Richard Füßlberger, Vice President Greiner Extrusion GmbH (l.) and Oliver Beer, Managing Director Greiner Extrusion GmbH (r.)

Greiner Extrusion Group is the world's leading supplier of extrusion lines, tooling and complete systems for profile extrusion. The core competence lies in the processing expertise in profile extrusion which includes the development, design, manufacture and optimization of tooling and extrusion lines. The profile application field is very wide, from window and door profiles, technical profiles to the wide variety of building profiles. At the location in Nußbach, Austria, Greiner Extrusion GmbH specialized in the segment

Bundling of strengths

Dear Business Partners,

window profi les and Greiner Tech.Profi le GmbH in technical profiles. In May 2018, these two compa-nies merged and became the "new", larger Greiner Extrusion GmbH. As has been successfully practised since 2017, it serves both market segments, technical profile extrusion and window profile extrusion. Your contact persons are the same as before.

With this merger, Greiner Extrusion Group bundles its strengths and offers you greater advantages now with 2 pilot plants in Nußbach, 6 permanently available extrusion lines for different materials and profile dimensions, more flexibil ity in order processing, access to larger capacities and networked inno- vative power for the development of customized solutions. We look forward to serving you in the future.

"Industry 4.0" - the fourth industrial revolution - is on today’s focus and will also be an issue in profile extrusion. The extrusion process will largely handle itself, intelligent systems will monitor, control, opti-mize and communicate with themselves in real time.

The future is digital - Extrusion 4.0

Also in terms of digitization, our maxim is: "KEEPING YOU AHEAD IN EXTRUSION".

Gerhard Ohler, CEO Greiner Extrusion Group

Ultimately, however, Industry 4.0 must also deliver measurable added value. The requirement for this is and remains an equally broad and deep understanding of the origin and correct interpretation of process data along the entire process chain. From raw material to material handling, the extruder, the tooling technology, the downstream process including operating data up to the finished profile - your profit maker on the market.

At Greiner Extrusion Group, digitization is, therefore, not for the sake of digitization, but to provide you, our valued customers, with even better solutions for

Dear Business Partners,

your individual requirements based on our 40 years of experience and by using the most suitable digital technology available. Measurable in the form of higher quality profiles, increased productivity, lower production and profile costs for an even greater lead in extrusion. Because also in terms of digitization, our maxim is: "KEEPING YOU AHEAD IN EXTRUSION."

Enjoy reading our current issue of "THE PROFILERS"!

FLOW.MATIC controls profile sections fully automatic! With FLOW.MATIC - the further development of FLOW.CONTROL - the functional dimensions of profile sections can now be ensured automatically and permanently within seconds.

FLOW.MATIC is based on the proven FLOW.CONTROL technology. The temperature and thus the melt flow is controlled directly in the die by heating or cooling. FLOW.MATIC now measures the fi l l ing le-vel of the individual profile sections and together with the die function FLOW.CONTROL it builds up a fully automatic control loop. The reaction takes place visibly within a few seconds. This results in constant profile measurements even when process fluctuations occur and between quality control cycles - without any manual intervention. The settings can be reproduced at any time.

Your benefits: fully automatic control of the profile sections production close to the lowest profile weight tolerance minimized material input precise profile sections without manual action assured reproducibility

With Greiner systems, you can already control and regulate many parameters. With the PLC unit of RED.LINE, the energy saving system GESS.tronic or FLOW.CONTROL for example, all produc-tion data can be monitored, controlled and reproduced. FLOW.CONTROL also keeps product dimensions at the lowest tolerance limits, accelerates the start-up process and achie-ves significant material savings. sections can (as described above) be automatically controlled to the desired level despite different process fluctuations (material, preparation, extruder,...).

RED.LINE digitalThe RED.LINE of the Greiner Extrusion Group will in future be equipped with a digital interface to all line components such as the haul-off, tooling, extruder up to the customer's MES system (Manufacturing Execution System). Sensor data is used to extend the information systems to create a virtual image of the real process. Haul-off speed, lengths, contact pressure, temperatures, fillgrade, profile weight, external geo-metries, water pressure and flow rates, vacuums, motor loads etc. are then recorded digitally. They form the basis for auto-mated control loops, warnings or maintenance instructions.

Tailor-made automation and digitization With 6 pilot plants and 15 permanently available extrusion lines on 3 continents, as well as one of the largest research and development centers in the entire industry, joint digitization and automation projects can be realized individually, highly professi-onally, efficiently and worldwide.

With PROFILE.RAISER, Greiner Extrusion Group pre-sents a new system that automatically guides profiles to the correct pull-in position at the haul-off during start-up and simultaneously closes a safety gap in the profile extrusion.

The PROFILE.RAISER specifies the correct entry position of the profile and is designed in such a way that the profiles run into the haul-off at a correct angle all by themselves by means of a special locking system. As a result, the raising of the pro-files in the haul-off takes place automatically during the start-up process and without safety concerns for the personnel in-volved. Greiner Extrusion Group has applied for a patent for this development.

Your Benefits automatic positioning and raising of the profiles increase in work safety time-consuming, manual setting up of the profiles is not ne-cessary

Tooling for Internorm window system KF 310

Greiner and Internorm have been working closely together for more than 25 years. Supply and commissioning of more than 30 tooling in less than 10 months for the new, slim window system KF 310 from Internorm is the latest milestone of this partnership.

