The Indira Gandhi National Open University was established by an Act. of Parliament in
1985 to achieve the following objectives:

ABOUT REGIONAL CENTRE – MADURAI:
The university provides multi-channel, multi-media, teaching/learning packages for instruction and self-learning.

IGNOU, Regional Centre, Madurai upgraded to a full-fledged Regional Centre in the
Year 2008 and the operational jurisdiction of Madurai Regional Centre, covers 16 districts
in Southern and Western parts of the state of Tamil Nadu. It has 29 active learners support
centres, across the region.

ADMISSION
The University has introduced two cycles of admission (January & July) with effect from
July – 2008 for all programmes except for the B.Ed and B.Sc (Nursing) programmes.
The admission for the programmes other than Management and B.Ed remain open round
the year. In case of Management Programmes, B.Ed and B.Sc (Nursing) programme,
admission is made through the entrance examination.
For Management Programmes, entrance examination is conducted twice in a year (i.e)
once in February for July cycle admission and another in August for January cycle
admission.
In the Case of B.Ed and B.Sc (Nursing) admission is made only for January session based on
the entrance test conducted during the month of August.
For programmes other than Management, B.Sc (Nursing) and B.Ed covered under
common prospectus, the candidate may submit the application form through online by
visiting the IGNOU website: www.ignou.ac.in
FEE CONCESSION/EXEMPTION
The student taking admission for the Agriculture Diploma and Certificate programmes
except for PG Certificate, PG Diploma and Ph.D Programme shall be eligible for the
concession as per the following criteria:
·All the candidates from rural areas shall be entitled for 50% fee concession subject
to production of domicile certificate for selective Agricultural based programme.
·The urban student below the poverty line may be given a 50% fee concession
subject to production of an income certificate for selective Agricultural based
programmes.
ØThe Jail inmates are provided free education as a rehabilitation measure
ØFee Reimbursement to SC/ST learners subject to certain conditions.
ØNo Fee for Transgender in all the IGNOU programmes.
ØFree Education to the Handloom Weavers and their family in CLP and BPP programmes as part of the MOU with Ministry of Textiles, GOI.
