The change we plan to bring about in the community:
Anti dowry campaign
• Bharti Foundation
– Bharti Foundation is the philanthropic arm of Bharti Group Companies.
– The Foundation aims to help underprivileged children and young people of our country realize their potential.
• Satya Bharti School Program
– The Satya Bharti School Program is the flagship program of Bharti Foundation.
– It aims to deliver free quality education to underprivileged children, with special focus on the girl child across rural India.
– The program goal is to establish 500 Primary and 50 Senior Schools reaching out to over 200,000 students
– The promise of this large scale program, through its operation, is to create a replicable, scalable and holistic model of quality education in rural India
– Present Operational Status:
• Number of Schools Operational: 256
• States of Operation: Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh & Tamil Nadu & West Bengal
• Number of Students Enrolled: Over 38,000
Introduction
• Geographical Location:– Khundroth is situated at a distance of 28
km from NH-8.
About the Community
- With a total population of 6241 In 651 no. of households.
About the Community
• Cultural Background:
– Majority of the population
belongs to Hindu community .They followed Hindu rituals and traditions.
- Dominant Caste in Village is Rajput.
- women dressing style is Ghagra & Odhni.
- Pant, Shirt/ Dhoti, kurta for males.
• People are dependending on farming, minings and services for their livelihood.
• There are many problems in the village but we felt that Dowry is one of the major social problem of village.
We ‘Felt’:
• Dowry is one of the evil practices in our country. It causes a great impact and social disturbances. Our students have decided to conduct rallies, campaign, nukad natak to aware the villagers.
We ‘Imagined’:
• Organised a meeting with community people to make them understand about the initiative of Satya Bharti School.
• Organised a rally on anti dowry and educate community people.
• Conducted Street play in different location of community on anti dowry.
• Prepare the Slogans & posters on anti dowry.
• Write an Anti Dowry Massage on walls & other public Places.
We ‘Did’:
• The community people recognized the effort of Satya Bharti School.
• The villagers told that “Satya Bahrti School is not only providing quality education to their children but they are also educating villagers on various Social issues”.
• Village Sarpanch appreciated the initiative of Satya Bahrti School and asked the villagers to be a part of this campaign and eliminate such social problems from their village.
• 150 community people took the oath and participated in signature campaign & will not take dowry.
Impact on Community:
• Understand the felt need of community and work on it.• The girl child feel proud to be a part of this campaign and
become change agents.• The teachers were confident to take such initiative in Rajput
Dominant Community. • It was great feeling for all girls, those are studying with Satya
Bharti School.
Impact on Us:
Experience of Community Members & Teachers:
• The teachers feel that they can make a difference in society by initiating such kind of campaign in the village and eliminate the dowry system from our society.
• The community people feel that they can work together for
such social evil and eliminate from their village.
• They got the confidence to raise their voice against Dowry.
• We will be in touch with community people and request to stop such practices in their village.
• To educate community people about the Anti Dowry Act.