Window system KF 310 from Internorm

Living partnership from Internorm and Greiner

"The thriving partnership between Internorm and Greiner has now lasted for more than 25 years and distinguishes itself more and more with each new window

system. We sit with Greiner at one table and discuss individual details and toleran-ces on feasibility and production capability as early as the conception phase of the profiles. Even at this early stage, decisions are made about future challenges in the daily extrusion process. As soon as this first, important step has been completed, im-plementation begins. A complete plastic window system consists of over 30 tooling which must be available with all profiles on ONE launch date. With the KF 310, we managed this coordination and commissioning process in Sarleinsbach in less than 10 months thanks to Greiner's impact. We also implemented the KF 410 system and the KS 430 plastic lift-up sliding door safely within the periods we had planned. The cooperation with Greiner is exemplary. The longstanding employees know our pro-duction plant like the back of their hand and contribute their know-how in a targeted manner. Greiner is a reliable supplier and the systems are handed over highly profes-sionally and with handshake quality".

RED.CUT - 1 blade for profile widths up to 235 mm

The variable use, the quick and tool-free knife change, the chipless cutting and the high cutting quality convince the responsible employees at Internorm.

Saving energy with GESS.tronicInternorm uses the Greiner GESS.tronic energy saving system.

"Only with RED.CUT we can cut our profi les across al l widths - from the glazing bead to the lift and slide door frame

with a width exceeding 200 mm with one and the same blade - and in the highest quality. The blade has an outstanding service life com-pared to other cutting units available on the market. Even at the start of the extrusion process, the unshaped profile strands are already cut with it. It is hard to believe that the machine is now in operation for over 4,000 operating hours and we have carried out over 80,000 cuts in corresponding Internorm quality with the original blade (!)".

Florian Lang, Industrial Engineering Internorm Sarleinsbach

"Internorm gives its customers a 30-year (!) supply guarantee for all profile systems. To be able to safely produce with the tooling of the 80s

or 90s, GESS.tronic with an output of 210 m3/h air flow rate of the vacuum pumps plays an important role. With the new tooling system from Greiner, we, of course, only need a fraction in the extrusion process, but this performance capability is especially helpful for "setting up the profile" in the start-up process in order to produce a calibrated profile much faster, which increases our overall productivity. As soon as we have reached production mode, GESS.tronic continuously saves energy and the stable vacuum ensures consistently high profile quality. In this way, we have significantly reduced the energy requirements of the new calibration tables for the single-strand tooling for the main profiles to below 10 kW".

In the spring of 2018, the largest housing profile (300 x 250 mm) for CSR was finetuned.

CSR Limited is a leading building products company in Australia and New Zealand and, with "AFS Rediwall®", it offers a PVC heavy duty formwork system for concrete walls, for which Greiner Extrusion Group supplied the extrusion lines with in-line punching as well as the extrusion tooling. For the 300 x 250 mm profile, Greiner was able to supply the largest extrusion tooling for this applica-tion to date.

Window system with WPC for passive houses

The GS stratosTHERM system from GS Stemeseder is a new type of window system specially developed for passive houses in close cooperation with Greiner Extrusion Group.

An innovative combination of alu-minium, wood and WPC foam is used, which is characterized by high thermal insulation and high static load capacity.

Within the joint project, Greiner developed the tooling techno- logy for the extrusion of the in-ternal hol low chamber profi le made of WPC foam. The recycla-ble window system was presen-ted at the Fensterbau Frontale in Nuremberg.

Complete extrusion line for plastic railway sleepers

Greiner technology and process engineering know-how were also in demand for the development of a special extrusion line for plastic railway sleepers from the company Strail. Special challenges were the profile dimension 240 x 220 mm, the profile weight, as well as the even and precise calibration of the full profile. The extruded Strailway plastic sleepers are characterized by high durability and breakage resistance.

The equipment includes an extra high stainless steel tank system in solid con-struction, a special haul-off, as well as the chipless separating device RED.CUT. With RED.CUT, the profiles are cut pre-cisely and cleanly even in this size. Com-pared to a sawing technology, fall ing chips are avoided and resulting process disturbances during subsequent in-line profile punching are excluded.

Schüco and Greiner have a 30 years partnership

Since the 1980s, the Schüco business unit plastics and Greiner Extrusion have enjoyed a close business relationship and partnership, the success of which was reflected in the handover of the 1000th tooling to Schüco Polymer Technolgies KG. Over the course of three deca-des, both companies have successfully completed many projects together. In the recent past, for example, the extrusion equipment for the new twin-system Schüco LivIng and the steel-free window system from the product line Schüco LivIng with the patented aluminium compo-site design, which will be launched in September. Schüco was also a key development partner in the realization of Greiner's RED.SYSTEM. This innovative tooling and plant system contributes to the fact, that Schüco Polymer Technolgies KG in Weißenfels is still one of the most cut-ting-edge extrusion facility in Europe. The Schüco Group is a systems provider for windows, doors and facades - with 65 years of experience.

1000th tooling for SchücoThe ceremonial handover of the 1000th tooling to Schüco Polymer Technologies KG took place in May 2018. Another milestone in the long-standing partnership between Schüco and Greiner.
