• Trend in multi-stage manufacturing is towards more complex, distributed and faster evolving manufacturing facilities

• Plants should be designed and managed using best practices from emerging key enabling technologies to cope with increasing competition and sustainability related issues

Specific Challenge:

• Manufacturing processes have to be environmentally friendly and safe and deliver high quality products adapted to customer requirements, whilst minimising costs

• Quality of products has become a key factor for success in manufacturing industry

• Increasing interest in sustainable production places a premium on reducing material waste, re-works, rejects and stock and has led to a demand for the development of zero-defect strategies at system level.

•From design to final work piece: Laser based additive industrial manufacturing of metallic materials

•all process chain steps may be addressed (e.g. CAD, modelling, additive process, different

materials in a single work piece, process control, QA, combination additive/subtractive, surface finish, etc)

• significantly improve the overall performance in terms of speed

and costs whilst producing high quality work pieces

• at least two important steps and the links between them

• laser based process

• metallic materials

• address standardisation as appropriate

• be driven by concrete business cases

• contain outline of business case and industrial exploitation strategy

• include relevant partners of the value chain in the proposal
