Gymnastics WA are pleased to introduce the 2016 Go for 2&5 Conference at the State Gymnastics Centre from the 15th – 18th January. Throughout the conference we will be offering workshops on: Club development – aimed at club managers, administrators and committee members in the club General coaching development – relevant to all coaches. These workshops will focus on the generic aspects of coaching, conditioning and exercises to develop the gymnast holistically Inclusive clubs and coaching – different workshops for clubs and coaches to assist in incorporating inclusive practices in your club and being an inclusive coach Workshops are open to anyone who would like to participate. Spots are limited so book early to secure your spot.

Introducing

Guest Speaker Christina Matthews – Chief Executive Officer WACA

Christina was appointed Chief Executive Officer of the WACA in December 2011

after previously serving as General Manager of Commercial Operations and

Communication at Cricket New South Wales. She was also Acting Chief

Executive Officer of the Association for prolonged periods.

Prior to joining Cricket NSW, Christina was General Manager of Sydney Grade

Cricket Club, Balmain for three years and also worked for Women's Cricket

Australia, Women's Hockey Australia and the Victorian Football Association.

Christina kept wickets in 20 Tests and 47 one-day international matches for

Australia between 1984 and 1995, including two World Cups in 1988 and 1993,

and was the Southern Stars' Vice Captain from 1991 to 1993. She has also served in a number of off-

field roles for the Australian Women's team, including Manager, Assistant Coach, and Chairperson of

the CA Selection Panel.

Guest Presenter Farkas Pungur – Queensland HPC

Farkas Pungur is a High Performance coach and judge from Queensland, who

coaches WAG and ACR gymnasts. He was awarded Queensland’s ‘Best Coach of

the Year” in 2008 and 2012 and has coached National squad members who have

represented Australia from 2008-2014. Farkas holds a Master’s Degree in Physical

Education and a Bachelor Degree of Gymnastics coaching (from Hungary). In

addition to all these skills he is a personal trainer with a keen interest in strength

training and injury rehabilitation and has international entertainment experience,

performing in stunt roles in movies and television series.

Noel Forster – JLT

Noel Forster is the service contact for WA and has been at JLT since 2001. He is the State Account Manager for JLT Sport who prior to working at JLT worked for several insurance companies in underwriting and underwriting management roles.

Laura Koh – Volunteering WA

As the Project Manager for Volunteers in Sport, Laura Koh advises sport and recreation clubs throughout WA through training, one on one consultations, advice and planning. Laura has a diverse background in not for profit roles ranging from working with children and the elderly to support staff and senior executives. She draws on her

insights from her personal volunteer management experience coupled with her MBA and additional leadership training to provide specialised services to sport and recreation clubs throughout the state. Stu Williams – SportXChange

Stu Williams has twenty years’ experience in the design, development and implementation of marketing and communications strategies for sports governing bodies, teams and individual athletes at a local, national and international level. In that time he has worked with 25 WA State Sporting Associations including the team at Gymnastics WA where the focus has been on furthering the organisations commercial capacity and capabilities.

Frank Salhein – 3rd Level Consulting

Frank Sahlein has been involved with the children’s activity centre industry in the U.S.

since 1967 as an athlete, coach, business owner, consultant and business broker. Frank

has delivered over 1,000 presentations for a variety of children’s activity centre industries

and organisations. 3rd Level Consulting is currently a Business Development Partner for a

variety of associations and organisations around the globe – including gymnastics,

swimming, cheerleading, dance, martial arts, fitness and child care. Two-time recipient of the National

Business Leader Award from USA Gymnastics, Frank is the author of “Building Your Business

Potential” and creator of the Success Solutions Dashboards and other online applications.

Club Development Welcome Function – Guest Speaker and Industry Panel WACA CEO, Christina Matthews will be headlining the Welcome Function. She will be sharing her experiences in the sports industry in addition to insights into her vision of sport for the future. Our Industry Panel, consisting of 4 experienced personnel in addition to Christina will be sharing their own experiences and insights as well as giving the audience the opportunity to ask questions. Fitness Industry Award – Gymnastics Australia This session will discuss some of the Fitness Industry Award (FIA) requirements and the work that has been done to try and modify the FIA to better reflect the manner in which work is performed by employees in gymnastics clubs. Insurance – JLT The presentation will include an overview of how liability issues have changed in relation to gymnastics clubs over the last decade. There will also be an overview of the newly released risk management app (available on iPhone and Android) for clubs/associations and events. Sporting Schools – Maximise contact with your local schools & encourage transition from students to members. The Australian Sports Commission’s Sporting Schools program has been in action for 6 months. This workshop will provide an overview of how Gymnastics as a sport is tracking in the program and discuss any new developments. You will also explore strategies to assist in the transition of students from school program participants to members of your club. Inclusion in your club There is wide belief that gymnastics is for everybody regardless of their age, ability, background or personal attributes. This workshop will give you valuable information about developing an inclusive environment in your club that is friendly, safe, and free of harassment and discrimination.

Utilising Technology – SportXChange This workshop will provide an overview of current digital communications technology (websites, social media and mobile) trends and their implications for gymnastics clubs in WA. The presentation by the SportXChange Project will address;

Trampoline Basics - Routine construction and basic skill development (at Lords) Practical ways to teach basic trampoline skills and how to construct routines for your athletes. First Aid Course – Provide First Aid (HLTAID003) & Provide CPR (HLTAID001) HLTAID003 is a practical, full day course with an e-learning component completed online prior to the workshop. Based around a sporting environment, this First Aid course is designed to equip people with sound skills and knowledge to prevent and manage injuries. Includes Provide CPR (HLTAID001).

HLTAID001 is a practical, 2 hour workshop with a 1 hour e-learning component completed prior to the workshop. This course has been designed to equip individuals with basic skills to respond to a situation where emergency life support may be required. CPR is one of the least practiced but the most vital skill of a First Aider, therefore it is recommended that CPR is updated every 12 months. Both of these First Aid courses will be delivered by Sports Medicine Australia (SMA) and upon receipt of application and payment, contact will be made with participants about access to the e-learning component.

HLTAID001 (Provide CPR) will be conducted from 8.30am – 10.30am in conjunction with the HLTAID003 (Provide First Aid, full day course).

Refreshments

Morning tea will be provided at the Welcome Function on the Friday morning of the Conference at the East Perth Football Club. Lunch will also be provided on both of the Club Development days. Participants at all other workshops will have a short break between each workshop and a longer break for lunch on each day of the conference. Participants are required to supply their own food and drinks. Quantum Café operates from the Loftus Recreation Centre, opening at 8am.

Please note, no refunds on sessions will be given. Please nominate an additional workshop at the bottom of page 6 of the Coach Development Application Form in the case we are unable to accommodate your first preference.
