Dual Sensors
Inductive sensors for rotary actuators
2 Dual Sensors
• Conventional solution:• modular housings
• many components
• elaborate mechanics
• 2 sensors, separately wired
• interconnection may require ATEX approval
• complex adjustment of switch-points
• Solution with TURCK dual sensors:• compact housings
• simple construction
• clear position indication via LEDs and actuating element (puck)
• 2 sensors integrated in one housing for "open" and "closed" position
• optional valve connection via sensor
• various approvals (ATEX, FM, etc.)
• suited for SIL2 per IEC 61508
Inductive sensors for rotary actuators
3 Dual Sensors
• Developed in close cooperation with end-users and the work group for "actuators/positioning".
• Robust and impact-resistant.
• Independent of the size of the drive, it is always possible to use the same sensor and the same puck for all standard drives.
• Additional accessory kits for larger actuators complement the line.
• Application-optimised designs.

• Application-optimised designs:• The housing type DSU35 allows combining the various
electrical versions with customer optimised housing styles.
• Electrical designs: NAMUR, 3-wire PNP or NPN, 2-wire AC/DC or fieldbus-capable versions (AS-interface or even DeviceNet™).
• Connection types: cable, M12 and 7/8“ connectors, or terminal chamber.

• Application-optimised designs:• The housing style DSU35TC (terminal chamber) is the preferred
solution in many sectors, e.g. in the chemical and pharmaceutical industries.
• The terminal chamber permits connection of the magnetic valve via the sensor.
• The removable terminal block enables removing the entire armature, incl. the sensor, without having to disconnect the cable. The sensor cover including the terminal strip remains in the installation, when the complete armature has to be removed for servicing.
•TURCK is the only company to offer a dual sensor with AS-interface and terminal chamber!!

• Positioning of active face:• The sensor DSU35 differs from many competitor device in its arrangement
of the active face which is shifted by 90° in the housing. This design offers the following advantages:
• Optimum finger protection, because the sensor "embraces" the actuating element (puck). Even in the event of icing, it cannot wedge.
• Since the active faces cannot influence each other, we have been able to increase their height by and thus offer up to 10 mm tolerance with regard to the height differential between sensor and puck.
• Open and closed position indications are self-explanatory.because the LEDs are placed at the edge of the sensor.
• Sensors with an active face positioned far in front enable an extremely compact construction.
With opening:danger of bruising or icing
Sensor embraces puck:optimum physical protection.

• Long mounting holes for more tolerance:• To deal with tolerances of the entire mechanical construction (actuator shaft,
actuator surface, etc.) dual sensors of the DSU35 series have oval mounting holes.
• They allow adjustments up to 2 mm.
• Therefore an optimized positioning of the sensor and actuating element is guaranteed.

• Universal for valves acc. VDI/VDE 3845 (ISO 5211)
• For Valves with inner thread in their shaft
• Expensive customized constructions are no loner needed
• Stabile cosntruction with shaft extension
• Standard sizes F03 up to F12

• Universally applicable actuating elements ("pucks"):• All pucks have the same size. This simplifies purchase proceedings and
spare parts orders.
• The standard puck BTS-DSU35-EB1 (end position actuated/dampened) provides the same high chemical resistance as the sensor with PP plastic housing.
• This puck comes fully assembled. This saves valuable mounting time and reduces assembly errors.
• Also available from stock is the BTS-DSU35-EU2 (end position non-actuated/non-dampened). It comes in an Aluminium housing with a top-grade surface coating (hard anodized).
• The optical displays can be rotated by 90°, if the rotary actuator is mounted in such an angle, for instance, due to space limitations etc.

• Universally applicable actuating elements ("pucks"):• Adjustable versions
• rotation angle of the actuator is not 90°.
• adjustable „open“ position BTS-DSU35-EBE1
• plastic body out of PP.
•„closed“ position fixed on 0° acc. VDI/VDE
•. „open“ position free adjustable by 360°.
• ->135° actuators.
• optical indications can be rotated by 90°.
• BTS-DSU35-EBE1-2.
• both „open“ and „closed“ position fully free adjustable by 360°.
• butterfly valves with rubber seal
• clearly differentiate this version from our …EBE1 puck,
• the lower part of the housing is yellow.

• Universally applicable actuating elements ("pucks"):• clockwise and counter-clockwise rotating
(air failure open and air failure closed) actuators can be monitored by the same puck.

• IEC 61508 (SIL):• Dual sensors with NAMUR output are suited for use in
safety-related systems per IEC 61508 up to SIL2.
• The "digital" NAMUR devices, identifiable by the "RY1X" in their type code, are the exception
• This has been certified by an independent test body (TÜV). The test report of the TÜV is based on a practical performance test carried out in the test lab of the company Infraserv Höchst Technik in Frankfurt/Main (Germany).

• Connection to Profibus-PA or FF valve stations:• Connection of the sensor Ni4-DSU35TC-2Y1X2 with a BTS-DSU35-EB1 Puck to
Profibus-PA valve stations has been tested by an independent body and certified for systems with a scan time of 2 ms (e.g. P&F or Bürkert).
• This is also valid for Foundation Fieldbus stations since they work the same.

• Switching distance / detection angle:• As dual sensors are generally not actuated axially but radially, every
TURCK dual sensor is pre-set to a fixed detection angle ex works. As a result, optimum end position detection within the entire temperature range is ensured.
• Switching frequency:• The max. switching frequency of 50 Hz is absolutely sufficient
for monitoring rotary actuators of any size.
• LED colour:• The "OPEN" position is indicated via a yellow LED. The “CLOSED"
position is indicated via a red LED, as requested by many customers. We also offer a sensor with 2 yellow LEDs (Ni4-DSU35TC-2Y1X/S933).
