Introduction
Waste segregation means dividing waste into dry and wet. Dry waste includes wood and related products, metals and glass. Wet waste, typically refers to organic waste usually generated by eating establishments and are heavy in weight due to dampness. Waste can also be segregated on basis of biodegradable or non-biodegradable waste.
Landfills are an increasingly pressing problem. Less and less land is available to deposit refuse, but the volume of waste is growing all time. As a result, segregating waste is not just of environmental importance, but of economic concern, too.
Wet and dry garbage
1) What is wet and dry garbage?Ans : Biodegradable waste such as vegetables
fruits flowers, woods, and pencil shaving or other organic or kitchen waste known as wet garbage where as plastic, paper ,glass, metal, are classified as dry garbage.
2) Why is waste secretion necessary?Ans : If the waste is not separated properly, it all gets
mixed up in landfills. This can contaminate ground water and release methane gas, which is highly flammable.
Methane is also a green-house gas that ultimately leads to climate change and droughts. The impact of climate
change on the world is already there for everyone to see.
