German and last but not least South Tyrolean history, makes the era part of my own history and heart.

troubled south tyrol in the 1960’s. An irenic family man ends up in prison for his terrorist brother, fearing for his wife and kids who are exposed to the growing repression by police. Being tortured and abandoned by politics, he collaborates with a troubled police offi cer, who secretly works as a provocateur for the secret service.

Synopsis zweitland (Second Hand Land) is a drama, set in South Tyrol during the terrorist attacks by the South Tyrolean Liberation Committee (BAS) in the 1960s.Anton Passler (27) is struggling for survival with his wife Anna (25) and two chil-dren on their remote watermill. Standing in for his little, black sheep, brother Paul (22), has become a natural instinct for Anton ever since their childhood. And so he does in the aftermath of the fi rst BAS bombings. Rejecting a violent struggle himself, Anton helps his brother and BAS member Paul to fl ee from police. But Anton consequently ends up in custody himself. Being the bastard son of a German Wehrmacht soldier, Italian policeman Alessandro’s (23) voluntary anti-terror service, against the German-speaking dinamitardi is more than a mission. It is his very own way of proving and declaring his own Italian identity.Anton’s and Alessandro’s paths cross the fi rst time in the interrogation room. The blonde policeman fails in the face of his fi rst torture-assignment in front of his dark haired colleagues. despite the horrible scenario, it is the moment when Anton and Alessandro gain each other’s respect. While Anna is desperately pulling the family through by herself, the maltreatment of the political inmates and the lack of any political reaction or support from outside shakes Anton’s political and ethical values and his sanity more and more. His brother’s sacrifi ce haunts Paul in his hid-ing places and Anna doesn’t off er him any reconciliation. He chooses violence as his reconciliation, joins a reckless guerrilla group in the mountains. Haunted by the breakdown in the interrogation room and shattered by the daily humiliation of his fellows, Alessandro is lured into becoming an agent and provocateur by the Italian secret service. In entering a growing spiral of sleepless nights of agitation missions, the growing contradiction to his daily policing job, becomes ever more apparent. Seeking relief Alessandro takes vulnerable police freshman Lorenzo under his wings. Paul’s violent campaign makes Anton’s family target for growing repression by the Italian authorities.Anton’s release means his collaboration with the Italian Secret Service. He and Alessandro enter a fatal interdependency, coping together with Anton’s horrid prison experience and Alessandro’s repressed identity confl ict on the one hand and mutual distrust on the other. Anna has to realise that Anton’s increasing self-isola-tion and passive-aggressive mood swings, make it impossible to restore a healthy family life. On the brink of collapse, Anton decides to conduct a terrorist attack. Lorenzo’s sudden suicide gives Alessandro a fi nal reality check and he tries to stop Anton. But Paul shoots and kills the probably closest friend, his brother ever had.
