independence
DESCRIPTION
On September 18 2014 the people of Scotland will answer the question, "Should Scotland be an independent country?"TRANSCRIPT
Democracy is pooled sovereignty.
Independence is the power to decidethe terms on which sovereignty is pooled.
Independence is thedefault status of nations.
It is the condition to which the peopleof every nation will always aspire.
Independence is normal.
It is the contrivance of inequitable devolutionwithin an asymmetric union which is anomalous.
Independence is not conditional.
It may not be constrained or qualified other thanwith the informed consent of the people.
Independence is aboutthe freedom to make choices.
It is not a about the purposes forwhich that freedom is exercised.
Independence is not isolation.
It is the capacity to freely negotiate the termson which a nation engages with the world.
Independence is achievable.
It will be achieved when people recognise thattheir aspirations will not otherwise be realised.
Independence is essential.
Only with independence will the people ofScotland be able to exercise the sovereigntythat is theirs by right.
