Independence – Resilience – Creativity – Excellence - Community
From the Principal, Paul Jude
Students have been putting the finishing touches to their artistic master-
pieces to be displayed at Thursday’s Arts Spectacular. The band is sound-
ing great and they are looking forward to performing for the school com-
munity. I’d like to acknowledge the efforts of the staff in pulling this
showcase together. In particular Darly Jones and Alison Mason who are
our Visual/Performing Arts teachers. They have both invested so much
into preparing for the evening and developing the artistic skills of the chil-
dren at Lenswood. Alison has also been busy preparing the 18 choir stu-
dents for their performance at the Festival Theatre this weekend. Well
done Alison. We wish the students all the very best for the show.
Our Parent/Carer survey is open until the end of the week. This can be
accessed online, via FlexiBuzz or via the hard copy that was sent out. All
feedback is anonymous. We hope you take the time to give us some con-
structive feedback, so we can plan accordingly for 2019.
As mentioned in newsletters this term, we have been discussing with the
children the attributes of an effective learner. Our current focus is effec-
tive learners cooperate with others, help others and share the air space.
This links well with one of my favourite books ‘The Seven Habits of Highly
Effective People’ by Stephen Covey. Covey’s 6th habit is Synergise. He
writes about combining the strengths of people through positive team-
work, so as to achieve goals that no one could have done alone.
Work will commence on Friday on replacing the old stone wall at the
front of the school. Work will continue through the holidays and hopeful-
ly be completed early term 4. This will cause considerable disruption to
the front entrances to the school and to school drop off/collection next
week and possibly week 1 next term. We encourage you to use the
Church driveway and for families to enter/exit the school via these stairs.
Please take extra care when driving through this narrow area and be
aware of pedestrians around you. We will keep you up to date via Flexi-
Buzz with any changes to these arrangements as the project progresses. I
thank you in advance for your patience and understanding through this
disruption.
If you would like to discuss any aspect of your child’s education, please email me at [email protected] or make an appointment through Julia for a Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday.
Kind Regard, Paul Jude

It is now a requirement for the Department for Education schools to have a general use adrenaline auto-injector (Epipen) so we can provide emergency medication to treat anaphylaxis. This is stored with our student medication in the staffroom. This is not a substitute for children who already have a prescribed Epipen. Students who have a health care plan still need to supply the school with an adrenaline autoin-jector (Epipen).
P&F News
Hi all
Well another term has flown by, not long now and another year will be over.
Unfortunately due to numbers we had to cancel our Table Tennis/Family Fun night but thankyou so much to those who replied and we apologise that we could not make this night go ahead. We will try to do something similar next year and hopefully find a time that suits everyone a bit better.
Once again we are holding a bbq at the Uraidla Show on Sunday, 4 November. Money raised this year
will go straight toward the upgrade of the school’s IT.
As we did last year, we will be allocating a time slot for each family to provide a volunteer to assist in run-ning the stall for the day. As you would be well aware, more hands make light work, and in this instance if we can get one volunteer from each school family to help out in some way then it wont all be left to a small hand full to run the entire weekend.
The Uraidla Show is our biggest fundraiser for the year and the huge benefit of this is that the money
raised is not coming from just the schools families like yourselves, but the greater community.
So, before the roster comes out early next term with your allocated time, we’d love to hear if you’d prefer an AM or PM shift. This way we can do our best to suit everyone. Please email Julia in the front office or alternatively message or call Lisa Golding on 0403 336 824 with you name, the name of the person volun-teering and their contact number before the last day of school holidays as we will be sending out the ros-ter in week 1 of term 4.
Thank you all so much for your support.

Our Arts Spectacular is here. Tomorrow night, Thursday, 20 Sept at
7pm. Tea & coffee will be provided by our P&F. Our school band
will be performing, art work will be on display, choir and ukulele
performances, as well as a silent auction and surprising finale.
Bring your coins as there will be a $1 raffle to be drawn on the
night. A programme will be going home with each family today.
Naplan
Arts Spectacular
Students in years 3, 5 and 7 will bring home their 2018 NAPLAN results today. NAPLAN data provides in-formation to families and schools in relation to a student’s literacy and numeracy skills, measured against National Standards. Our staff will spend considerable time and effort analysing our school data as a vehi-cle to measure the progress of our students as year specific cohorts and individually in the areas as-sessed. The data will provide valuable information to inform explicit teaching and learning opportunities for your child at our school.
Please don’t hesitate to contact your child’s teacher if you wish to discuss this report and any implications for your child’s learning.

Sporting Schools Grant
We have been fortunate again in receiving a Sporting Schools Grant of $1,700 for term 4. We will be putting this toward a day of Surf Ed/beach activities & bodyboarding! More information to come on this wonderful experience but we are aiming to organise the day at Horseshoe Bay toward the end of next term.
Happy Birthday for September & the School Holidays to:
HAPPY BIRTHDAY to – Amaya Hermel who turns 10 on
the 21st and Solomon Maxwell who will be 7 on the 30th
September. And to Reuben Lane who will be 10 on the 3rd October and
Ashton Coulter who becomes a teenager and turns 13 on the 7th Oct.
Wear your ‘Team Colours’
On Friday, 28 September, the last day of this term, we are having a ‘Team Colours’ day. Students
can come to school dressed in their favourite team colours or sporting uniform. For lunch we will be sell-
ing pies for $3, juice for $1 and honey crackles for 50c. Lunch orders went home early this week so
please check you child’s bag if you have not received your order form. Money is to be returned with the
order form please as you will not be invoiced for these orders. The order and money needs to be re-
turned by Tuesday, 25 September. On the day a gold coin donation will be collected for the
Cancer Council.

Upcoming Pupil Free Day
A reminder that Friday, 21 September is a Pupil Free Day. Our teaching staff will be continuing their Pro-fessional Development on Visible Learning. This program has been the stimulus behind our focus on effective learners and developing that common language across the school.
Our SSOs will be either accessing training, undertaking a library stocktake or making resources.
