Background of the Study
The code switching phenomenon Indonesian-English does not only
occur in a conversation, but also in a song. There are many Indonesian
songs that use English words in the lyrics. The code switching
phenomenon in conversation is of course different from code switching
in the song lyric. In the song lyric, code switching is a deliberate style
used by the composers who have prepared and reflected on their lyrics
before they release their songs. The structural types of the English code
switching within Indonesian pop songs have different features and
functions behind it. The use of Indonesian-English code switching in
Indonesian pop song lyrics will be analyzed in order to get a view that
English may function as part of Indonesian pop songs.
