INDIVIDUAL ARTIST AWARDS WEBINARS AND TECHNICAL ASSISTANCE Webinars: The Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) and Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation (MAAF) will offer Application Assistance Webinars for prospective Individual Artist Award (IAA) applicants. Webinars provide an opportunity to attend training online, from your home or office. The Webinars will:

Provide training for individual artists in the utilization of eGrant

Provide information for artists regarding the submission of digital work samples for the IAA application

ANNOUNCEMENTS

All IAA applicants are required to use eGrant. eGrant is an electronic grant application that allows you to submit your application via the Internet. If you need assistance using eGrant, please consider attending one of the scheduled webinars (see page 5), referencing the available technical assistance resources (see page 5), or contacting Kimberly Steinle-Super at 410-539-6656 x101 or [email protected].

No exceptions will be made to the posted deadlines.

MAAF is unable to verify receipt of applications by telephone. eGrant provides an electronic notification of application submission.

Applicants should keep a copy of the application form and all materials sent with the application for their records. Do not send CDs, DVDs, or manuscripts.

Work completed while pursuing a high school diploma or an undergraduate or graduate degree in any MSAC IAA artistic category may not be submitted.

eGrant Artists must submit an application through Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation’s new eGrant system. Applicants can access eGrant via the Internet at:

http://MAAFIndividualArtistApplication.egrant.net All application work samples will now be accepted digitally through the eGrant system. Additionally, applicants must provide their digital consent to the terms and conditions of the program in order to submit an application for consideration. Completed eGrant applications must be successfully submitted no later than 4:30 PM on July 24, 2014. Technical support is available during regular MAAF office hours, 9:00 AM through 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday. Technical support will be available only until 4:30 PM on July 24, 2014. MAAF is not able to assist with the recording or editing of work sample content.

PLEASE NOTE:

The new application will be completed in its entirety online. No hard copies of the application or work samples should

be submitted to the Foundation or MSAC.

INDIVIDUAL ARTIST AWARDS Purpose: Maryland State Arts Council Individual Artist Awards are grants awarded to Maryland artists to encourage and sustain their pursuit of artistic excellence. Grant recipients are selected through an anonymous, competitive process. IAA awards are highly competitive. A limited number of awards of $1,000, $3,000, and $6,000 will be offered this year in:

Playwriting

Visual Arts: Crafts

Visual Arts: Photography MSAC Individual Artist Awards are aimed at benefiting all Maryland residents regardless of political or religious opinion or affiliation, marital status, race, color, creed, age, national origin, sex or sexual orientation, physical or mental disability, or geographic location within the state. Who May Apply: Individuals who are Maryland residents, 18 years of age or older may apply. Applicants must have established residence and be living in Maryland at least six months prior to the application deadline, and must be residents living in Maryland at the time the award is granted by MSAC. Proof of residency may be required. Applicant must be the artist whose work is represented in the work samples. Who May Not Apply:

Individuals enrolled in high school or any undergraduate classes or programs during FY 2015 (July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2015).

Individuals pursuing graduate instruction in any MSAC IAA artistic category during FY 2015 (July 1, 2014 – June 30, 2015).

Collaborating artists may not apply for their collaborative work.

Artists who received a $6,000 MSAC Individual Artist Award for FY 2013 or FY 2014. Submission Restrictions:

Work submitted for all required work samples must have been completed after July 24, 2011.

Previous MSAC Individual Artist Awards recipients may not resubmit winning work, including any portion or variation of winning work. If an Individual Artist Award recipient resubmits winning work or any portion or variation of winning work, the application will be considered ineligible.

Work completed while pursuing a high school diploma or an undergraduate or graduate degree in any MSAC IAA artistic category may not be submitted.

