In this revision, following major modifications have been made: . Newclass of pipes 'Deep Well Pipes' has been included, . Two new sizes 35 mm and 115 mm have been included, . Requirements for resistance to. external blows at OOC, thread dimensions, thread profile, sealing ring and opening area have been modified, . Vicat softening temperature value has been. aligned with IS 4985:2000 'Unplasticized PVC pipes for potable water supplies - Specification', and . Tolerances on effective and segmental lengths of pipes have been modified as per current manufacturing practices. Accordingly, draft STI DOC: STI/12818/3, June 2011 has been prepared and sent to all RO/BOs, CED & MSD for comments if any. Comments may be sent to CMD-III before 10 April 2011. If comments are not received by us before 10 April 2011, it will be treated as 'No comments' and the STI will be finalized accordingly. Indian Standard IS 12818: 1992 has been revised as IS 12818:2010incorporating all amendments. In this revision, following majormodifications have been made:

SCHEME OF TESTING AND INSPECTIONFOR CERTIFICATION OF

UN PLASTICIZED PVC SCREEN AND CASING PIPES FOR BORE / TUBE WELLACCORDING TO

IS 12818:2010

(Second revision)

1. LABORATORY- A laboratory shall be maintained which shall be suitablyequipped and staffed, where different tests given in the specification shallbe carried out in accordance with the methods given in the specification.

1.1 All testing apparatus' shall be periodically checked and calibrated andrecords of such checks/calibration shall be maintained.

2. TESTRECORDS- All records of tests and inspection shall be kept in suitableforms approved by the Bureau.

2.1 Copies of any records and other connected papers that may be requiredby the Bureau shall be made available at any time on request.

3. QUALITYCONTROL- It is recommended that as far as possible, StatisticalQuality Control (SQC) methods may be used for controlling the quality ofthe product during production as envisaged in this scheme [See IS 397(Part I) to IS397 (part 4)].

3.1 In addition, efforts should be made to gradually introduce a QualityManagement System as per IS/ISO 9001.

4. STANDARD MARK - The Standard mark, as given in Column (1) of theFirst Schedule of the licence, shall be applied indelibly by stencilling Iscreen printing / transfix labels / engraving provided always that the pipeconforms to all the requirements of the specification. In case the mark isapplied by engraving, it shall be applied in such a manner that it does notimpair the strength and dimensional requirements of the pipe in any way.

4.1 In case of any non-conformity, standard mark shall be completely removedusing suitable method (s),from the pipes.

4.2 MARKINGS- In addition, each pipe shall be clearly and indelibly markedin:

Red colour for RMS,PMSand CSpipes;Yellow colour for CM pipe, andGreen colour for CD pipes and RDS'pipes

with the following information:a) Indication of the source of manufacture;

REPLACEMENT- Whenever a complaintis receivedsoon after the goodswith Standard Marks have been purchased and used, and if there isadequate evidence that the goods have not been misused, defectivegoods or their components are replaced or repaired free of cost by thelicensee in case the complaint is proved to be genuine and the warrantyperiod (where applicable) has not expired. The final authority to judge the.conformity of the product to the Indian Standard shall be with the Bureau.The firm shall have complaint investigation system as per IS/ ISO 10002.

STOP MARKING- The marking of the product shall be stopped underintimation to the Bureau if, at any time, there is some difficulty inmaintaining the conformity of their product to the. specification, or thetesting equipment goes out of order. The marking may be resumed assoon as the defects are removed under intimation to the Bureau.

The marking of the product shall be stopped immediately if directed to doso by Bureau for any reason. The marking may then be resumed onlyafter permission by the Bureau. The information regarding resumption ofmarkings shall also be sent to the Bureau.

10. PRODUCTIONDATA - The licensee shall send to BISas per the enclosedProforma-I to be authenticated by a Chartered Accountant a statement ofquantity produced, marked and exported by him and the trade valuethereof at the end of each operative year of the license.
