INFORMATION BROCHURE 2015-16

Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir’s camp owes its existence to the

inspiration & pioneering work of founder member, Hon’ble Late

Karmaveer Bhausaheb Hiray, a staunch freedom fighter, one of the

pioneers of forming of Maharashtra State and Co-operative movement in

Nashik District, an educationist, an Ex-revenue minister of the Bombay

Province. He has founded two well known organizations “Adivasi Seva

Samiti” in 1945 and “Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir” in 1952. The

objective of these institutes was to provide the education facilities to

masses from all the spheres urban, rural and tribal. He realized the

importance of education for upliftment of all these masses and started a

senior college at Malegaon in 1959. This gave a great boost to all the

students in the North Maharashtra to achieve higher educational goals.

His devotional motto is “BAHUJAN HITAYA BAHUJAN

SUKHAYA” Under the ceaseless Endeavours of his worthy successors,

late Shri. Vyankatraoji Hiray, Who made MGV a great temple of

learning with a string of educational Institutes . Under his efforts and

guidance, Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir started other colleges

imparting higher education in the faculties of Arts, Science, Commerce,

Law, Pharmacy, MBA and Education at different locations in Nashik

Disrict.

After his unfortunate and untimely demise Smt. Puspatai Hiray

devoted her services for the continuance of the work.

Along with the other faculties Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir has started

Agricultural school in the year 1955 with a view to upgrade the

condition of farmers in dry land as well as irrigated areas.

Today Mahatma Gandhi Vidyamandir trust is progressing under the

able leadership of General Secretary, Hon’ble Dr. Prashantdada Hiray,

Ex. Minister of State for Transport and Protocol. His main aim is to

enhance the quality of education in this era of Competitive globalization

through his dedicated efforts. Presently 84 educational units ranging

from traditional education to current disciplines such as Health Science,

computer management, Pharmacy, Hotel Management, Agriculture etc.

are managed by the trust.

In the light of the mission of the trust which is future nurtured and

supported by Hon’ble Dr. Apoorva Hiray and Hon’ble Shri. Advay

Hiray who never lost the sight of mission “BAHUJAN HITAYA

BAHUJAN SUKHAYA”.

Hon’ble Dr. Apoorva Hiray, MLC, is the Co-Ordinator of Mahatma

Gandhi Vidya mandir trust and is actively involved in enhancing the

quality education through his dedicated efforts.

environment through eco-friendly sustainable farming.

B.SC (HORTI.) DEGREE PROGRAMMES:-

B.Sc (Horti.) course are completed in eight semesters (4 years). The

courses include theory and practicals of various subjects in agriculture.

The course curriculum has 160 credits distributed in eight semesters.

The curriculum is required minimum 55 per cent marks for passing. The

different subjects included in B.Sc.(Agri) degree programme are

Agronomy, Agril. Botany, Soil Science and Agricultural Chemistry,

Horticulture, Animal Science and Dairy Science, Plant Pathology, Agril.

Entomology, Agril. Extension, Agril. Economics and Agril.

Engineering. However, for B.Sc (Horti.) A separate semester is allotted

for RAWE (Rural Agricultural Work Experience) and one for

experiential learning for both the degrees.

The Students academic activities involve delivering seminars,

submission of RAWE as well as Experiential Learning Programme

reports, participation in sports, NSS, cultural activities etc. The colleges

are creating facilities for the modules of experiential learning viz. Bio

fertilizer production, seed production, Nursery management, soil and

water clinic, milk and Milk product, Post Harvest Technology, which

will be helpful to the students to develop their entrepreneurial skill so

that they can become job provider.

PROSPECTS OF B.SC.( AGRI.)& B.SC

(HORTI.) :

In India more than 65% population is dependent on agriculture, the

scope for agriculture technology is tremendous, the degrees have wide

scope and employment opportunities. It aims to produce expertise and

skilled manpower in agricultural industries, NGOs, Government

Departments, Universities, Research organizations, Banks, Civil

services, etc. are some of the existing career prospects at national and

international levels. The challenges of food production, processing, rural

employment, Hi-Tech agriculture operations are some of the concerns in

agriculture.

JOB OPPORTUNITIES:

State and central Government, Agricultural Department.

Agricultural Universities in the state and the country

Krishi Vidnyan Kendra and NGOs.

Farm manager at seed Production center.

Bank, Zilla Parishad and industries related to seed, fertilizer,

pesticides production.

Civil Services in the state and the country

Soil and water testing & pesticides residue analysis laboratories.

Government Nurseries and seed farms.

Extension officers and farm supervisors

Food processing units

Self employment etc

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA :-

HSC / XII std. (Science) passed in 10+2 pattern from Maharashtra

Board of Higher secondary Education or equivalent examination stream

with English, Physics Biology and Mathematics.

Mathematics at XII std. is not compulsory and the student can fulfill this

deficiency during 1st semester after admission.

INTAKE AND FEES:-

The intake capacity of college for the first year is 60 and 40 for B.Sc

(Agri.) and B.Sc (Horti.) respectively. Out of the total seats 80 per cent

are filled up by MPKV, Rahuri and MCAER, Pune on merit basis. Rest

20% are filled through management quota. The annual fee charged is

Rs-45000/- per year (tuition fee) and other fees as per the norms of

MPKV, Rahuri. For details please refer MCAER website. The details

regarding the management seats are available with Principals of the

respective colleges.

ADMISSION :-

The aspiring candidates may visit the website viz. www.mcaer.org or

mahaagriadmission.in and download the prospects. Detailed information

such as eligibility criteria, legal and social reservations, admission quota

and admission schedule, admission process in various stages,

information of college with degree details is printed in prospectus.

Candidate may read the prospectus carefully.

HOSTEL FACILITIES:-

Hostel Facilities are available for all girls students. However, for boys

the hostel building is under construction.

TRANSPORT:-

Transportation facilities for practicals and study tours are available with

the colleges.

GYMKHANA/ SPORTS:-

Well established ground for different games is available in the campus.

However, the common gymkhana is available in Maharaja Sayajirao

Gaikwad College campus with all recent facilities.
