Social Equity No discrimination of any kind was observed in any of the

schools (visited) Most of the children, cooks and helpers were from S.T.

community. This could be the reason that we did not observe any discrimination.

In all schools the children either sit or stood in queue to take meal and then children used to sit in a row in school verandha.

Then they recited a prayer and took the meal.

Status of Cooks It is an unique example that U.T. had appointed 1 cook, 1

helper and 1 waterman on daily wages in each school for MDM and most of them (94.44%) were S.T. females.

The norms laid down by the Govt of India were yet not being implemented by U.T.

But in all schools at present 3 persons were engaged for this purpose. All schools (100%) reported that they had adequate cooks and helper to meet their requirement.

Every school in U.T. of Dadra and Nagar Haveli had been given two LPG cylinder with connection and we think it is praiseworthy.

Community participation and awareness In 22 schools ( 56.41%) the VEC/PTA/MTA was supervised and

monitored the MDM. Roster was being maintained by the community members in 26

schools (66.67%). The overall participation or contribution made by Parents VECs to

improve the quality of the meal was found poor in all schools. Very few parents/ community members found to be aware about the

quantity of MDM per child at primary and upper primary level. They were also not fully aware about the entitlement of quantity

and type of nutrients in MDM per child. The source of awareness of parents and community members

regarding MDM was mostly children, teachers and news papers.
