JOSIP JURAJ STROSSMAYER UNIVERSITY IN OSIJEK

The University of Osijek (UNIOS) is a modern European higher education institution that acts as a regional center of knowledge, research and excellence. It consists of eleven Faculties, five University departments and one Academy of Arts. It has about 20.000 studentsand 1500 employees.

Studies are organized according to Bologna priciples and ECTS is fully implemented at all levels: undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate level. Covered fields are: natural sciences, technical sciences, biomedicine and medicine, biotechnical sciences, social sciences, humanities and arts. BRIEF HISTORY

o In 1396 the Dominican general institution of higher education,called UNIVERSITAS IADERTINA, has been founded in Zadar as thefirst institution of higher education in Croatia

o In 1955, on that basis, the Faculty of Humanities and SocialSciences in Zadar was founded, at first as a part of the Universityof Zagreb, and later as a part of the University of Split

o In July 2002 the Law of Instituting the University of Zadar hasbeen passed by Croatian National Parliament and thereestablished University of Zadar was registered on January 29,2003