Competition Categories: Competition categories are rotated on a triennial basis. The FY 2015 competition categories are listed below. If your category is not listed please contact Kimberly Steinle-Super at MID ATLANTIC ARTS FOUNDATION regarding eligibility. World Music Solo Performance Judging Process: All work is judged anonymously by out-of-state jurors whose decisions are based solely on artistic merit, as demonstrated in the submitted work samples. Jury meetings will take place in the offices of the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation in Baltimore throughout the fall of 2014 and are open to the public. If you wish to observe a jury meeting, please contact Kimberly Steinle-Super at MID ATLANTIC ARTS FOUNDATION for specific meeting dates and times. Award Notification: Applicants will be notified of award decisions by mail in April, 2015. MSAC notifies all applicants, whether they receive an award or not. Award notification will only be made by mail; no award notifications will be made by telephone or email. Specifications of Work Samples to Submit with IAA Applications: Please review the following work sample specifications carefully when preparing your application. It is strongly recommended that you prepare and upload your work samples early in the application process. Traffic to the Mid Atlantic Arts Foundation eGrant site generally increases closer to application deadlines and lag time for uploads may cause upload errors. Please upload one file at a time, and remember that uploads may take several minutes depending on connection speed. A detailed Work Sample Preparation Guide is available on MAAF’s website at www.midatlanticarts.org. NON-CLASSICAL MUSIC: COMPOSITION Jazz, Folk, Bluegrass, Musical Theater, Pop, Blues, Gospel, Experimental and New Music

Three work samples no longer than five minutes each composed after July 24, 2011 must be submitted. Work samples must contain only the work of the applicant composer. Three separate works must be represented. Scores or lead sheets may also be submitted, but are not required. Each audio work sample must meet the following specifications:

10MB audio file size limit AND

Time limit not to exceed 5 minutes

.MP3 format ONLY

Include only one work sample per file

The file name MUST NOT include the applicant’s name (Optional) Each score or lead sheet upload must meet the following specifications:

.PDF format ONLY

All pages of the score for a single work must be submitted as ONE .PDF document

The file name MUST NOT include the applicant’s name To maintain the integrity of the anonymous review process, the applicant’s name should not appear in any credits on the recordings or in the file names, or the application will be disqualified. Experimental Music Composition only:

A technical statement must be submitted via the eGrant Application. The technical statement describes techniques and materials used in the creation of the submitted work samples. Do not include names, locations, artist statements or identifying information in the technical statement.

NON-CLASSICAL MUSIC: SOLO PERFORMANCE Jazz, Folk, Bluegrass, Musical Theater, Pop, Blues, Gospel, Experimental and New Music

Three work samples no longer than five minutes each performed/recorded after July 24, 2011 must be submitted. Three separate works must be represented. If another performer recorded on the submitted sample is playing the same instrument as the applicant, a solo performance by the applicant must be included in the submission. Each audio work sample must meet the following specifications:

PLAYWRITING Radio Play, Screenplay and Stage Play

One complete play (for radio, screen, or stage), formatted for 8 ½” x 11” pages in 12 point font (Times New Roman or Arial only), created after July 24, 2011 must be submitted as a .PDF document. Pages must be numbered. The title and type of work must appear on the first page of your work sample The manuscript upload must meet the following specifications:

.PDF format ONLY

All pages must be submitted as a single .PDF document

The file name MUST NOT include the applicant’s name To maintain the integrity of the anonymous review process, the applicant’s name should not appear anywhere in the manuscript or in the file name, or the application will be disqualified.

VISUAL ARTS: CRAFTS Functional and Non-Functional Crafts: Ceramics, Glass, Wood, Metal, Fiber, Textiles and Recycled

Materials

Eight digital images created after July 24, 2011 must be submitted using the following specifications:

Dimensions: 1240 pixels x 1240 pixels (maximum)

File Size: 2.0 MB maximum for each image

File Format: .JPG

Resolution: 72dpi The file name MUST NOT include the applicant’s name

At least four different works must be represented. These eight images may include up to four detail shots. Images must be uploaded to the online application in the Work Sample page within EGrant. The title, date of completion, dimensions, and materials of each work must be provided through the online EGrant Application. For more information about how to upload digital images using EGrant, please consult the online EGrant Application. If you need further assistance, please attend one of the MSAC IAA eGrant/Digital Image webinars listed on page 5 of these guidelines or contact Kimberly Steinle-Super at MID ATLANTIC ARTS FOUNDATION by email at [email protected] or by telephone at 410-539-6656 ext. 101. To maintain the integrity of the anonymous review process, no signatures or names may appear in the digital images or in the file names, or the application will be disqualified.

NOTE:

Images will be shown in the order they are uploaded, four at a time and will appear as you see them in the image preview on the application. Images are viewed on PC laptops and projected via high definition digital projectors.

VISUAL ARTS: PHOTOGRAPHY Traditional Photography and Works where photographic techniques are pivotal

Eight digital images created after July 24, 2011 must be submitted using the following specifications:
