The Ed W. Clark High School Marching Band from Las Vegas, Nevada

Bulletin No. 12 By PDG Gary Ochs and PCC Reed Fish

“A parade is not a parade without music”. Our band is from Las Vegas and will be in front of the Indiana Lions no. 73 playing “Back Home again in Indiana” and be shared and follow the Lions of Illinois no. 72 in the parade. Their awards have been judged superior ratings in all events they have marched in as well as having performed at Carnegie Hall on two occasions. Their school colors are Black & Gold, so the band uniforms are mainly black with gold across the front. The school itself is about 3 blocks west and 6 blocks north of the Luxor Hotel & Casino. Remember, to wear your Indiana parade shirts and/ or hats to be in the parade.

Due to the climate, the parade route is shorter than normal and LCI is taking extra steps for our attendee’s safety including providing cooling tents and more. The parade starts at 8:30 a.m. Saturday morning July 1, 2018 and will take place in the Old Las Vegas section of the city and shuttle service will be provided for attendees from our official hotels. See you there! “Here we come Las Vegas”

So, it’s your first time in Vegas? Perfect! We can help you plan a trip. Vegas is a place unlike any other city in the world. Where else can you go from Paris’ Eiffel Tower, to the canals of Venice, to downtown New York City in just a few blocks? With endless possibilities, knowing what to bring to Vegas isn’t always straightforward. But we’re here to help you prepare and be your checklist’s jump-start to think of the things you may not have thought of! Alright, let’s do this! Your trip starts on the plane. If you want to arrive feeling your best, prepare to hit the town. Here are a few travel ideas to get you started on the right foot. − Lip balm, earplugs, hand sanitizer, eye drops. The climate there (as well as on airplanes) is very dry, so be sure to keep your lips, hands and eyes moisturized. − Leave space in your carry-on and suitcase for souvenirs. Vegas is almost overwhelming with shopping opportunities, from small souvenir shops to high-end fashion retailers, so you’ll want some extra space. − Shoes for walking, shoes for show. We can’t emphasize this enough. Be prepared with the proper and appropriate footwear. Visitors can do a lot of walking around there, from strolling the Strip to hiking the surrounding areas, so you’ll need the right shoes. But then, there are nice restaurants and clubs where hiking gear won’t quite cut it. Pack smart and be prepared for both. − Bring a light sweater or blazer. You read that right. You might just need a warm cover while you’re there. Oh, sure, it’s plenty warm outside, but the casinos are not stingy with the A/C, so be prepared. − Sun hat. It should be no surprise that the weather there tends to be warm and sunny. A good (and cute!) sun hat could be your most underrated trip-saver. Whether walking the Strip, sitting by the pool or out for a hike, keeping the sun off your head is key to keeping your energy level up so you can keep on going!

ISBVI FUNDRAISERS – TRIKE RACE AND DISC GOLF TOURNAMENT

APRIL 22 EVENT RESCHEDULED TO

SEPTEMBER 16, 2018

Due to an unseasonably long spring, your ISBVI Trustees are rescheduling our annual fundraiser from this spring to mid-fall --- for better weather and to give you more time to practice!

We have received feedback from several prior participating schools that they would like to participate, but that a Fall date would better suit their current school schedules. Moving the event to the fall will also provide a more suitable date for students from the ISBVI to participate.

We have capacity for approximately 25 Trike teams and 25 Disc Golf teams so we hope your clubs will continue to promote these valuable events to support the mission of your State Project and the ISBVI’s statewide outreach services to our blind and visually impaired students in all your districts.

If your club has already sent in registration forms for the trike race/disc golf originally scheduled for April 22, we would invite you to carry your sponsorships and team registrations forward to the fall event date. We will be contacting you for confirmation of carry-forward to the fall event.

If you have any questions in the meantime, contact Chair Pat Short ([email protected]) or Event Coordinator Lion Pat Henninger ([email protected]).

Thank you for your continued support of the ISBVI Lions State Project.
