Indiana’s past and present are worth celebrating. Where we
live, work AND PLAY, in communities all around Indiana, Hoosiers are encouraged to highlight the best of Indiana for our 2016 Bicentennial celebration.
There are abundant opportunities for local and regional Bicentennial celebrations, projects and programs to reflect upon 200 years of progress with genuine Hoosier pride and ingenuity.
Bicentennial Nature Trust (BNT) a program to acquire land
for conservation and recreation to leave as a perpetual gift
to all Hoosiers as part of the Bicentennial Celebration in
2016.
This statewide effort honors a tradition of conservation
established 100 years ago with the creation of the Indiana
State Park system.

History of Parks
The Evolution of our Parks
In the late 19th century, large tracts of land on the outskirts of cities were purchased by city governments to create "pleasure grounds”…to relax in nature, a place of refuge.
In the early 1900’s U.S. cities began to
include neighborhood parks with swimming
pools, playgrounds and civic buildings in a
city’s design.
When we build let us... build forever… Let it not be for present delight nor for present alone
Let it be such work as our descendants will thank us for.
