This quarter moved from the lives of profes-sionals leaving the mix effects of grieves, hopes &rejoicement on them. With the blessings of Holy Monthof Ramadhan and delights of Eid ul Fitar, we weredestined to bear the departure of our loved ones likeCh. Yaqub Ali, Ex-Chief Librarian, International IslamicUniversity, Mr.Abdul Hafeez Akhtar, Ex. D G, Department
Of Libraries, Mrs. Nusrat Nadeem , Assistant Librarian,Institute of Regional Studies, Islamabad and some other
closed ones. All these departed souls were very dear tous. We can never forget their struggles for the profession.May Allah the Almighty shower His eternal blessings onthese souls, forgive their sins, have mercy on them & restin Jannatul Firdous.
Most prominent activity of this quarter was, ofcourse, PLA Elections 2012. The horizons of librarianshipin Pakistan were covered with the clouds of hopelessnessand desperations because of delay in these elections.Inactive state of PLA was forcing people to raise ques-tions about the future of Pakistani librarianship. With theblessings of Allah the Almighty, we have gone throughthis uncertain phase, elected bodies of all provinces &head quarter of PLA are there now. They have takenoaths & are on the way towards their responsibilities &duties. We congratulate all the elected bodies & want to
remind them as well that expectations of professionalsare very high this time. There are diversified challenges& issues awaiting for them. These challenges & issuesmust be addressed and resolved on priority basis. Elect-ed teams are the trusty of professionals hopes. In thisway, they become responsible to fulfill their promiseswhich they made during election campaign. Otherwise,
they will surely be questioned about their responsibilitiesin both the worlds, i.e. here in this world by professionals& in the world hereafter by Allah the Almighty.
In this issue, we are including an interview of avery adorable & ever-smiling personality. She is famousamong her students because of her motherly nature.Surely, you have recognized her. Yes, we are talkingabout Madam Tanveer Jahan Khan. Our interviewermade an attempt to reveal her lifes such aspects you will
really want to know about. We hope you will like thisinterview. Madam Khan is suffering of blood pressureand sugar these days. We pray Almighty to bestow herwith sound health. We specially thank her for showing herwillingness for this interview.

I met Ch. Yaqub Ali in 1987.He was just returned fromKSA and joined BahauddinZakariya University, Multanas Deputy Librarian. Heapplied for post of ChiefLibrarian and due to sometechnical reason he wasappointed with promise ofpromotion in BS19 as Librari-an. At that time, I was study-ing in University of Sindh.During my first meeting, Ifound him a friend rather asenior or boss.
He always encouraged hissubordinates and colleagues.
His special ability was tostimulate and motivate allprofessionals. History ofautomation in B. Z.Universitywas also originated byhim. He first time introducedApple Macintosh computer in1993and developed a soft-ware with the help of vendor. He with his personal interestfed complete data of Centrallibrary, B. Z. University andlaid down foundation of auto-mation in this university. Hehad keen interest to developLibrary according to moderntrends and for this purpose,
he, with the collaboration ofAmerican Council, startedInformation Resource Centerunder his own supervisionand provided reading materi-al through electronic mode toUniversity teachers and re-searchers. At that time inter-net facilities were not availa-ble but he, in the city likeMultan developed thesefacilities for every reader whowas interested to get currentmaterial without hesitation.Ch. Yaqub had innovativemind and he tried his level
best to implement his posi-tive and innovative ideas. When he joined this universi-ty, Libraries system wasneither centralized nor de-centralized. Construction ofbuilding for central librarywas a dream. The librarywas working in only twosmall rooms. Just after hisjoining in university, his firsttarget was the constructionof Central Library Building.
He struggled day and nightand succeeded to convinceadministration for this pro-ject. We all professionalsonly used to discuss aboutcentral library structure buthe was the person who real-ized the idea into reality. Hewas in favor of decentralizedsystem due to financial con-straintsand intended to de-velop an ideal Centralizedsystem. But unfortunatelyuniversity has neither cen-tralized nor decentralizedsystem uptill now.He wassincere with both friends andprofession. He struggled
here in Multan for Personalscale of library professionalsworking in BS16. His ser-vices for profession re-mained in our mind.
He had religious mind buthaving tolerance with differ-ent sects and not a rigidperson.
He was not only literary butalso fond of tourism havingsense of sightseeing and weall professionals many timesorganized one day tours onthe different places. He used
to participate in activities likecooking and other witty andjokey discussions.
Prof. Dr. Kanwal Ameenwrote about him that he wasalways praise for everyonedoing some good work forthe profession. He was reli-gious in the true sense. Notonly he would look like that, but also he would act likethat----- honesty, humility, dedication, grace, socialservice, sincerity and muchmore. His character anddealings with people
was exemplary.
According to Dr. MuhammadRafiq This is a great loss ofPakistani librarianship. Hewas such a dynamic personthat inspired so many peoplewith his enthusiastic leader-ship. I met Ch. Sahib in Jan-uary 2007 when I joined IIUIas Manager InformationResource Center and myjourney as a young colleague
lasted till August 2008. Ifound him always open tonew ideas especially he wasmuch encouraging to youngpeople. He supported us alot during my stay at IIUI. Itwas his leadership and hardwork that IIUI Central Libraryshaped such a wonderfulicon of librarianship in Islam-abad. He was always aninspiring personality of theprofession and a great manof ethics.
Mr. Midrar Ullah gave com-ments that a significant partof LIS history is gone with
the passing of Ch. Yaqub Ali.He established the CentralLibrary of IIU Islamabad andhis services were exemplary. He also tried to establish LISSchool in IIU but due to hisretirement this mission couldnot be accomplished.
I was in close contact withhim from the last few yearsas a PLA member. Heplayed a leading role in therevival of PLA and to keep italive. He also played a verypositive and effective role incurrent PLA elections. He
was a great leader and orga-nized national and interna-tional conferences, beingPresident of PLA (FB).
My last meeting with him wasin a high tea, which wasorganized in the honor of Dr.Idris Haroon and Dr. Shafiq-ur-Rehman in Islamabd Hotelfew days before the holymonth of Ramazan. He waslooking very active and freshas usual and told me that hewas striving to start LISschool in a campus of Al-
Khair University and will offerM.Phil and PhD in LIS alongwith MLIS. It was a proof ofhis commitment to the LISprofession.
He is not dead; he is stillalive in our hearts. His life isa role model for us. We prayfor his maghfirat, May hissoul rest in peace in heaven.Amin summa Amin.
