BRICS GEOSPATIAL COLLABORATIOn WORKInG GROUP MEETInG (A CLOSED DOOR MEETInG OF EXPERTS)
Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa (BRICS) are the five of the most important emerging economies in the world today. With consist-ently high growth rate of GDP, there is extensive focus on development in these countries. BRICS countries have acknowledged and leveraged from use of Geospatial technologies for developmental work. These countries are applying Geospatial technologies for Infrastructure De-
velopment, g-Governance, Land Management, ensuring Food Security, bettering Health and Education services- to name a few.
Further, BRICS countries are also nurturing their own home-grown geospatial industries that are providing state-of-the-art products and services not only to their own government agen-cies and private sector users, but also spreading their reach abroad procuring orders from overseas markets.
Since the BRICS nations collaborate on a number of fronts supporting each other’s growth and development, collaboration and support within the geospatial domain is also natural and important. As India is the lead for geospatial technologies, the first BRICS Geospatial Working Group Meeting will commence for representatives of geospatial domain from the respective countries to explore collaboration models.

trimble has been focusing on innovative ways to ensure productivity and controlled accuracy of the data acquisition since its inception. Trimble has introduced technologies like fully automated high precision UAS for achieving upto 1 cm of accuracy using photogrammetry technique and instruments like V10 to derive 3D position using 260 degree image panorama for survey and engineering application. Trimble has combined various others sensors like tilt, accelerometer, magnetic compass, cameras etc with the survey instruments.
For over 35 years, Trimble has created unique positioning products that help customers grow their business. The portfolio includes over 1,000 patents and serves as the basis for the broadest positioning offerings in the industry. GAGAn, is an Indian initiative towards implementing Satellite based navigation system over the Indian region, as a part of Communication, navigation, Surveillance (CnS)/ Air traffic management (ATM) plan for civil aviation. GAGAn is a joint program between Airports Authority of India (AAI) and Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) with expansion capability to neighbouring FIRs.
GAGAn is the fourth Satellite Based Augmentation System (SBAS) in the world which has been certified for enroute operations (RnP 0.1) over Indian Flight Information Region (FIR) in 2013 and is expected to be certified for approach with vertical guidance (APV 1) service in March 2015 over Indian airports.
GAGAn is basically an overlay system, which takes the navigational aid from the core GPS (Global Positioning System) constellation and augments it through the GEO stationary satellite for providing better accuracy, integrity and continuity of service for its application in civil aviation.
Though primarily GAGAn has been developed for civil aviation, but can be utilized in several other areas like vehicle tracking, intelligent highway system, search and rescue, surveying, real time whether forecasting, land management through terrestrial mapping, marine, precision farming and several other research applications.

OGC WORKSHOP
From Home land Security to Smart Cities, Emergency Response to Digital India, Interoper-ability between different systems /enterprise is a key requirement. Lack of interoperability cripples the ability of an enterprise to seamlessly exchange data/ vital information, with other stakeholders, defeating the very objective of these vital programs.
The core mission of OGC, a not-for-profit , international voluntary consensus standards or-ganization , with more than 500 members worldwide , is to develop standards that enable in-teroperability and seamless integration of geospatial information, geoprocessing software, and geospatial services. These provide great benefits for both: Technology Consumers as well as the Developers/ Service Providers.
The Workshop will highlight how OGC is working with the Defence and Intelligence (D&I), Homeland Security and public safety communities around the world, to advance seam-less information sharing and safeguarding through a growing framework of open stand-ards-based architectures ensuring interoperability within and across these domains. The workshop will provide insight into the current work of the OGC in areas such as smart cities as well as areas such as climate change, which is one of many triggers to social and region-al conflicts. The workshop will touch on some of the actions that can be taken to promote open standards adoption though smart policy and well-stated acquisition language. Finally, the workshop will emphasize the benefits of Indian public and private sector involvement in OGC regional and international programs.
This will be a participative workshop, with the goal of broad information exchange among participants.
